Welcome To The NFL, Jimmy Smith

I was at the game.....and let me tell you......anywhere Cary "Frank Walker" Williams lined up Rivers was gunning the ball his way.......yes Jimmy has given up plays but he is a rookie and was hurt for the first half of the season........then when he was healthy enough to play we relegated him to special teams........with that being said the Ravens should draft another CB in this next years draft

This is exactly it, I dont care if we're in cov 0, cov 1, cov 3, 2 deep coverage or some crazy [profanity deleted] zone blitz. Jimmy should NEVER be in off coverage until he actually has an off season/mini camp/training camp to work on it. Pagano is misusing the poor kid and letting him getting mercilessly burned on national tv. Its like asking Ray to play OLB. I thought Pagano was especially poor in his original gameplan, and then in his inability to make any kind of an adjustment.

Pagano should have played more Cover 2 with a team like the Chargers where Rivers love to go deep. Throw the Cover 1's and 0's in there every now and then and just have Ed and Pollard playing the traditional Cover 2 safety spots. Give Rivers the underneath stuff and make him work down field then occasionally take the underneath stuff away from him. They did the opposite of that which is insane considering that Rivers loves to go deep, crazy. I understand having faith in your CB's but they are both like rookies so it's only so much faith you can have in them this early on in their careers.

Ya I really thought this was a game we were going to lay off on the blitzing and play more traditional 4 man fronts and hope Ngata and McPhee at least forced hurried throws. Turner isn't an idiot, I knew he was going to chip Suggs all day, I was surprised at the lack of stunting or twisting we did in the front 4 pass rush to be honest. I thought Pagano was thoroughly out schemed in this one by a VERY experienced and accomplished offensive coordinator. Like you said, we should have been playing alot more 2 deep coverages and then stunting the crap out of the front 4 in the nickel. Make Rivers methodically drive, which also in turn slows down the game for our offense and allows them to maintain the original game plan (which despite some people hating on Cam was very effective the first 2 drives resulting in scores).

Exactly, this game will be another learning tool for our team and we have a better understanding of what we got at CB. We got some good CB's with Jimmy having the potential to be great ( Webb really didn't play so I'm not evaluating him and it hurt not having him ) but for the time being versus certain teams, we need to babysit them a little with having our safeties playing the traditional Cover 2 from time to time. I didn't want this loss but I'm glad we got expose in this way so Pagano has a better idea of what he is working with rather than getting expose like this in the playoffs where you one and done. Really, the Chargers is the only one capable of doing this with the two 6"5 WR's with Gates working the middle. No other team posses players with those attributes.

Collinsworth was relaying what Norv told him before the game. Here's a good article on his analysis last night. Link

i didn't need Chris to tell me if the defense was running man or zone. motioning a WR is an easy tell. so is coming out in a bunch or tight formation. it is called...."How to Read Defenses...101.
