NO pass rush + no corner coverage + No press coverage + No running the ball to keep rivers off the field (rice was avg 5.7 a carry) + Same bad offensive coaching+ Joe still missing his recievers + recievers cant get seperation = Same old Ravens who get exposed.

Where are all the people who said he was our 2nd best CB now? He's not ready to start yet.

Don't tell me you find pleasure in gloating about Jimmy's struggles.

once again it was reported that there was miss communications.. I thought something was going on in the game, how many times did we play cover zero. You just dont do that against the chargers passing attack, it looked as though cary and jimmy had one play and then reed and pollard had another.

On the time Cary got beat and pushed the WR out of bounds, reed was about 10 yrds of scrimmage and cary wasnt back pedalling as if he knew he had to cover deep, it was as if he thought he had coverage over the top..

The time VJax nearly had the TD right at the start, Jimmy was playing as if he had safety help over the top and again it was cover zero.

Couple times on the sideline you seen reed and pollard going mad at the corners, now if you get beat by a better player you dont criticise your team mate, but if he makes a mistake (ie play underneath when he should be backpeddaling - as in the two examples) thats when you can shout at a teammate, tell him to waken up.

Im not too sure if Cary and Jimmy have the playbook down 100%, or if coverges were changed and they didnt get the memo, it could explain how they were beat sooooooo badly on some occasions. Others they were just flat out beat but some looked like a blown coverage, and mis communication, as was reported after this game, and on a couple of other times during the year. New D Coord, new playbook, new corners, new safety, no offseason, it could be showing some cracks..

again im just basing this on what i seen and heard reported after the game, some they got beat, others looked like blown coverages.

Or else pags was really dumb calling alot of cover zeros

Jimmy got schooled some last night no doubt. It wasn't just him though. Sorry to say it but Ed Reed wasn't giving those guys a lot of help in zone coverage. Our zone was just downright awful. We got lit up all night in zone. Did we give up some big plays in man to man? Yes. But zone we get beat every single time.

Cary was just as bad. They both bit HARD on anything resembling a double move. And we gave them shockingly little help over the top considering our best corner was out (although he did suit up right? Saw him in pads on the sideline but never saw him on the field).
Yeah those double moves absolutely killed them. Veteran moves over the young corners and it paid off.

"ADJUSTMENTS" thats what this game came down to, its just that simple. That Ravens did not make ANY adjustments and the Chargers did. It was brilliant how the Chargers had TE McMichaels chip blocking Suggs all night. It was brilliant how P. Rivers so single coverage and TRUSTED his receivers to make the PLAY. Flacco DOES NOT believe in his receivers can make the play, so he dumps it off to R. Rice every single play. Thats why Rice leads the league in yards from scrimmage and our WR/TE never have any stats to speak of. Im not knocking Rice, but Flacco has to thrown the ball up like he did in the St. Louis game. JUST THROW THE BALL FLACCO!

Unlike College, NFL QBs will throw at your direction.

Sadly...

Jimmy Smith got scorched by Vincent Jackson and Malcolm Floyd.
I am not trying to crucify him, but the team's 1st-round pick stunk.

Was Gorrer put out at anytime? He looked good last week, and Jimmy did not.
Inexplicably, Gorrer was Inactive last night... Jimmy has a lot of growing up to do. He wasn't physical with the SD Wide Receivers at all, and it cost him and us.

isn't both Cary Williams and Jimmy Smith at their best in press coverage. Yet we have them playing off coverage.

No one in the secondary played well last night.
And as many other people already stated; it seems very strange to not play a guy like Jimmy in press, especially when lining up against deep threats like V Jax and Floyd.
Combine that with a crap pass rush, its no wonder why the result was what it was.

Jimmy needs to be in press coverage more. That is his strength. When we have him playing 10 yards off allowing the WRs to get clean releases. Well the drafting of Jimmy is moot.
This is exactly it, I dont care if we're in cov 0, cov 1, cov 3, 2 deep coverage or some crazy [profanity deleted] zone blitz. Jimmy should NEVER be in off coverage until he actually has an off season/mini camp/training camp to work on it. Pagano is misusing the poor kid and letting him getting mercilessly burned on national tv. Its like asking Ray to play OLB. I thought Pagano was especially poor in his original gameplan, and then in his inability to make any kind of an adjustment.

Impossible that we went basically an entire game with getting the play calls wrong, especially with Lewis out there. 1 maybe 2 times and I would almost guarantee Ray would be verbally telling the corners what the coverages were himself in the defensive huddle.

thats why i said on SOME plays, and OTHERS they were just beat. Im just going of the report i heard after the game and the fact i dont think pags is stupid enough to go cover zero more often than not

he is a rookie last year Haden on cleveland got picked on by Boldin and Flacco for 3Tds and now he is playing like a pro bowler. so its growing pains thats the life of a NFL corner when you make one miss step its so much more costly than a lineback missing a tackle at the line.

I don't remember that. Q toasted Eric Wright but never had any noticeable success against Haden.

thought it was haden since boldin was our #1 then oh well either way rookie gets picked apart sometimes its growing pains just hope we dont run into a pass happy team again and dont get pressure on the QB it just wont be pretty.

Ed_Reed20 is correct, that was Eric Wright who got humiliated by Boldin in that game.
It was the type of performance by a defensive back that you don't soon forget

We need Webb back, bottom line. Jimmy is good for a few plays but he cannot start. I see him really developing into a shut down corner in the future but not yet. I saw him just getting beat all the time, and not even looking at the ball being thrown. He would just be forced to wait until the receiver caught it and tackle him. Webby > Cary > Jimmy

The whole secondary was awful, Jimmy included, but I remember seeing Cary get scorched plenty of times. Ed Reed's role was a total mystery to me.

The bottom line is that the secondary's struggles were really brought on by the lack of a successful pass rush. Rivers is an elite-caliber QB. If you give him all day, he will bury you again and again. He can hit deep, mid-range, short, you name it. You must--MUST--rush him. Teams have figured this one out, thrown the kitchen sink at him (Monday night in Arrowhead a few weeks ago), and he makes boneheaded mistakes. He could have read a book back there on some plays.

The Chargers were playing with a modified offensive line, so I'm going to put this solely on the Ravens D. Whether it was the schemes or the absolute inability of the players to do their job, that was the story of the ballgame.

I think it was Chris Collinsworth that said that Jimmy was looking to confident out there in the last couple of games. And he said the Chargers would try and pick on him all game. One of the few things hes said right.

Collinsworth was relaying what Norv told him before the game. Here's a good article on his analysis last night. Link

Not at all man, far from it. I know he's a rookie, and he's gotta learn and all that. But people bashed me when i said Cary should start over him.
