Welcome To The NFL, Jimmy Smith

Unlike College, NFL QBs will throw at your direction.

Sadly...

Jimmy Smith got scorched by Vincent Jackson and Malcolm Floyd.

Jimmy needs to be in press coverage more. That is his strength. When we have him playing 10 yards off allowing the WRs to get clean releases. Well the drafting of Jimmy is moot.

Agree 100000% percent, kept saying that during the game. That is supposed to be his specialty right? Why do we have him playing 10 Yds off the line?

We often seem to go against our player strengths. This is something that Harbs should have control over. So I lay the blame on him in this regard. Jimmy isn't going to be beneficial for us unless he can get physical at the line.

He'll be alright. Study the film, correct your mistakes, work on your technique.

Not sure I would say he is not ready but he definitely needs to learn from the film this week. They have a good group of WR's and did not let Jimmy get up and press in man coverage. All the analysts said he was one of the best bump and run CB's they had ever seen coming out of college and I did not see him up at the line once all night.

I don't understand why we rarely use press coverage. Rex didn't, Mattison didn't, and now Pagano isn't doing it.

We definitely have the players that are better at press than off, so it would make sense to do it more.

Remember...hes only a rookie
A rookie who had a shortened training camp because of the lockout and couldn't practice for 6 weeks because of an ankle sprain.

Every rookie DB gets lit up at some point.

Patrick Peterson has been downright terrible in coverage for most of the season, Prince Amukamara got benched today, and I'm not surprised Jimmy got worked tonight. He'll learn from this and get better.

proof that going after asomugha would have been a waste.....you gotta use those guys in press. LOOK AT PHILLY and that's not the same guy that was on the raiders.

Jimmy did get beat. But it Cary was beaten just as often. And I couldn't figure out why it was so much zero coverage. I thought Ed Reed would be 20 yds deep all game because every week chargers beat teams with deep passes. So I was shocked that Ed wasn't back their all game. Intact he was rarely back there. He was in man coverage often.

Why Harbs and not Pagano?

Rough game, but a young guy with the amount of talent he has will LEARN from this experience and ultimately be a better player.

I hear what everyone is saying about Smith, and I don't doubt that he will be a great player, but we needed this win..... BAD. Now watch Pittsburgh tomorrow night. The difference between us and them is that they win when they have to, we just laid a huge egg. If you think Baltimore is going to get lucky and Pittsburgh is going to lose, your living in a dream world.

He played bad, but truthfully this was not the right time for him to take on such a task. The lack of offseason and his injury really stunted his growth. Just a bad time for Webb to get hurt and Smith be thrown in for every down.

Sigh , Not Ready , And You Guys Tried To Argue Me DOWN On That Start Jimmy Smith Thread , I Knew He Wasnt Ready , Phillip Rivers Looked For 22 The Whole Game , Its Sad Because Most Of The Time It Went To The Reciever Who He Was Stickin , I Mean I Did Wanna See Him In Some Press A Little Bit More .

Now I know Jimmy was bad, but I think if he had as much experience as Cary did at this point, then he would be playing better than Cary. This was Jimmy's first true test, and it wasnt pretty, but I think Cary was equally as bad. If Jimmy had all the reps that Cary has had over the course of the season, Im sure he wouldve played a lot better than he did tonight, and a lot better than Cary did tonight.

Pollard was all in Jimmy's grill on the sidelines. he's a rookie that missed some games. he'll improve the more he plays BUT he got smoked royally last night.

Cary was just as bad. They both bit HARD on anything resembling a double move. And we gave them shockingly little help over the top considering our best corner was out (although he did suit up right? Saw him in pads on the sideline but never saw him on the field).

kind of hard to cover those giant receivers when you´re getting absolutely no pressure on the qb. rivers had all day to throw and we all know how good a qb he is. we got burned last night. it´s all good. i didn´t us expect to win against them at this time of the year.
gotta finish the season with two wins and everything will be good...
