Jared Gaither, Antwan Barnes Of The Chargers

48 posts in this topic

Give props to our former Ravens out there on the field tonight. Antwan Barnes handled our passing game with 3 (really 4) sacks and an assisted interception to go a long with some tackles for loss. Barnes was a guy I always liked but I guess he had problems with Harbaugh.

Also, Gaither held his own and the guys on 105.7 must be eating crow (pun intended) about how he would be beat as a drum.

Shame it didn't work out for these 2 in Baltimore. Barnes would of been an awesome force across from Suggs on this team and a finally healthy Gaither would of been an upgrade of Bryant. He is a huge young specimen at LT, we just couldn't get him to care I guess.

Not hurt over losing Barnes, he's a situational guy at best, and if you took notice two of his sacks came when he had been blocked and Flacco couldnt get rid of the ball. Gaither lost his head for a couple months and that was unfortunate, he was always the best overall lineman we had in 09, even at his young age.

Jared Gaither is considered by Rivers as the best waiver wire pick-up ever.

We all knew what Gaither can do when healthy. He's built like a prototypical Franchise LT. It's sad to know that our team gave up on him.

Yup... Norv Turner said they would not be the team they are now (the turn around they have made) without Gaither

They did. Sometimes you eat the bar. Sometimes and well, it eats you.

Gaither was pretty dominant. Barnes is a great pass rusher we could've used.

Wonder how different our season would of been if we had a healthy, motivated Jared Gaither...

They both played great. I wanted Barnes over Gooden, is Godden even in the NFL? Gaither was getting help all night, that's a fact but it worked flawlessly.

A. Gooden is a 9er.
B. He did get help but I saw him get a pancake on Ray by himself lol

Yep, have to say this, when the Chargers get Marcus McNeil back and they slide Gaither to Right Tackle, their offensive line is going to be solid.

I don't know what San Deigo did tonight but that was how you beat the Baltimore Ravens like a drum. That was the blueprint.

Some of you act like u are surprised. Gaither was a monster that we didn't wanna pay, so we blamed it on his work ethic. So quick question- How does his work ethic look now?

Yep and our offensive line is keeping Joe upright, correct? WRONG! We had book end tackles for the next decade in Gaither & Oher, but not only do we let Gaither go, but we tried moving Oher to LT and Gaither to RT to screw everything up! They were banking on Oher becoming our Left Tackle of the future so we wouldn't have to pay Gaither but they really screwed up when they wanted Oher at Left Tackle.

Michael Oher said it himself, he thinks the offensive line was better when he was at RT and Gaither was playing Left Tackle. I guarantee San Diego's offensive line is going to be one of the best with Marcus McNeil and Gaither at Left & Right Tackle.

Didn't want to pay? The dude was bumming out all of 2010 and I adamantly defended him the whole time. But, as the year wore on and his mysterious "back injury" never came to light, it became apparent just didn't want to play.

Berad we got the guy out of the supplemental draft, after he proved his worth to the team they wanted to move him to Right tackle.

I have no idea what kind of contract he had, but i know it couldn't have been much.

Yeah, it was stupid to move him to RT - I was against that - but the guy just gave up. He was probably making peanuts for us but now he's making peanuts for the Chargers, not much has changed.

And he still won't make the playoffs, by most accounts.

It was just beautiful watching Gaither and Barnes come back and bite us in the [profanity deleted] like that. I just could not stop laughing at how absurdly ironic it all was.

Bravo. If there was ever a head office that needed to eat some crow, it's this one.

Most fans knew it was a retarded decision to let both these guys go. Leave it to the geniuses in our front office / coaching staff to make those decisions. Seems like they know what they're doing.

We all knew that Jared, when motivated, could be a beast. Yesterday he just happened to be motivated to handle his prior team. That was the only time all season he did anything for anyone. It won't last and we made the right decision to let him go. We need stability at the LT position and he would not/could not provide that.

Antawan was just a casuality of the numbers game. We had too many LBs and gave him an opportunity to succeed elsewhere. Teams can't keep everyone they bring to camp.

I agree with the Gaither part, not the Barnes part. Barnes was almost always more of an impact then Gooden, and more explosive then McClain. He was ousted because of his immaturity as a person..... Or so we here. It was a bad choice, I can live with it.... But lookie here, we cut Gooden a season later. LOLZ. That's the funny part

I don't know. I remember these boards lighting up when we lost Barnes. And everyone wanting us to re-sign Gaither. For myself, I knew these guys could play but I also knew that we couldn't keep Gaither on the field and he was doing us no good. As for Barnes, if I remember correctly, we had to cut him for one week and told him we'd then be bringing him back but he couldn't wait. I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure that was him.

Our linebackers sucked when Barnes was here, he was the only one to get to the QB in his final year. And Gaither has been lights out the past 3 games for the Chargers, it wasn't just one game or because he played the Ravens.

It's ok to call out the coaches when they screw up, we don't have to defend them at all times.

Well the long term prognosis is still pending. He's played what now for the Chargers, 3 games? He knows he has to play now after being bounced around like a $5 dollar...... Let's see if he can keep it up over the long term.

But your right it isn't a surprise. We all know he is talented. But he couldn't stay on the field.

When Barnes was let go I understood the confusion from fans. But Gaither? Really? One good game and you're talking like you don't remember all of the headaches. We couldn't rely on the guy, that was the problem. He was either injured or not playing as hard as he could or thinking about when he was going to get his big contract. You think he's gonna be a bookend tackle for years to come for the Chargers? No, he's a good pick up for this year just like McKinnie was good for us (at least McKinnie has stayed healthy and played the whole season, Gaither JUST got back). If the Chargers do decide to give Gaither a big payday, they'll see what the complaints were about.

Yeah we gave up on him. I'm sure him sitting out for a season because of "back spasms" had nothing to do with it. I still say Torrey Smith is the best Terp we've had.

This caught my eyes; paying the guy big and lets see how he will reciprocate to the Chargers.....
