Merged: Clinching Playoff Spot This Weekend?

33 posts in this topic

For all intents and purposes , we're locked in right now. The odds are over 1000 to 1 against us not making the playoffs :

The only thing that could keep us out of the playoffs is an Act of Tebow.

I say we win out, just to be safe

Yup, when we beat the Chargers we're into the Playoffs. After that, the only thing left to decide is the seed. If we win out, we're #1 seed period. We don't need any help.

That being said, I am not opposed to a little breathing room in the division and in the seeding so I am a-ok with the 49ers beating the Steelers and Carolina beating the Texans (Caaaamm .. woooooaaahhh Cammmmmm). :) I'd say I'd also like Denver to beat the Pats, but then I don't know if I could put up with the fact that they'd just use Tebow's photo as the background on every sports show for the week after.

I feel uneasy just reading this thread....
Remember , we're just talking about MAKING the playoffs here , not about getting the #1 seed. We're in , outside of a disaster of miraculous proportions. And if that happened , one of the requirements would be that we lose all three of our remaining games. I don't know about you , but if we lost all three games , I wouldn't care about the playoffs because we would have already proven that we weren't worthy and that we wouldn't have gotten very far anyway.

The four AFC teams that are 10-3 ( Ravens , Hou , Pitt, and NE ) will all be in the playoffs. I will guarantee that, and if I'm wrong , I agree to change my handle to "I am a freaking idiot" and will replace my picture with an actual one of myself , wearing a dunce cap.

The other two AFC playoff teams will almost certainly come from this group : Den , NYJ ,Oak ,Cinn ,Tenn.
Denver will most likely be one of them , and the Jets the other , but this is by no means certain yet.

KC and SD have a very slim chance , but since it's not zero , they should be mentioned. One of them could luck out and make it in. I will guarantee that both of them do not , however , and suffer the same fate as outlined above if I'm wrong.

The other five teams - Mia ,Buff , Jac ,Cle , Indy - are toast , and even their most delusional , die-hard fans now realize this.

I don't care so much abut the playoffs as home field.
We are an Amazing homefield team.

If we have any delusions of the Superbowl, I feel our best chances are making it come through Baltimore the entire stretch.

So win out! ;)

They say we play up for big opponents. With the way the Chargers are playing, I hope this is true. This game will tell us a lot. When we beat them, I am planning a Festivus party until at least 3am.

Delusions? That term would apply to Cincinnati or Denver or even Houston. I think aspirations fits our team better.

Id say right now Denver has the edge to win the West and the Jets have the inside track to the last wildcard spot and the 6 seed. However, keep in mind that both Cincy and Tennessee have an easier schedule the next 2 weeks compared to the Jets seeing that Cincy has the Rams and Cardinals and the Titans have the Colts and the Jags, while the Jets play in Philly on Sunday and then the Giants the following week. So there is definitely a possibility looking at those 3 teams schedules there that all 3 of them could be 9-6 going into the final week of the season on New Years Day. Keep in mind if the Bengals and Titans finish with the same record the Bengals would get in because they beat them head to head...

just like packers players are starting to talk about the possibility of going undefeated this season.....our boys need to be focused on winning out with these last 3 games to secure the #1 seed. Make the playoffs come through Baltimore baby!!

Gooooooooo Ravens!

Agreed. Oakland still has a shot too. That's why I qualified my answer. I'd put higher odds on Denver and the Jets , but I wouldn't put any money on it.

The schedule favors the Jets the last week of the season if all 3 of the Bengals,Titans, and Jets are all 9-6. The Jets have the Dolphins in Miami while the Bengals have the Ravens and the Titans play in Houston both who could still be fighting for seeding and homefield advantage in the playoffs. As you said as well the Raiders are not totally dead yet; however, they pretty much face a MUST win this Sunday at home against the Lions if they are to have any chance to get a wildcard spot. They finish up at Kansas City and at home against the Chargers so a win this week against a desperate Detroit team fighting to get a wildcard spot as well would put them at 8-6 and give them an opportunity to win those last 2 games I just mentioned and possibly overtake teams like the Bengals and Titans and more importantly the Jets who they beat this season and have the head to head tiebraker over...

I guess I am being a bit of a pessimist. But the past several years have been so disappointing.
I do like your optimism. ;)

Okay, let's say we win tomorrow night and the Steelers lose. I will be happy with that alone.
For sure, having the opportunity to clinch division at home vs cleveland is better than having to do it on the road vs cincinnati.

May clinch prior to the Chargers game.

Titans just lost to Colts. (Is it going to snow?)

Now need to be big Lions and Eagles fans.

For just need either Jets or Raiders to lose to clinch.

Seeding:

Texans lost to Panthers

Indianapolis pulled off the unexpected and gave the Titans a loss, so if the Raiders OR the Jets lose, the Ravens clinch a play-off berth before the Sunday Night game even kicks off! (You already covered all that, though....)

as of right now we are in if the season ended today. becuase of the houston lost we are the number 1 seed for now. we are technically not in the playoffs yet. since the titans lost we need the lions or jets to lose as well. they are some combos of teams if they lose we would be in the playoffs even before tonight. we just wanna win out to get homefield through out.

Jets are getting murdered

And the Jets continue to be overrated. According to the media they were in "December Football" mode. Yeah right.

I'll be so happy if the Jets miss the playoffs, it would prevent Sanchez from breaking Flacco's record for most playoff wins in the first three seasons. (Flacco, Sanchez and one other QB are tied, I forget who though.)
