Hjulmann

First Seed

81 posts in this topic

So I knew we're in a race primarily with NE and HOU about the first seed in the AFC... But I've been wondering, and it may be a stupid question, but whats the difference between the first and the second seed?

Eldest child vs youngest child. * cymbal*

All kidding aside. First seed gets a home game if the two seeds meet in the conference championship game. And yes, You would always get the lowest seed left if your 1st seed.
Is it that you'll meet the team with the lowest win rate?
#1 seed gets to stay at their home turf till superbowl (afc championship is held at m&t). And they also get to fight the lowest seed.

1 and 2 seeds get first round byes. In the divisional round, the 2 seed plays the higher seeded team and if both the 1 n 2 would advance to the conference championship then obviously the 1 would get homefield

Ravens might be wishing they got the 2nd seed if they get the Steelers in the 2nd round as the 5 seed assuming the 6 seed doesnt win their wildcard game...Ravens fans will never admit it and they can say they want the Steelers again in the playoffs all they want but assuming both the Ravens and Patriots are both 1 and 2 Ravens fans cant honestly sit here and say they wouldnt much rather play someone like Houston with TJ Yates in their first game,Denver with Tebow,or the Jets or Cincy whoever gets the 6 seed as opposed to playing the Steelers in the divisional round the first game...

Which is why getting second seed might not be the worst thing. Steelers will probably be the 5th seed (if the Ravens win the division). So in the wild card round it could look like Houston vs Jets and Denver vs Steelers.

Unless the 6th seed wins. The 1st seed would have to play the Steelers. What a way to open up the divisional round.

Dammit. You just posted the exact same post a second earlier than me.

I'll admit it. I'd prefer not to see the Steelers in the Playoffs. Would prefer Denver, Houston or the Jets by far.

Realistically, we will either be #1 or #3 seed. If we win out we get have an amazing advantage staying at m&t till superbowl, and also getting to fight the lowest seed. Of course..you also get a bonus of having a bye on 1st week of playoff.

If we lose 1game we will be sent to #3 seed and will be forced to travel week to week to opponents turf. We also will need to fight wild card opponent(1extra game then #1 or 2 seed).

Haha good timing as always...But honestly being the number 1 seed in the AFC sometimes is a jinx I feel because they always seem to lose especially the last few seasons. The last 2 times the Steelers have went to the Super Bowl they were the number 2 seed in the AFC and the 1 seed got knocked out both times in the divisional round. Now dont get me wrong it's great to have homefield advantage throughout and be the top overall seed but I think it's just more important that you get the bye week and at least the 2 seed because the 1 seed always has a chance of getting knocked off on divisional weekend and if you win your game as the 2 seed Happy New Year you end up playing the AFC Championship game at home which believe me is a big big advantage...

If the Ravens win out and get home field throughout the playoffs, this is the year we go to the Superbowl...i really believe that

now, even if we dont and end up a wild card..i still believe this team is good enough to win on the road, our losses have been against poor teams, in the playoffs they will all be good...so i dont see any let downs there

If we did get the #1 seed, I fully expect to either see the Jets or Steelers.

But the Jets do need to get there. They have a rough stretch the next two games.

So say we got the 2nd seed, got a bye and the homefield advantage vs Team A, which we beat.
The 1st seed LOSES to Team B, so we are vs. Team B in the AFC champs.
We would then have the homefielder, right?

Yep. 2nd seed would be the highest seed left. Therefore home games all the way to the Super Bowl.

It is possible to be a 5th seed and have a home game in the championship game if the 6 team wins as well.

You can believe whatever you want about what Ravens fans will or won't admit , but I can tell you for certain that I will be disappointed if we DON'T face the Steelers in the playoffs , and for a reason that everyone on this board will appreciate : Beating the Steelers in the playoffs is the only chance we have of getting people like you to shut the freak up.

Tennessee has the Jags and Colts the next 2 weeks as well and should easily be able to win both of those games and push their record to 9-6 and have a shot as well. So I wouldnt write the Titans off just yet either. They almost beat the Saints the other day and came within one play of doing so... Cincy has the Rams and Arizona the next 2 weeks before they finish with the Ravens so they could be 9-6 as well. Youre right about the Jets schedule though going to Philly this weekend, then playing the Giants and then finishing up at Miami is going to be tough for them. I dont see them winning out and finishing 11-5 so either Cincy or Tennessee still has a shot at that 6 seed. And keep in mind Cincy beat the Titans so if they both finish with the same record Cincy wins the tiebraker and gets in and Tennessee is out...

Trust me my friend I am hoping it happens as well...I want a 3rd game between these two hated rivals. If they do meet in the playoffs and the game is in Baltimore because the Ravens won the division and the Ravens do end up losing once again to the Steelers this will by far be the worst loss yet for the simple fact that the Ravens beat the Steelers twice in the regular season and won the division and still couldnt beat the Steelers in the playoffs when it really counted...It's a scary painful thought for Ravens fans Im sure...One they do not want to experience because they know they will never live it down or hear the end of it...

I want PITT in the AFC championship..
Personally I want Denver. Tebow in Baltimore, national television, absolutely getting destroyed by our defense. Seeing the whole world jump back on the "pre combine" Tebow in that his motion is too slow, he doesn't have much zip on throws, wildly inaccurate, pulls the ball when his first read is gone and tries to run. Getting annihilated by Suggs, Johnson, Kruger on the edges when he tries to scramble.

Like I said, if that happens I'm committing suicide, or killing a few steeler fans first.

seriously. Well, it would be very hard to find professional football interesting after that.

By the way, does anyone know if big ben will be playing?
Yes. Nobody can say for sure.

But the worst medical doctors in the NFL will be shooting him up and won't be saying 'no' to him. (Which is kinda ironic if you think about it, I'm sure people have said 'no' to him in the past).

I'd rather the Steelers stay the 5th seed and Denver stays the 4th seed so that Pittsburgh has to deal with Tebow Magic and see them lose to a gimmicky offense.

That is a very good question. One that, even with infinite wisdom and the majesty that is Ravens, may never be answered!

honestly. i dont want to see the steelers, i want to see the super bowl. I want the number one seed, becauuse we are inconsistent but we are good at home, ill take my chances at home. I could care less if everyone says we didnt beat pittsburg so we dont deserve it...if we win it all, we deserve it. But lets worry about san diego...this could be a really tough game,
