We Should Be Keeping Rice Fresh For Post-Season

7 posts in this topic

One of our best weapons, if not the best, is Ray Rice. He is crucial to our success in the playoffs on offense and he needs to be fresh for the playoffs. So why, when this game was clearly over in the 4th quarter are we running him to the ground. Let Ricky get some reps, why burn out Rice when we are going to need him dearly in the playoffs, I think he should sit when the game is clearly won, Stats are for losers, we don't need him to be 1st in the league in yrds, we already know he's great and what he can do, god forbid he got hurt in that 4th quarter.

The priority should still be winning games, because one loss could easily drop us to the #5 seed, or at the very least cost us a first round bye. Even late in games with big leads, then Ray Rice should still be in the game because we need to kill the clock. Yes we're risking him getting injured, but the flip side is that every 40 seconds that is run off the clock because the offense in on the field, can be 4 or more plays from the opposing offense in a 2 minute drill.

Well between St. Louis, Jacksonville and Seattle he carried the ball 21 times. That seems like a nice rest to me. Rice hasn't had even 30 carries in a game this season. He has almost exactly 100 fewer carries than he had last season, with 3 games to go, so even giving him 30 carries for the next three games will give him fewer rushing attempts than last year.

Rice can handle the load, he's a big boy. Ricky Williams is taking a lot of snaps, too, so let's not pretend it's all RR.

We're giving Ray Rice carries in games because that's how a team wins late in the season. And we're giving a lot of them to Rice because he's the number one RB on the team and giving the ball to him gives us the best chance of getting first downs and grinding the game out. And also because he's a professional and he wants to be out on the field. You wouldn't be doing him a favor by taking him out of the game after three quarters, just like he wouldn't have been happy if he had been benched with 196 yards against the Browns. He wants to keep playing.

rice had more than enough rest so far this season. he is a professional player. he should be able to handle those workloads. we have three games ahead of us and we have to win all of them. if we win out we have a very good chance to go to the superbowl but at first we have those three games to be played. we need every man to win those games. the time to rest is not decembre!!!!
