Playing The Steelers In The Play-Offs

I troll this site because I am absolutely obsessed with the Ravens in a bad way. I hate this team with all of my being so I try not to post anything and just read the threads (daily, almost embarassed to say). But I like to keep it real. This thread warrants a response from a die hard Steelers fan..

Playing the Ravens in the playoffs is my ultimate fantasy. Leading up to our showdown last year, our family threw a "super bowl" party but not on superbowl sunday.. we did it on the ultimate Ravens Week which is a playoff meeting. I dream of meeting you guys again and redeeming my pride. But, in all honesty, if we were to lose to you guys this year in the playoffs... i don't even know what to say.. if we lost for a THIRD time. I think I would probably never ever say anything about the Ravens ever again. Losing in the superbowl leaves you with an empty feeling, but nothing compared to losing to the Ravens in a playoff game. I could never imagine that feeling. But Lord knows I want you guys soooo bad, it's all many of us think about

This post is equal parts creepy and sad.

You must be a rarity, because most Steelers fans don't shut up.

Not only do I want to face them in the playoffs, I think if it is in Baltimore, the Ravens will beat them. I don't think it will be all that tough unless we have to go to the Burgh. This is the Ravens year and the Steelers can't stop it. This is team was built to knock off the Steelers.

I will try to find the statistics again but I looked it up when the Ravens had to play the Steelers 3 times in 2008-2009, thinking that the Ravens had the edge in the 3rd game simply because it would be hard to knock off a team 3 times in one season. Surprisingly, history shows that usually the team that lost the first two times, usually loses the 3rd time.

If these two teams do meet again a 3rd time I dont care where it's at the game is a coin flip plain and simple. These teams are so evenly matched in so many areas it's ridiculous. The Ravens still needed a miraculous flawless 92 yard drive at the end of the game by Flacco in Pittsburgh against a Steelers defense that didnt have their best pash rusher in Lamar Woodley to beat them with 8 ticks left on the clock. I dont know if Flacco can pull something like that off again if the opportunity presents itself one more time. Now will having the game at M&T Bank give the Ravens a huge edge?? Absolutely it will but the Steelers have found a way to win a number of close games against the Ravens in Baltimore in 2 out of the last 3 seasons at the end and there is no reason they couldnt do it one more time. So all I will say is be careful what you wish for there my friend...

i think if we play that at home it will be relatively easy since we dominate at home. if somehow we end up playing them at heinz i think its still a winable game, but just a little bit harder. i could see us having a nice little run if we get home field advantage

Watching the Steelers tonight on Thursday night football made me realize that these Steelers of Pittsburgh just wont go away. They may lose another game, but there is a good chance (and we said so when we shellacked them after the first game of the season) that we will have to beat them in the play-offs too.

I usually try to take the approach the players do, and take it game by game, and day by day. So maybe I am getting ahead of myself here, or selling us a little bit short. But beating the Steelers three times in one season is way better than winning the Super Bowl.

"And Caesar's spirit, raging for revenge,
With Ate by his side come hot from hell,
Shall in these confines with a monarch's voice
Cry "Havoc!" and let slip the dogs of war,
That this foul deed shall smell above the earth
With carrion men, groaning for burial."

Dare I say bring on the Steelers, and let's bury the memory of losing to them three times two years ago. Nothing would be sweeter than to beat them at their own game, and win a championship on the way.
we can beat em its a mind game the steelers think they got us on lock but they dont

Im so glad so many of you guys think that you will blow the Steelers out of the water simply because the game will be played in Baltimore. Keep in mind the Ravens last 2 playoff games they had at home in both 2003 and 2006 they lost them both. So obviously the crowd at M&T Bank and the emotion from the crowd wasnt that good to carry the Ravens to victory...

I wouldnt say you beat them convincingly both times. You needed a 92 yard drive with 8 seconds left in the 4th quarter and no Lamar Woodley playing on the Steelers defense to beat them the 2nd time. No denying the opener was a complete and total beatdown but smart money says if the game is in Baltimore in the playoffs in January as opposed to a game in September something like that doesnt occur again. I expect to see a game like the one we saw in Pittsburgh last month...

5 years ago.... C'mon man...
True it was but while homefield is an excellent luxury to have and something you most definitely want sometimes homefield will only do so much for you. The Steelers have lost plenty of home playoff games in the past under Cowher in years where they looked unbeatable at home in the regular season as well so nothing is for sure. It still will all come down to execution and how well the Ravens as a team play on that particular day...The crowd cant score points for the Ravens on offense Cameron's playcalling which is like a yo-yo at times and Flacco's execution are the ones that have to do that...

No matter where we play, if we play, the Ravens will be there to play like they have in no other game(think game 1, X 2). The disappointment of giving the squealers the playoff game last year still burns and will be more than enough motivation.

And why talk about years passed? It's 2011 and you know the Ravens are the better squad this year.

Even though the Ravens did beat the Steelers twice I am still not ready to admit that the Ravens as a whole are a better overall team then the Steelers. I still would take Ben Roethlisberger over Joe Flacco in a playoff game with everything on the line...Joe Flacco has still yet to have that one big signifgant win in the playoffs that seperates him...

So miraculous that he did it last year at the ketchup field as well. And Lamar Woodley was in that game.

Note the key word; SQUAD.

br is one tough son of a gun, but your team, at the core, is getting old and tired. And br is not winning any game by himself.

Joe has won quite a few playoff games for a 4th year QB and is getting better by the minute. br is getting a little battle worn from taking all of those hits that your sieve of an O line allows. If not for his OL frame, he'd be toast by now.

I think I have mentioned this before; The tide has turned. We are the younger Team on the rise, the squealers are headed the other way.

Time will tell that my friend there is one more story to be written this season with the Steelers and the Ravens and when it does take place you can flush the two wins you had against the Steelers down the toilet because the one in January will be the only one that will count and matter when all is said and done...

Baltimore is definitely top dog in the AFC right now. No question about this. I can't see anyone stopping them BUT I do want to see a Steelers-Ravens III. I LOVE Ravens Steelers football. If I wasn't a Steeler fan I would definitely be a Raven fan. They are so similar. If my Steelers are out I will be backing the Ravens all the way.

M&T this year is a special place. It always is but this year, the Ravens seem to be seriously locked in at home. As far as the 92 yard drive and an MIA Woodley; well that's football. You have to play with who you have. The advantage was still with Pittsburgh because the game was in Pittsburgh with all the roaring fans and terrible towels a swinging. Give Flacco his props, he did it the year before also albiet a shorter drive but a TD was needed then too.

Not trying to disrespect anyone here but I don't think the Ravens and Steelers are evenly matched. I know I am one of the few. But I think the Ravens have the edge. I will start my point by saying the '08-'09 Steelers that beat the Ravens 3 times had the edge and last year they did too. The Ravens were older and didn't have the speed on offense. On defense our secondary was lacking. This year, the Ravens are the younger team. The Ravens went out and got speed and a pass rush, things we didn't have last year and held us back against Pittsburgh. On the surface we look to be evenly matched but the Ravens have a better run game and probably a better secondary. Troy is great and Ike has had a good year but I think we have a slight edge in coverage. I will give you the edge in QBs but we have the better run game and while you are better outside with wideouts, we are better inside with TEs. I think the Ravens are a bit better than the Steelers this year and a game at M&T will give us a little more of an edge.

Lastly, that isn't to say the Steelers have no chance at all. It's to say if both teams play up to fullest potential at M&T, the Ravens should win. The Steelers have already had two shots this year to knock the Ravens off and twice they failed. Why should things change now?

I would too. I just think it's the Ravens time and possibly Ray's final go round. I hope the Ravens send him out with a Super Bowl win. But I love to see the Ravens play the Steelers. And our time had to come. I think it's now. Now the team has to go out there and do it.
