Cp3 To The Lakers

69 posts in this topic

Lakers give Pau Gasol to the Rockets, Lamar Odom to the Hornets
Hornets give Luis Scola and Kevin Martin to the Hornets
Hornets give Chris Paul to Lakers

Who wins this trade? I think New Orleans gets pretty deep with this, getting a solid PF in Scola, good bench player in Odom, and elite scoring threat in Martin. I feel like the Lakers gave up too much for a player with a real injury history, though there's no doubt he's an upgrade over Fisher, though Paul isn't the type of defensive point guard that will be able to contain someone like Westbrook come playoff time.

I think Lakers would've been better served going for Howard. A legitimate post presence (which Bynum, at this point, is not) would have been more beneficial to the Lakers. For all intents and purposes, they are out of the running for Howard, as I (as well as many other talking heads) don't think Orlando will settle for a Bynum and throw-ins deal for Howard.

Opinions?

Not to sound greedy, but maybe Bynum + [s]Artest [/s] Metta World Peace + draft picks for D12?
Get with the program! haha

I honestly doubt that Orlando would settle for a deal like that. They are not naive or ignorant to the fact that Bynum has an injury history plus questions about his character. They could find better elsewhere

Well they're going to have a tough time finding a better center on the market.

That and the fact that Howard wont commit to re-singing with many teams, and NY being out of it makes it easier as well.

I like that CP3 is a Laker but I'd rather have Dwight. He's what they're missing , a big physical powerhouse. Bynum couldn't stay healthy, too soft.

Someone serviceable like Dalembert, or maybe they can make a run at Marc Gasol or Nene. There are plenty of good options. Now that they finalized this CP3 deal I wouldn't break the bank for Dwight.

In terms of where he might go, I think the Nets are the most enticing option available for him. The opportunity to play with Deron Williams in a big market (owned by Jay-Z, etc) would be appealing

I agree. CP3's injury history is worrisome as well. Having Howard and a more defensive-oriented pure point (someone who can contend with the likes of Westbrook in the playoffs) would've been the better option in my book

Not happy about having to give up Kmart, Scola, Dragic, + the Knicks 1st round pick for Gasol, but at least we have a top 15 player now.
Hopefully he can lure Marc to Houston and we can pair them up.

Memphis wont let Gasol go anywhere, and Nene wont exactly be cheap either. Hes the best FA in this class, and will get paid very handsomely.

I think Houston would be better served spending money to find a replacement for the scoring hole left by the loss of Martin, though a front line of the Gasol brothers would be intriguing

This is ridiculous. I thought Goodell was terrible, but Stern is an even bigger moron. The deal is fair and if all the teams are ok with it he has no right to intervene. I think the other teams are just scared that the Lakers will pick up Howard and then be unstoppable. Unlike Lebron, Wade, and Bosh, the Lakers would have three players that actually complement one another with Kobe, Paul, and Howard.

It's going to look worse when Cp3 goes to LA in the offseason anyway and NOH gets no one and ends up worse than they would if the trade went through.

Sounds like it's more on the Owners AND Stern. The Owners were the ones who went crying to Stern and Stern was dumb enough to get involved and Veto it.

I know Goodell is bad but I put Bud Selig and Stern ahead of Goodell in terms of worst commissioners.

Here's another Tweet from Ric Bucher

"Reports are owners squashed Hou-LA-NO deal, citing conflict of interest for NBA-owned NO. But sources say Pau didn't want to go to Hou, too."

Are there any good sports commissioners really?

Cp3 isn't letting this die.
He's apparently skipping training camp tomorrow and taking this up with the Union.

Good for him, he absolutely needs to do this. This is the biggest sports BS I've seen in quite some time. The owners and commissioner have no right to veto a fair trade. The Lakers are dropping their second and third leader scorer for Paul, it's not like they're stealing him.

Then again, I'm a bit biased as a closet Lakers fan.

I honestly don't even know what's going on right now..

sam_amick Sam Amick
League spokesman Tim Frank to SI.com: "Not true that owners killed the (3-team) deal. It wasn't even discussed at the Board meeting..."

Guess we're going to have to wait till midnight to find out.

Bet Gasol and Odom are thrilled to know they were trade chips. Should be GREAT for team morale and chemistry!
