MERGED: Steelers Vs 49Ers

1,351 posts in this topic

I think the 49ers pass rush could do a decent job getting to Ben and maybe aggravate that ankle injury, which would be beneficial.

But as we saw vs. Cardinals, that 9ers secondary is pretty weak. Mendenhall will be absolutely shut down but the receivers could have a pretty big day.

Offensively I think the Niners will be able to nickel and dime their way down the field if they afford Smith some protection, which will be possible especially with Harrison's impending suspension

I didnt say that you considered them inferior, If you do not than you are a rare Steelers fan. Most Steelers fans do consider them inferior.
[/quote]

Not this season. Very few people on the steeler boards i am on think that. Most feel the Steelers are good enough to win a play-off game against them but I find limited people would call the ravens "inferior"

personally....i believe that the 49ers will beat the steelers. no doubt that Jim will do his best to hand his brother John an early christmas present...another steelers loss! now...all the Ravens need to do is stay focus on their task at hand..beating the chargers!

Should be an interesting 24-27 hours between the hours of 8 pm Sunday night and 11-1130 PM Monday night...One thing is for sure we will all be back here to discuss it the days after...But really though from both a Steelers and Ravens fans perspective this is what December football is all about when two hated rivals are neck and neck. They are rooting for one another like crazy to slip hoping that they have the edge in winning the division heading into the final 2 games of the season. I wouldnt wanna have it any other way...

I still think the Steelers will find a way to take care of the 49ers regardless of their injuries and suspension issues. I really never bought into the 49ers and I do have some egg on my face for not doing so...but something about them just doesn't make me think of them as a threat in the playoffs.

My rational personality will agree with you, but my other half still believes the 49ers will take care of their business; the score should be very close like a FG will decide the win.

I don't really see them as a threat in the playoffs. They are talented and young. They will be a threat but aren't quite there yet. With a healthy Ben I'd only give them an outside chance at taking this one but even if he plays, Ben will not be mobile. The 49ers do have a pass rush and they will take advantage.

The only edge they have is playing at home and the Steelers having to make that long flight. But any given Sunday.

I think it's funny that at first people kept posting, saying it'd be ridiculous to assume he'd help his brother vs the Steelers... now look at the most recent blogs posted on br.com...

The question in this game is will the 49er offense be able to move the ball. They are quite putrid but so are the Brownies, who are probably worse and they seemed to be able to move the ball into the redzone a few times last Thurs night. As did the Chiefs who are quite bad on offense and they did it with Palko? If I remember correctly. There is something weird about the steelers and bad qb's this season. Granted the steeler defense was able to make the big stop when they needed to and came up with wins but they were also playing teams with poor defenses. San Fran is not one of those poor defenses and I believe are ranked top 5 somewhere. They played us tough I know that.

The Steelers have losses on defense (Harrison!) and are playing with banged up players if they do see the field in Polamalu and Woodley. On the offense, Pouncey and obviously, Big Ben who will play I am fairly certain. He always does and the Steelers need this game however this will not be the Browns up front and I expect the 49ers to get good pressure and create some turnovers. Ben's blind side is going to be an issue with the 49er pass rush, I forget the player (Justin something or other?) but he is having a good season.

I agree with others when they said the 49ers had a soft schedule and they do but I think they have had some impressive wins and even did it on the road. They are good enough and I see them toppling the Steelers.

Should be a very fun Sunday and Monday night!

Steelers may not have Maurkice Pouncey when they play the 49ers as it is being described as it's more likely he will miss the game than Ben. It would really be a major hit for the Steelers if Pouncey can not play it will make things worse for Ben's ankle as the 49ers pass rush will make Ben scramble a ton, that offensive line is already in shambles so minus Pouncey, Ben may end up re-injuring his ankle due to all the scrambling he'll be doing.

To be fair, San Fran's offense is better than KC and Cleveland soley by virtue of their running game. And Alex Smith is better than Palko and Mccoy. I feel pretty good about their chances. HOWEVER, it the Ravens should lose on Sunday night, then I feel really bad about the game because Pitt would know they can take over control with a win.

Looks like Patrick Willis is listed as doubtful in this game. That's a pretty epic loss for the 9ers in this game.

yea Willis will most likely not play doubt he will even be a game time decison though this is a must win for the 49ers at this point or they lose the first round bye to the saints.

Ben is listed as questionable, and Maurkice Pouncey is OUT for Monday Night's game. NFL Network Now Update said that Charlie Batch would be ready to play on Monday Night if needed.

Pouncey being out is going to seriously hurt the Steelers especially against a team like the Niners that has a dominating front 7. If Ben plays he will be far from 100% which will really hurt them. The Niners will be able to pressure him and if he isnt healthy it could get ugly. My gut tells me Ben wont play and if he doesnt the Niners should win this game for sure. Either way, it will be a low scoring game but I think the Niners pull out the win.

The fact that Ben took limited practice on both Friday and Saturday tells me that he is gearing up to go.

if the titans lose this week to the colts (3rd quarter Colts leading) the steelers secure a playoff spot even without this win....

Steelers have Clinched a Playoff Spot with the Titans loss, so the one negative about the Colts winning was that it helped the Steelers Clinch a Playoff Spot even without the Steelers playing. Though now San Fran has even more to play for, Packers loss so they need to go out Monday Night and play like they want the 1 Seed and beat Pittsburgh!

From PFT: Ben's Status for tomorrow's game could hinge on the result of the Ravens-Chargers game. If the Ravens win tonight, the Steelers could end up resting Ben tomorrow night, but if the [Ravens] lose the Steelers may end up playing him.

Well, We obviously need the 49ers to beat the Steelers. I'm hoping Jim's present to John is getting us a #1 seed..

I'm glad that the 49ers lost last week.. That might give them motivation to win tomorrow night. I'm gonna be praying that the 49ers will get Gore a lot of nice carries and Alex Smith can have a lot of nice passes.

So is anyone with me?

LET'S GO 49ers!

Patrick Willis will be back this week, and Harrison is out for Steelers and a Injured Big Ben. Plus its in San Fran. I think niners could make it happen.

Hell yea.. this is our last and only chance to win the division if the niners win and If we win the division we would most likely get the 2 seed now cause The Pat won today.

We basically gift-wrapped another division title to the Steelers. Congrats.

Hopefully the 49ers' D can crush Ben and force some turnovers... we need them to win at all costs now!

Woodley is expected to play. Ben could play if he passes and hands off out of the shotgun and throws the ball away instead of scrambling, to stay off that ankle. But any given Sunday....
