Media Spin On Defense's Age!

42 posts in this topic

Two words: Michael Strahan. He is a prime example of how an older player can still deliver game in and game out. IMO, when people refer to people getting "up in years", in this context, they are referring to Ray Lewis. Ray It would be much different if there was a mid thirties cornerback , (which i know there have been a good number of ), where you would be loosing some spped, but as for Lewis, he's a player that relies on strength. That explains his 6 day a week training sessions, right? In the words of my brother a "big ol' lineman", differs greatly from the players whose primary asset is spped, which doesn't apply to the defensive line.

I dislike watching ESPN and even NFL Network because you rarely hear them talk about the Baltimore Ravens. You hear more about the Colts (0-12) than you do the (9-3) Ravens. Flacco is better than most of the NFL QBs yet we always hear that he isnt good enough by guys on ESPN and NFLN. And aging Ray Lewis is still top 3 MLB and is going to go to another ProBowl this. Ed Reed is healthy and the ball doesn't even get thrown his way and when the ball is thrown his way it is always almost an interception. plus he has over 40 tackles. It really makes watching sports television bad when they doubt our team all the time. Just saying.

Your right, my mistake. Totally forgot he played last yr. Just shows you how much i pay attention to Tebow.
haha no worries. I actually wish him well, watched his highschool documentary, and I appreciate tough QB's and Tebow is one tough son of a gun. QB's that get under my skin are the ones that cry and complain every time they get hit. I remember last year Flacco not only got hit after the whistle, but then another guy fell on top of him, in the process Flacco took a knee to the head. He got up brushed himself off, got the call and moved on to the next play. If that were Brady.......goodness he woulda been in tears, having a hissy fit, pulling his hair out. There would have been more flags than a United nations meeting. Flacco, Tebow, and a few select others have my respect.....cry babies do not.

LOLOL unreal, the kid sucks, im sorry he does. I think Andy Dalton should be Rookie of the yr if it were to come down to a rookie QB. The Defense and just pure dumb luck (opposing teams missing very easy field goals) have been helping Tebow win.
Lol well irony is Tebow isn't a rookie.... I feel it's Cam Newton OROY. Dalton has been great and all but If Dalton gets credit I feel that AJ Green should get 50% of it as well...... Cincy wins came against lesser competition ( sure they were competitive with steelers and ravens ). Cams writing Rookie QB record books losing close games ( that no one ever expected a panther team to be in to begin with ). But that's just my thoughts

Great post, and i have to agree with you. I personally dont think our DEFENSE is old, especially with all the GREAT talent that we have with all the Young players that are difference makers now, let alone what they are going to do in the Future. I think we are Set on Offense and Defense. Im surprised that the media isnt talking about out set our team is. You know the media was dying for our Defense to fail horribly when Ray went out. That didnt happen so now they are just trying to find anything to make us look bad. I personally dont get why it looks and sounds like we are hated so much, like we are a second tier team. Heck i think we are one of the top 3 nfl teams, last yr,this yr and yrs to come.

Im starting to think the Media is just Jealous and they wont be able to deny our greatness for much longer, you know the media had a field day when we lost to horrible teams because they always bring it up, no one mentions, how we lost to the Seahawks. And that surprises me more, Yes we lost when Rice didnt get that many carries but i dont think thats the reason why we lost, it was just some fluke plays and play calling. I dont think we have to Run Rice 25 times to win, i think we can win throwing it. We have the QB that can lead us and we have a great WRer and TE core. And we have a Marshall Faulk type RB that is just as good at receiving. I feel that if Rice was a few inches taller he would be an elite wr.

Thanks about the post.... I heard mike and mike mentioning this morning that ravens defense could stop Green bay but that defense is aging so would it really be able to stop them. Cuz Pats could score enough against GB and Steelers of course would " just stop them with their D" so which 9-3 team is best in AFC.
And I was like once again people saying the defense is old????
Lol

There used to be no doubt in my mind that these networks and analysts followed every team in football, otherwise they wouldn't be there. Now I'm really not sure that's the case.

Its fairly evident that they don't, but it is really difficult. I can't really tell you much about all of the other 31 teams. Granted I'm also not paid as an analyst, but my point is that outside of people who study well (Mike Mayock is a prime example) players like Kruger, McPhee, Mcclain, Cary williams, and Webb go basically unnoticed. Ed, Ray, Sizzle and Ngata cast a pretty big shadow.

It seems like every time I'm watching one of the Football talk shows on ESPN or NFL Network and the Ravens come up, the Topic of 1st can Flacco win a SuperBowl comes up followed by can an Aging Defense continue to play well.....

My Question is Why is this Defense Constantly Referred To As OLD!!?

Facts are:
5 members of the Defense are currently over 30 years old
2 of those 5 happen to be Ed Reed (33) and Ray Lewis (36) the unquestioned leaders on defense ( followed by Suggs )
The other 3 players are C.Redding (31), J.Johnson (30) , B.Ayanbadejo (35)..... while I'm not trying to discredit or diminish these 3 guys impact on this team, the fact is that young players are in place to fill the positions in the future....

It's like none of the other talent on Defense even exists : Ngata (27), Suggs (29) , Webb (26), C.Williams (26), T.Cody (23), J.Smith (23), P.McPhee (22), P.Kruger (25).....

The point is we have young talent on both sides of the ball defense and offense but somehow the media acts if the Window is closing on the Ravens SuperBowl Chances....
I am probably one of the few that hold that this is the best year to reach the Super Bowl given Ray's age and E. Reed's status. I think we will make the Super Bowl this year, and that is base on the mix of veteran leadership we have and the young talent that has stepped-up during our games. I do not think the window will completely close, but this is a make-or-break year to reach the Super Bowl.

Ive never heard anyone in the media call the Ravens defense old. Dont care look at how well were playing
Yeah I haven't heard any analysts brand our defense old this year. Heck I even remember there was an article on NFL.com about the youth we now have on D.

I just dont understand why our DEFENSES age came up. Its not like we are losing or looking slow. If anything we are looking better and better every week on D.
