Cap Space?

47 posts in this topic

Does anyone know how much cap space will be left after this season for re-signings and free agency? I can't find anything about it. I'm curious to know how much we have with allot of big-name re-signings coming up.

C'mon man, you don't have to ruin the guys topic because you're worried about something else, some of us are interested in the numbers and implications for the team beyond this season as well.

I suppose that there will be another round of dramatic cuts after the draft to free up cap space. This will be most important to sign Grubbs, even if they franchise Rice. Still, the idea that this topic should be revisited after the season is over is not too harsh.

It's a pretty interesting development because rice will get big money, and i think grubbs is the man we need to resign most. While Flacco wins, he hasn't really put up the numbers and some may argue he has not nearly progressed enough as he should have being a fourth year starter now. I'm not so sure how quick the ravens will be to sign flacco to a huge quarterback contract with these other important guys coming up. I dont mean were not gonna resign flacco i just dont think the ravens will be willing to give him top dollar

Usually when this question is asked its because you want somebody. Who is it?

Drew Brees? Matt Forte? Finley? Mario Williams? DeSean Jackson? Wes Welker? Vincent Jackson?

Plenty of big names out there. None of them we will probably sign.

Good answer. I have no doubt in my mind that Grubbs and Rice will be Ravens in 2012. Not to sure about JJ.

I want to keep JJ, but he's not a MAJOR loss like Grubbs. Paul Kruger looks good, and I hope to see some Sergio Kindle soon too. :)

Isnt Flaccos contract up as well? Grubbs, Rice and Flacco?
Flacco still has one more year. Free Agent in 2013.

Looking at the list of Free Agents for this season it seems Rice and Grubbs may be the only big money players. Jarrett Johnson I'm ok with letting go as I think Kruger has come along great and will be a great OLB for us. I'll be comfortable with letting Cory Redding go and starting McPhee next season at LE. Webb is a Restricted Free Agent next year and I'm sure they will tender him like a 1st round pick and try to work something out with him later on. We'll most likely Franchise Ray Rice, offer Grubbs a good reasonable deal but won't over pay for him if some other team does, and Webb will be most likely tendered a 1st Round pick and be given a new contract later.

Joe we can worry about next year when his contract is up.

We'll have enough to do whatever Ozzie and co. want to do. We might have to work a long term deal out with Rice sooner rather than later to get rid of the franchise tag which he'll surely have placed on him.

Everyone seems to think we will Franchise Rice, but would it make more sense to Franchise Grubbs and lock up Rice long term? Just a thought.

Also I dont think we know what the Cap will look like next year at this point. There is a good chance it will be 10M+ higher than it is this year. That would help a lot.

seeing players like fred jackson and willis mcgahee have very good years, even ricky williams, just futher cements my thinking pay grubbs whatever it takes, and if rice says no to a "lesser" contract let him walk, all you need a is runner to get 3.5 yards a play... 3 runs at that is a first down... you dont need to pay a RB AD of CJ money unless you dont have a pass attack and rely solely on the run... We have shown we can pass first then run in a few games when we had protection.. RBs can be replaced rather easily and cheaply, ben grubbs however cannot

I think you may be under valuing a little what RR means to our Team. I think we need to do what it takes to keep him.

While it may be true that there are a lot of backs always available, they are not of the caliber of RR. He produces much more than a run here and there and even when he's not involved in the play, the opposition is occupied with watching him. AND he's young and healthy.

no point paying him or flacco if there getting hit in the backfield.. see games ben grubbs was injured while flacco and rice were still there... get your o line and d line sorted first.. everything works from there..

When you sign Rice you're getting top 10 Runningback AND a guy that's putting up solid WR2 numbers.

That would be like the Bears not paying Matt Forte. You do whatever it takes to keep your top offensive weapon. It's that simple.

I agree. Build from the inside out. But I think we do what is needed to keep Grubbs and RR and Joe.

I read somewhere on espn.com (i think it was sheftner) that they expect us to tag rice because it would be 7M. I'm not sure how much it would be to tag grubbs but I'm assuming it won't be too much cheaper.

I'm pretty sure JJ is going to be a jet after this year and if we like a saftey in the draft that will probably be zibi's fate too. With birk retiring and maybe ray retiring, we should have enough cap space to sign our young players long term

why pay him when his and flaccos output dropped when we had no one blocking? im not saying dont pay him, im saying sign grubbs first then sign rice with whats left and if he says no, he says no.. i think

Googled it and this website has some good numbers on the ravens cap situation

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/cap-hit/

right now it says we are around 104mill
You can do some calculations to figure out how much space we have for next year by looking at the salaries by year page
Not sure if this helps..but interesting nonetheless

Not saying I want this to happen but if Ray Lewis and Ed Reed retire and we release Foxworth and Jarret Johnson then that will save us some serious cash. We are looking stacked at middle linebacker but without Reed the safety position becomes our weakest position. We definitely need to look in the draft or free agency for his replacement this year. With Reed at FS have been able to have strong safeties who suck in coverage because Reed makes up for it. Need some examples? Will Demps, Dawan Landry, and now Pollard. I dont trust zbikowski and pollard together. I would rather have Zibby and Nakamura starting because they both excel in coverage and can tackle. Pollard is a tackling/hard hitting machine but is too slow in coverage. Just watch the Seahawks game and you'll see what I mean.

and that is the reason for my first comment..

Way way too many variables to even guess wgat it is right now let alone end of the year
