Blaine Gabbert Worst Rookie Qb?

47 posts in this topic

Okay I know this has been a season when we had no OTA's and whatnot, but some of the other QB's from this draft haven't had much of a problem with this. Even Christian Ponder has been playing alright. I don't know if it was his receiver or what, but Gabbert was off target almost all night tonight. And he really didn't impress me when we played him. The only reason I can think that they did anything against us is because maybe they lost an O-Lineman after our game. But even so, Dalton has been really great under pressure. I saw Gabbert lean back under pressure while passing it. But the Jaguars may actually have to draft another QB next draft. I heard one of the commentators mention the guy from Baylor. If anything, this guy solidified my support for Joe Flacco. I know Gabbert didn't get much help from his defense, but the Chargers defense isn't that great either and Rivers still hung in there and stepped up to make his passes under pressure.

If anyone hasn't seen it, you should watch the Sound FX video from nfl.com
http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-films-sound-efx/09000d5d8249df34/Sound-FX-Blaine-Gabbert

Now I know Flacco used to get heat over how verbal he was and how he lead the offense. So these videos aren't everything.
But not that impressive all the same from Gabbert.

The Jaguars are keeping their GM so I would think they'll stick with Gabbert for next year.
But right now, he's not looking impressive at all.
And the Jags had Dalton and Ponder still on the board when they took Gabbart. Well all teams make errors in the draft and it's easy now to sit back and question the pick. But there were concerns raised at the time too

Gabbert's been thrown to the wolves, and you can blame the ousted Del Rio for that...for cutting Garrard and just shoving Gabbert in there with no preparation.

Yes the Jags are a train-wreck in progress, but when Gabbert was drafted, they probably had plans to sit Gabbert for the year and let him learn that way. But if the pick was questioned in the first place, who knows.

When the draft came around i thought he was the most overrated QB. Absolutely no pocket awareness. I feel bad for him though, you cant get drafted by a worse organization and the fans there have already given up on him.

I honestly think he's going to be an elite QB one day, and sooner rather than later. Rookie seasons are never a good indicator of what to expect over a quarterbacks career.

I usually don't put too much on rookie years for QB's. Especially on a team with no weapons other than MJD.

But the guy just looks scared. And I don't mean scared as looks scared on tv, but as in him altering his throws to avoid contact. Not sure how you fix that.

He kind of reminds me of Kyle Boller, except with a weaker arm.

Gabbert was way overrated during the draft, and really shouldn't have been drafted before the fifth round. The kid couldn't complete passes on third down in college, which is how you make money in the NFL, and I don't see that changing now. I knew whoever drafted him was making a big mistake, and so far he's just been proving my points.

Yeah, he is afraid to take shots down field and he doesn't know how to read defenses.

Can we please have a mulligan with our game against the Jags?

Yet they reward their GM with a new contract, yup that franchise is about done. It kinda makes me wanna laugh how much of a fail he is. Not to mention he is such a wimp. However he has absolutely no talent around him.

Games: 13
Completions: 63.4%
Yards Per Attempt: 6.7
Touchdowns: 16
Interceptions: 9

That was Gabbert's last season at Mizzou. Numbers like that in a spread offense would normally mean you're not even a sought after UDFA. Those are pathetic numbers for any kind of offense, nevermind a spread.

He never threw for more than 24 Touchdowns in Missouri's spread offense. His predecessor, Chase Daniel, never threw LESS than 28 Touchdowns in the exact same offense and went undrafted. OK, Chase is 6'0" and Gabbert is 6'5" but really?

The fact Gabbert was rated anything above a fourth round pick is rediculous. The guy hates contact and you can't teach balls. I don't like judging QBs on their rookie seasons, but Gabbert's showing 0 promise.

I still can't believe a spread QB with such pathetic stats was considered anything greater than a 4th round developmental pick.

I don't know how in the world he managed to get drafted in the first round, but lets be real here, did anyone expect him alone to be the Jag's savior? To be honest he was thrown into a bad situation. Forced into a starting spot, playing for the Jags, vet QB released, playing for the Jags, not having and talent around him other than MJD, and you know, playing for the Jags. He's in a crappy situation. He's been set up to fail. And he can thank Del Rio for screwing him over.

You think he's gonna be as good as Rodgers, Brees or Brady?

I don't see him being elite. Maybe the level of Matt Ryan, but that's it. Not even sure if I'd say he'll be that good. But like some have mentioned, the guy has no weapons. But even if he does, he just looks scared.

I'd say he has Brees potential, you hear the commentary about him not taking shots downfield, but then later on they talk about how bad the receivers are.

Gabbert is turning into what most 1st-round QBs coming out of college used to be - a guy who can't handle the big leagues. Surprising that overall, he's the only rookie QB that seems that way. Usually there's more of them.

Eh, hes got one of the best runners in the game and still does nothing. Certainly not saying he cant become something, but as of now he looks sad. Even more the reason why I hate Cam!!!!

Remember too, he lost out on having a full offseason, which hurt him. Both Jake Locker and Christian Ponder sat for a while during the season, giving them time to learn their offenses - and Locker is probably being mentored by one of the best, in my opinion - Hasselbeck is the perfect example of a guy with average physical talent that became a pro-bowl qb through preparation and dedication. Andy Dalton has the benefit of playing on a team with a lot of weapons around him and a tremendous defense. And Cam Newton is just a special talent in general. Even these guys have taken their lumps. Gabbert had the misfortune of being like Sam Bradford, a qb with a lot of skill in throwing the ball but not "elite" physical talent, so if he doesn't have receivers, a good running game, etc. he can't "make things happen" like a Newton or a Locker, or, dare I say it, Tim Tebow. He doesn't really have anybody there to mentor him in how to play the game - IDK what Luke McCown could have taught him (by the end of this season Gabbert will have had more starts than McCown has had in his career - all 8 years of it). And Gabbert has had one of the toughest schedules to play - Cinci, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Houston twice, San Diego, and he's going to have to play Tennesse and Atlanta. So either teams with dominant defenses or teams with high powered offenses. Not a great position for any rookie to be in. If this was 2013, and he was still doing this, then there would be an issue.

Well, that's it folks. Call the Blaine Gabbert experiment a failure. The guy is flat-out SHOOK. He doesn't have what it takes to be an NFL quarterback, like many former first round busts. The game is too big for him. There is likely no future for him as a starter or even a backup. He's also set Jacksonville back a few years, as they released Garrard following drafting the rookie.

Not to beat a dead bush.. But Good Lord I can't believe we lost to this pathetic excuse for a qb. This loss better not come back to bite us, it haunts me.

The Colts lost the first game against the Jags , but based on tonite's game , I'm thinking Indy may get their first win in the final game of the season.

The tapes of this game should build up the Colts confidence , at least.
