Grubbs Looked Like He's Playing For A New Contract!

43 posts in this topic

Sine the recent media-induced rumors that Grubbs might not be back with the Ravens next year have surfaced... I was paying a lot more attention to his play in this weekend's game.

He looked dominant. He was getting up the field and blocking at the 2nd level. It looked like a guy who wants to be on this team, and is hoping management will lock him up sooner rather than later so temptation doesn't creep in during the off-season.

There's been good players let go, players with plenty left in their tank. They've gone to other teams and produced. But Grubbs was drafted by the Ravens, and drafted high. He plays offensive line which is usually much harder to find talent at than the "skill positions." He's also still relatively young.

He's not going anywhere. If you trust in Ozzie, you have to believe Grubbs will be a Raven past his rookie contract.

I really hope Oz works out a way to keep him. I really do not think it is an accident that the Oline played poorly when he was out and then improved dramatically once he got back.

the offensive line decides how we play each game. next to flacco and rice, i think grubbs is a key to resign and hopefully we build up the line more

Ya I think we need to resign this guy and draft a tackle in the first round to replace Mckinnie once his contract is up. Although maybe we could wait until the draft in 2013 to address that need because I believe we have Mckinnie signed for next year as well.

Inside Linebacker and Left Tackle are the two positions I'm most concerned about going into next year. Although Jah Reid was supposed to be one of those guys in the draft who was raw but had the upside to someday play left tackle, I believe.

Right tackle, and moving Oher to LT was the plan I think. Ive always liked Grubbs as a player. It was an easy choice to pay Yanda like we did because he can play RT if needed and you dont find Gs that can hold up in pass protection on the edge. But our offensive line is totally different without Grubbs play.

Grubbs has been playing at a high level since 2007. He is our best offensive lineman with yanda coming in at a close second.

The issue with Grubbs isn't whether or not were going to pay him, its whether another team is going to overpay for him.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, he's not going to get Yanda's contract from us, he'll be offered great guard money but not tackle money.

I love Grubbs but there is no way we can afford to pay both our guards $7 million a season which is what he deserves. I just hope he doesn't get signed by someone in our division.

i think we can, we have a lot of cap this year and even though we have to resign flacco and rice too, i think we'll be able to sign all three of them. I just don't see a way ozzie will let grubbs walk, he is an important part of our offense.

Yanda>Grubbs.
i would hate to imagine 2012 without 66 anchoring the line...
but evidently, it's going to happen, with Ray Rice's contract, and
Flacco coming up,
We need some cash in hand.

Yanda>Grubbs implies that Yanda is better than Grubbs...

What I have noticed especially with the Ravens this season is that when you don't have a solid o-line, the qb, rb, te, and receivers all don't play well. Grubbs very important piece for offence success.

which is kinda what i was implying...
Yanda is the more versatile guard imo
and more nasty in the trenches.
having Grubbs is nice for now.
we better make the superbowl with the line we have now.

Grubbs is the superior player though. Yanda was able to squeeze Oz for more money because they claimed he should get tackle money. Having Yanda and that flexibility on the right side of the line is great, but Grubbs is our best lineman and we should do everything in our power to retain him.

true.
i think Grubbs and Birk really gelled the last few years,
which is fantastic,
but knowing that we need to replace Birk as well,
ehh,
kinda down on that.

Grubbs is just as important as Rice if not more important. I would hate for us to overpay for Rice and have no one to open any holes for him....

Birk is gone next season and we will probably put Gurode at center.

Ben will be re-signed.

Grubbs was playing at a high level before Birk came here. Grubbs is the leader of that line and he needs to remain a Raven.

imo, rice is a bit more important, but true, his production will fall without grubbs.
i think...
McKinney, Gurode, (possibly Konz), Yanda, Oher looks pretty good for next season.
Unless Reid decides to elevate and come into the mix.

No...he's not. Yanda's the best guard in the league right now.

I would give Grubbs a similar contract to the one they gave Yanda but slightly higher. We don't know how many teams will be throwing money at him but he would be gone in FA. Don't wait. Resign him before he hits the market.

Giving Grubbs a contract depends on what the market is offering. But I don't think there is any doubt that having a solid offensive line is vital. With having Grubbs and Yanda, our running game will be effective for years. Now it would be crazy if the Ravens didn't offer Grubbs a good contract, and I know, for that reason, they will offer a competitive bid. But the Ravens won't offer Grubbs 10 million a year if that is what he is trying to get. Ravens manage their contracts very well, and they give reasonable offers so they can continue to give out contracts to their other players. If Grubbs gets offered a 8.5 million to 10 million dollar per year contract somewhere else then I don't think the ravens will match it, and for the own good for Grubbs, he should go where the money is at.

Good point about market value, he could very well become the highest paid guard ever.
[/quote]
If that's the case I doubt he remains a Raven. Sad.

How can you even say that. Yeah Yanda gets all the recognition from the analysts because of his run blocking, but Grubbs is the better overall guard in both pass protection and run blocking.
