Merged: Jamison Hensley, ESPN Column - Steelers Best In AFC

51 posts in this topic

The Steelers finally have a dominating win over a team and Hensley is caught in the moment and declares the Steelers are the best team in the AFC, no matter if they don't have the best record or if the Ravens have swept them.

Its just more of that week to week bias these national media guys have, the Ravens were declared the best in the AFC and best in division a few times and I'm fine with that.

I'm not even mad that its the Steelers, I can admit if they are better than us....but they aren't and I think if we play a perfect game like they had we are just as good and then some

The Steelers win a game big and they are the best, the Ravens win big games throughout the year...multiple 'statement games' and what..its all forgotten because its so week to week

I just had to rant on about that....and Hensley he's so annoying to me, I guess it's because he came from the Baltimore Sun, idk

Its not really far fetched.

Pittsburgh seems to be the best all around team in the AFC, and don't really have a huge weakness that could haunt them in the playoffs.

That offense can keep pace with just about any in the NFL, and the D is getting healthy.

Every other big team in the AFC does:

NE - Terrible defense
Baltimore - Inconsistent offense, worst OC in the NFL
Houston - down to 3rd string QB

Hensley picked the Ravens to win the division in the pre-season. A little odd to see him pick the steelers now after we swept them.

actually at the beginning of the season James Walker was in control of the AFC North blog over at ESPN.com and he picked the Ravens

...maybe Hensley did too

You're right! James, Jamison, sounds the same when you're tired. Maybe I should go to bed.

Wait until they can beat the 49ers. Then we'll see if the Steelers are what they're cracked up to be. Because honestly when we win big the excuse is "well they can't beat bad teams on the road". Then after our win this week they'll say "well the Browns are a bad team".

or we dont win as impressively as we should, which is dumb..every team that plays us is playing like its their Superbowl...now I'm sure its the same thing for the Steelers but we win and we have more quality wins

Does anyone really care what Hensley says? He's probably the worst division writer on ESPN.com, and I recall him giving out bad info during his time with the Baltimore Sun.

Pittsburgh has a terrible O line and a more than exposable secondary.

The Steelers have been inconsistent like the Ravens , and as recently as just last week , against KC.

I don't think there's much separation between us and them , but if I had to say who was better , I wouldn't be dumb enough to pick the one who had gone 0-2 vs. the other this season.

I was wondering if anyone flows the AFC north blog by Baltimore own Jamison Hensley on ESPN.com? He just posted an article proclaiming that the Steelers are the best team in the AFC. I'm battling a couple knuckle heads in the forum right now. I just wanted Baltimore’s opinion on JH articles.

Yeah I seen it. He really started something over that lol. I think it's anti-homerism personally. He's been called a Ravens homer the moment he started there.
What better way to nullify that theory than by supporting the rival team? haha

It was a silly article. He argued the Steelers played a better game against a more complete team, which is true, but let's look at our game...first of all it was raining. Secondly the Browns defense is so bad all we had to do was run the ball, so that's all we did. Rice had over 200 yards, and we won convincingly. Who cares if the stats aren't sexy? It was a win and it wasn't a close game to anyone who actually watched it.

I don't think JH watched the game. He was at the Steelers game, so it's more than likely he watched highlights and looked at the stats of the Ravens game, and decided that was enough to call it a "sloppy performance". Whatever, that's fine. What matters is we swept the Steelers and are in first place. Let the Steelers come to Baltimore in January, let's see what happens.

I totally didn't see the game, but in looking at the stats, how the heck did they win 35-7?
Roethlisberger threw for 176 yards
Pitt ran for 136 yards

There were two total turnovers, one on a KR and an INT. There were "only" 3 sacks. So... I guess it was penalties AGAINST the Bengals? 10 penalties for 109 yards? The score indicates a "dominating" performance. The stats, not so much. Are the stats lying in the case?

I loved our game plan. It wasnt flashy or pretty, but after multiple road letdowns, we came out and won in a game we dominated. I couldnt have asked for much more

Count me in on this rant though perhaps for different reasons.

Pitt the more complete team? Well, perhaps, if we're counting those in stripes. At least be honest here and say they benefited from some very very very blatantly biased officiating. I'm not even going to go into all the non-calls on Steelers nor the fact that they took a TD from the Bengals and gave the Steelers a TD with a non-call, virtually breaking the Bengals' back at the end of the half.

It's tough to beat a team plus the zebras. Just sayin'.

This ESPN dude is so far from being a homer it's not even funny. I don't think I've ever seen him tout the Ravens like he does the Steelers. I never laughed so hard as when someone called him a Ravens' homer in the Q & A thing he does on Wednesdays. It's absurd.

The Bengals game was a bad game for them. Pittsburgh was obviously better prepared and were the beneficiaries of only one blown call although that call did result in a punt returned for a touchdown before halftime. However I am sick of this fetid infatuation that the NFL itself and commentators have for the Steelers and the Packers. It's big business for those two teams to be successful and the NFL is a business. The Ravens never get any respect. But they are used to that. That is why home field advantage would be huge for the Ravens. If they play the Steelers in the playoffs or New England (both more popular than the Ravens) they have to make sure they beat them so soundly that the officials cannot hand the game to their opponent.

Don't know which blog you are referring to, but the one I saw said something like "The Steelers are the most consistent team in the AFC". But in the pervious sentence he says "no other team has a better resume of victories than the Ravens." Besides, if he is looking at stats, then it's the same thing as the people who two weeks ago were proclaiming Andy Dalton better than Joe because he had 4 more TDs and, and the time I think, fewer interceptions, the same people who keep saying Patrick Willis is better than Ray Lewis, the same people who say MJD is better than Ray Rice. It's just an opinion. The bottom line is that if we win out, the Steelers have to come to Baltimore, and I think that gives us a huge advantage. I'm more focused on Indy this week, and next week San Diego, then Cleveland again and Cinci. The only game that "should" be a gimme is Indy, but after what happened in Jacksonville and Seattle I'm taking no chances and making no bets.

Once more, who cares what people say in the media? We're almost never recognized like that (hell I didn't even see our win anywhere on NFL.com last night other than in the score section). Hell, I like being the underdog.

Huh, I must've been wrong when I thought we not only beat the 49ers, the Jets, the Texans..... but also we beat the Steelers twice!! This is funny!
