It's Time We Get Rid Of Billy Cundiff

Missing a few kicks? How about leading in missed kicks.
That's because we keep trying 50+ yard kicks. He's missed 8 FGs, 26/34, and at least 5 of those misses have been 50+. If you think that warrants getting rid of your kicker, I don't know what to say.

And I don't care if his salary THIS year is 5 million, you said we're paying him 5+ a year. That's blatantly false. Everyone gets some good upfront money when they sign a long term contract.

Who out there is going to come in and do a better job? Any kicker in the league will tell you that anything over 45yds in this league isn't a gimme. He isn't the most accurate kicker in the league, but he's no Houshka either. There's something to be said for any kicker who can handle the pressure of a last second FG to win the game. If anyone remembers that Houshka miss vs the Vikings, I KNEW he was going to miss it. When he was about to kick the first time, Minnesota called the timeout and instead of just completing the motion of the kick, he stopped and about fell on his face. 30 seconds later you could just see the jitters as he was waiting for the snap. Cundiff on the other hand hasn't cost us a game yet..so let's just ease off of the guy.

Billy stays... He's been a good all around kicker for the Ravens... Harbaugh's press conference monday stated that the Browns kicker tried "4 or 5 from that end and missed them all" in the pregame...

Haushka, I swear every time he approached the ball, everyone in this house assumed he would miss... Not so with Billy, we actually expect it to go through the uprights... More disappointing obviously when it doesn't... Cleveland was a tough day... Bill will bounce back and continue to pin teams back on kick-offs!

He frustrates me.

Lately he has not been booming them out on kickoffs either so what is he really worth?

He's expendable IMO
Expendable? Would you people who want to give him the boot PLEASE name a satisfactory replacement???

"*chirping crickets**

Didn't think so...cause there isn't a satisfactory replacement available. Like it or not, Billy is ours, for good or bad.

This overreaction to want to get rid of Billy Cundiff is right up there with the overreaction to start Troy Smith and Tyrod Taylor over Joe Flacco.

I'd actually like to see Harbaugh and Cam go for some more 4th downs if they're in the high 40's low 50's of field goal range. And not just on 4th and 1, but on 4th and 4 and 4th and 5 too. The defense is playing solid and the way you score points is by being aggressive. (Note that doesn't mean throwing 40 yard passes on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd down then punting.)

You know that Cundiff has problems making 50 yard field goals, but the best thing about Cundiff last year was his ability to get touchbacks. Admittedly his touchback stats have slipped a bit this year, he's 3rd in number of touchbacks, and 6th in percentage of kickoffs that result in touchbacks, but he's still among the league leaders. He set an NFL record last year for the number of touchbacks. Admittedly that's already been broken this year with the rule change and probably 6+ kickers are going to end up breaking the record, but my point is that improving on last season shouldn't just be assumed.

um that makes no sense, threads on fourms have nothing to do with what happens on the Field

Gets the ball rolling when you speak negative it is contagious. Writers and others will pick up on it. The best place for any sports writer to find info is Forums.

on the news page on the website they mention us complaing about Cundiff and there is a better chance the Ravens read the news then the forum. Some Players might look at this we dont know this! so i agree with you!

And Cundiff if you are reading this thanks for signing my hat! lol

Cam is our new kicker.
He should be our kickee.

That would provide the motivation for Billy and other Ravens to build up their leg strength.

I agree with that part... Especially based on the fact that they knew it was brutal kicking at that end of the field in Cleveland... Once would think that if the opposing kicker missed every attempt at that end of the field in pre-game, you "might" think twice about having your kicker try it?

Every professional NFL writer/analyst think that we are stupid for saying "GET RID OF HIM" and I agree...
Yeah, but we don't care about analyst's opinions... right??????

Interesting point brought up on the AFC North blog on ESPN today.

Cundiff hasn't missed a single field goal at home.

So... let's go home field advantage!

I still believe in Billy because he has come through for us in high pressure situations. The minute he repeats Steve Hauschka's kick in the Minnesota game in 09, then I'll worry.

I didnt even read the Thread post, why is this even still being discussed, Cundiff is our Kicker. He is a good kicker, very educated too. (not that many people know that either)

Cundiff is a draw kicker like most (starts right and end back to center) and his misses are to the right, more than likely because he didnt put enough spin on the ball. And as for the Browns game, im not trying to make excuses but it raining pretty dam bad and any one that plays golf , knows how hard it is to put spin on the ball when its wet.

Also if the coaching staff knows Billy struggles when they are lined up more to the right hash mark , why wouldnt they try to get him more to the left hash mark if they knew they were more than likely going to kick a field goal. Its not like we have to change our play calling because 9 out of 10 times we are going to run it, so if your going to run it, run it to the left a bid to help Billy. If Billy is struggling , then its the jobs of the coaches to help him out. Billy knows what he has to do.

Anyone still rooting for this highest paid kicker to put money on him in clutch time?

He still is leading in the most missed kicks this season. Time to get rid of this 1-year wonder OUT.

This guy is getting worse by every week. He is absolutely NOTHING like he was last year, and definately is not living up to his contract. I knew it was not good to sign him for such a huge contract for a journeyman that wasnt picked up by anyone for 2years then once he has 1year, we sign him to +5m p/year contract. Billy needs to GO.

even though people disliked your post 53 times, im pretty sure you were right. we should have stuck with graham

Not only was he missing FGs, he also wasn't able to kick touchbacks this season with any consistency after doing so last season when the kickoff was further back.

What happened?
