It's Time We Get Rid Of Billy Cundiff

187 posts in this topic

He is not quite as bad as his numbers would indicate. Two missed today were in horrible conditions and most of the rest of his are over fifty yards. Still when you are a defense and ball control team like the Ravens three points can mean a great deal.

What I find interesting is people are really pretty much ignoring anything but their gut feelings on this. Take a look at the numbers. His statistics are on par with what he did last year. The only difference? Last year they only had him attempt one 50+ yard field goal, which he missed. This year, it has been six.

Drop 5 of those 50+ FG attempts and keep one that he missed to keep that percentage the same and you get 92% for FGs. If you add in the 2 misses today with 1 made, you get 86.2% for the year (2010 was 89.7%). He scored 117 points for all of last year, this year he has 108 points with 4 games to go.

Yea, his numbers put him in the top 5 kickers in the NFL (and depending on what you look at, Top 3). Who are you going to replace him with?

I'm not going to pretend to know how he has kicked this year but I would hope doubters realize it's not easy kicking in Cleveland with conditions like they were today. Kickers (like any other position) will have bad games. Give the guy a freaking break.. you all still won.

He missed 2 FG's.. 2.. That's it. It's not like he missed 6.. or even one to win the game. We beat the Browns 24-10. Calm down. He doesn't need to be cut or anything. He's a great kicker.

He'll be fine. IMO he has something going wrong in his technique right now. Every miss has been wide right and it seems to come off his foot wrong, not like it hooks in the air. I do think he'll be fine though. I think the 2 misses early in the season (the 2 51 yarders) messed with his head a bit. I thought it was a mistake to ask that of him back to back and right out of the gate but hey, what do I know.

U want to get rid of him, soooo....
Name a replacement! I know u not gonna just cut a pro bowl kicker and leave the position void.....

It's silly how fast people want guys cut but never even put in effort to name a potential replacement.

i agree, can you imagine if this was the steelers and NOT the browns? pathetic
this..if he missed 2 FGs against the Steelers everyone on this board would be out to get him. He's a 1 year wonder, and theres always a kicker you can sign

If we had replaced all the players on the Ravens whose heads have been called for on this board , Ozzie would have to come on here to invite us all to tryouts so he could find enough warm bodies to field a team.

It's somebody new every week. Unreal.

Pagano, and Suggs would be the only original Ravens left.

Nah .. I remember the calls for Suggs' head because he was a slacker /dogging it and just didn't try hard enough. Think that was two years ago, during contract talks especially.

I think all you'd have left is Pagano, the Ravens' Cheerleaders and maybe the band ... anybody got beef with the band?

he's had a few rough games...his FG completion % is horrible

It only takes 1 rough game in the playoffs...and every point counts man, unless our offense kicks into another gear and we just start blowing people out every week

Oh sure cut Billy.....

only if we can get SeaBass...and the Raiders aren't going to let that happen, of course.

Seriously...were you watching the game yesterday??? Did you see the swirling goalpost flags??? *smh*

TV didn't do the weather justice. I'll give him a pass this game. But if it happens again.. there's an issue.

This isn't like David Reed, you can't just put anyone out there kicking fg's. Cundiff is locked in on a long contract, there's no other option. He'll bounce back!

(The smell of Cleveland alone would take me off my game without the bad weather lmao)

Actually, yes. More beef then I have with most of the team. Tons of respect for the band that would not die, but they are awful now. And the halftime show on thanksgiving was monumentally bad. Coming for someone who marched for them in high school...that's a problem.
Counting today, how many under 50 yarders has he missed in 12 games? 2? 3? Everything else is over 50 yards. He has never been a good 50+ yard kicker and the Ravens know that (he will miss 4 for every 1 he makes at 50+). The question becomes, why do they continue to try and make those kicks? Most of them aren't even in close to ideal conditions (I still harp on that 53 yarder attempt into the open end of CenturyLink Field against Seahawks as the most ridiculous attempt this year).

You also realize that points-wise he is the #3 kicker in the NFL so far this season and has been money up to 49 yards all year, right? Take away those kicking attempts that should never even have been called for and we aren't even having this conversation.
He is paid to make those 50yarders. No one in their right mind would pay a kicker that can only make short field goals for 15million dollars for 5 long years. He said it himself that his going to continually improve on the 50yarders(i forgot which article, but it was posted earlier after titans game), and im sure his agent barked on Ozzie on how valuable he is to ravens for him to earn that kind of money.

Fact of the matter is, is that now he is a 76% pct kicker compare to his last years 90%. He should be improving, and should be honing his skills, but he has not...he has regressed by a large portion.

And it is not just about his salary and his stats. Baltimore Ravens are built to have close games(defense led game with heavy running), time has shown that every single kick matters(jags, titans, seattle, cardinals, browns, cinci, and last pitts game). He NEEDs to be clutch for us. We will need him to be even better than last year for us to beat the likes of Patriots, Steelers,Packers in future.

He frustrates me.

Lately he has not been booming them out on kickoffs either so what is he really worth?

He's expendable IMO

While I'm by no means at all an advocate of cutting/getting rid of Cundiff, your argument is flawed for these reasons: 1) Cundiff is a veteran Pro Bowl type player; 2) last week he was just as bad without winds; 3) a good kicker has to make those kicks, no matter the weather (that means all out blizzard, hurricane, dust storm, etc.)
Kicking in rain and a strong wind is just about impossible to be good from 30 yards let alone 50. I would give Billy a break this past Sunday.

just curious did no one else notice the gusting winds and the POURING DOWN RAIN during the game?
Or the horrible field conditions between the hash marks? I suspect the slippery footing had more to do with Cundiff's misses than the wind did.

The uprights were rocking in the wind. Cundiff was kicking from the right hash (the hard hash for right footed kickers) with the wind blowing from left to right.

Cundiff had a bad game in bad weather, but he is still our guy. Just be patient and he will prove himself worthy of this play-off bound team.

Lol. Then none of us would last on the team because the current players would be the ones on forums criticizing us to be cut every play lol

Be like that movie The Replacements with Keanu Reeves..
