i knew this would come up. i know he is a pro kicker and all, but the conditions werent too favorable. Slippery and windy are the best for kicking field goals. anyways i hope billy can pick his game up because he has been pretty reliable in the past

Counting today, how many under 50 yarders has he missed in 12 games? 2? 3? Everything else is over 50 yards. He has never been a good 50+ yard kicker and the Ravens know that (he will miss 4 for every 1 he makes at 50+). The question becomes, why do they continue to try and make those kicks? Most of them aren't even in close to ideal conditions (I still harp on that 53 yarder attempt into the open end of CenturyLink Field against Seahawks as the most ridiculous attempt this year).

You also realize that points-wise he is the #3 kicker in the NFL so far this season and has been money up to 49 yards all year, right? Take away those kicking attempts that should never even have been called for and we aren't even having this conversation.

In his defense, the weather was a factor today. He does need to work on his kicks over 50 yds. though.
And his kicks from the right hatch mark. I believe every kick he missed is from over there.

Smh lol. Like we could find any better kicker in free agency. Hes a top 5 kicker in the nfl dude. It was raining today and on the road against a division rival. Thats tough conditions for any kicker. Were just all spoiled because we had Matt Stover for so long

He has to kick in bad weather games. If Baltimore gets home field in the post season there is a possibility the weather isn't going to be favorable. It might not be as bad as Cleveland, but Baltimore can get some bad weather.

I think the field plays a part in it as well and M&T Bank has excellent turf compared to that messy/muddy grass the Browns have. Didn't cost us the game so I'll take it as a "live and learn" glass half full kind of approach..

I'm not worried about Billy Cundiff in the least bit. He has had his struggles this season, but there isn't much we can do about it. His number has been called in high pressure situations many times; sometimes he comes through, sometimes he doesn't.

I'd rather Harbaugh give him the opportunities to kick than go for it on 4th down or punt the ball. I trust our defense enough to hold their own, and I would rather have a high percentage field goal kick rather than a low percentage 4th down conversion.

Besides, look at his stats by breakdown:

Home: 16/16; hasn't attempted a 50+ yder at home yet this season

Away: 9/15 total....1/6 with 50+ YDs, 2/3 for 40-49 YDs

(I'm guessing these stats don't include todays misses, so add 2 misses, 1 from 40-49, 1 from 30-39)

Notice the 50+ YD he did make was against Pittsburgh at Heinz field, not an easy place to kick.

All in all, he is now 26/34 on the year, with 5 misses coming when we have been ahead, 1 miss coming when we have been tied, and 2 misses when we were playing from behind.

Which games has he missed in, you ask? Cleveland (2), St. Louis (2), Jacksonville (1), Seahawks (2), and Steelers (1)

I guess you could say his misses against Jax and Sea cost us the games, but as always, you can't chalk up a loss to one guy.

Now, I am not one who reads too much into stats. But Cundiff is a great kicker. I trust him come January to carry our team in high pressure situations. Believe in Cundiff! He will solve his right hash kick woes soon enough!!!

Anything else that is noteworthy? - He is 6/6 in 4th quarter FGs

for everyone saying he missed due to the weather.......i would agree if the kicks were 45+yds......he missed two very make-able fgs regardless of the weather....its no excuses......he barley made the first XP attempt

Not yet, i say give him another chance.

You would think the Offense would try and get him positioned more to the left side since every single miss is to the Right.

Also Cundiff is a Draw kicker (starts right and spins back to the left ,center)

Im not trying to make excuses for Billy but its pretty hard to put spin on the ball when its Soaking wet, heck it was a catagory 4 out there today in cleveland, lol

It is hard to put spin on the ball when it is soaking wet, but your right, no excuses. I think the offense needs to get him in better position for the FG too, more to the left (looking at the uprights) since ALL of his misses are to the right. (and when they are to the right, the ball has no spin, so it wouldnt even go back to center anyways.

This guy is getting worse by every week. He is absolutely NOTHING like he was last year, and definately is not living up to his contract. I knew it was not good to sign him for such a huge contract for a journeyman that wasnt picked up by anyone for 2years then once he has 1year, we sign him to +5m p/year contract. Billy needs to GO.
Okay, say we release him. Who do we sign ?
We need a kicker?
Dont say Stover, he said more than once he is done.

He is cut he is gone, you got your wish.

Who is our kicker....

Even Matt Stover in the post game show was sticking up for his saying that stadium is SUPER tough (his words) more so under those conditions.

LOLwut? Are you saying our offense should change their play calling to help Cundiff's field goals? No. Cundiff has one job. Kick the dang ball. It's not the offenses job to get the kicker in good position for field goals. Obviously they should score, but getting Cundiff in the best possible position is NOT their job. It's their job to get a touchdown, and its his job to kick the dang ball if they fail.

its really not that unheard of to for the offense to get the ball over to the desired hash mark. That said he SHOULD be a bit more effective from either.

Yeah, at the end of game to seal the victory. Not in the middle of the game :)

In certain situations, yes. When the game is on the line, and its a FG game with 30 seconds left, yes. But when you have a lead, or there's a considerable amount of time left, heck no.

Houston. he made 5 of 5. 3 of those are 40 to 49. he helped us a lot in this game. He has helped more than hurt us. Kickers arent always perfect. never perfect. Even matt stover missed some! cmon people. We still one today. Lets move on. He won't go.

Cleveland is a notoriously bad field and the weather today didn't make it any easier. That said, he HAS to get better - we've been talking about his misses far too much this season.

well he did miss 2 but still i mean you try kicking a ball in 25 mph wind and with all big huge lineman coming staight at you i could not do it but then again we could use a younger kicker.

What does a younger kicker have to do with anything? He's, what 32 I think? That's still young for kickers, lol.

If you aren't worried about Billy you must not care about winning football games in the playoffs

I'm very concerned, this is not a good situation...we are going for it on 4th down around the 30 yard line because what have we got to lose, we either go for it and dont make it or kick a FG and dont make it..what are we gonna do PUNT it for 10 yards?
