Yall are crazy. Two of the fumbles he had in Seattle was caused by hitting another teammate. There was almost zero blocking forcing him to try to make a play in the pile. I know he could've took a touchback but come on.. he is a playmaker! Playmakers always try to make plays. He has always been good at getting big returns. I say it's time to give him another shot, if not, then who? Zibby? -__-

Ok. I guess I'm wrong. I'm foolish to support a young Raven, and I guess if you make a few mistakes, you should be banished and cut from the team. None of us here are coaches, and David Reed is still on the team, for a reason.
I never said cut him. I agree that we are not coaches, and since he has not been cut then some actual coach must still think he has potential. But those same coaches have not put him back in as the return guy. For a reason I suppose. Maybe that reason is he was the direct reason for us losing the Seahawks game. A game we could ill afford to lose. I'm just guessing, of course.

I neither love nor hate players, I love wins and hate losses. Whatever leads to the Ws and leads away from the Ls is good with me.

I hate all of our regular kick/punt returners and the ones who are fairly good and/or have potential (T. Smith or Webb) are too valuable to put back there. I'd be in favor of putting LaQuan back there.

Reed was great until his string of mistakes.

Football (like life) isn't fair. If your only on the team to play ST and you fumble the ball 3 times in 2 games and can't even be a serviceable gunner on punts then that's your career in baltimore. We aren't gonna cut him this late in the year but you can tell the coaches don't have confidence in him. His role has gotten smaller and smaller since Seattle. Sometimes your best ins't good enough.

He'll get a 2nd chance at returning.. The Browns might need a returner if they get Lebron'd by Josh Cribbs lol

I think if he fumbles again, take him off of returning kicks for good. Let's face it, he's proven over the last year and some change that he is the best kickoff returner we have. I wish he'd be smarter about taking a toucback when the ball is too far instead of taking a chance and being stopped short of the 20 (this drives me insane). But he's not the only guy on this team let alone the league that does that. I think the very worst you can get out of it is one turnover in your own territory, and while that sort of thing has costly potential, it would happen once more at the most. I say we have little to lose.

I think he deserves another chance.
Honestly, he's still the best KR on the team and gives us the best chance to score a ST TD. He just needs to work on holding on to the ball.

In a situation if we were leading someone like the Colts by more than 20 points and we were receiving the 2nd half kickoff, that would be a situation I'd let Reed return kicks in. When we have a big lead, preferably late in the game.

For real. I'd LOVE to see us cut him, and he becomes a beast of a WR in the future for another team.

It's only been 2 games. Assuming he doesn't get shot this Sunday ( 3rd game then ). I don't think so yet.... If no other player makes an impact on kickoff return within the next 2 games ( this week and next week ) then he can be worked in for a few returns.

Yeah...that's not likely.

Sure, he could be a beast returner for another team, but I highly doubt he'd be the next Cris Carter or Wes Welker for another team at WR.

For me it's not the fear of him making another costly mistake if we put him back there again, it's that he always seems to play with a bit of a bad attitude. I really don't think that's the kind of guy who will get the chance to stick around for long under Harbs.

Hauschka is playing well..
He is, and that was my point. Steve is under much less pressure to perform in Seattle and maybe the same change would be good for Reed. Just as Hauschka got a bad case of nerves after missing critical FGs for us, I'm afraid the same will hold true for Reed after fumbles and other ST mistakes.

At this point in the season, we can't afford the risks that come with David Reed. Heck, I'd take the ball on the 20 on every kick off rather than the chance of giving the opponent the ball with excellent field position through a fumble. The way our D is playing, this is one risk we don't need to take to succeed.

That would be a "safe trial", but I'm afraid it wouldn't prove that he could perform under pressure.

Little to lose? Seriously? Lets be honest here. The chances of the Steelers losing another game are pretty slim. They beat the teams they are supposed to beat and that is all that is left on their schedule. So if we lose just one more game then we lose the division, which means no home field, which would probably tke us out of SB contention. Thats a lot to lose.

A lot people thought Clayton was trash til he was paired up with a rookie qb and was going to lead his team in probably all receiving stats til he was injured.

I think David Reed's head isn't on straight. It doesn't matter what you do, he's not going to get it together. I honestly think the only way he could start getting it together is to get cut and see what that feels like. Maybe then he'll start making the changes in life necessary to succeed as an NFL athlete. His attitude seems to be an even bigger problem than his fumbling. Championship teams don't have guys like that on their roster.

Again, if this is the NFL, it's a business, blah blah blah. The truth is, if he was GOOD, I would have a different attitude. If he contributed SOMETHING, fine. He doesn't. Let Zibby return kicks. Heck, let him just take a knee!! I'll take it on the 20 every single time. We're moving the ball between the 20s well enough for that. I'm so sick of having to start at the 14 because the ball is getting returned from eight yards deep. If we're going to upgrade that position, we'll have to go draft it next year. Fine. This year, we just don't have an expendable speedy playmaker to use on special teams, and that's ok--even those guys are getting killed shy of the 20 far more than they're running them back.

Lets not forget he was one of the best in the NFL last year.

Hopefully he gets a chance to redeem himself today.

I voted no, but after considering I think it might be time to let the guy prove he can go out there and strut his stuff for the rest of the season sans stupid mistakes.
