Realistic Chances That Cam Cameron Is Gone After This Season?

10 posts in this topic

If I haven't made it clear by now, I want Cam Cameron gone. And I think a lot of fans and players feel the same way as well. A lot of people, including myself, wanted him gone after last season, but the explanation I got was that the labor dispute and uncertainty about the season made keeping him a necessity. Well, Pagano didn't have an offseason to work with and yet our defense is much better than it was last year, so that argument is void. From what I understand it was John Harbaugh's wish to keep Cam as OC that saved his job last year; the front office was considering making a change, but left it up to John. Cam got everything he wanted - he wanted Al Saunders and Jim Zorn gone, and they went. Now Joe looks more inconsistent than he ever has in his career, and it's painfully obvious that he doesn't think much of Cam. Joe has publicly voiced support for almost every one of his offensive coaches: Saunders, Zorn, Hue Jackson, but never once have I heard him say anything supporting Cam Cameron. He's been political in avoiding answering questions about his relationship with Cam. Most of the other offensive players haven't been as political, voicing frustrations on the air and in the media, and the defensive players have been even more honest in their opinions. I really feel like the only person who wanted Cam back was John Harbaugh. If this is the case, and we make the playoffs again only to fall flat in the divisional round like we have the last 2 years (and it's obviously the offense's fault - like it has been the last 2 years), what are the chances that we get a new offensive coordinator in Baltimore next year?

Anything less than a Super Bowl appearance will probably get him replaced. He has at least gotten the offense back to somewhat of a balance and being successful but a mediocre OC could do that as well. We need an OC to really take this offense to the next level and maximize their potential.

How many threads about Cameron do we need. That argument isnt void. We got a new defensive coordinator because we had to get a new one. Plus Chuck has been with the team for awhile. We didnt know how our defense would be with the lockout coming. Just like we wouldn't know what our offense would be like with the lockout if we had a new offensive coordinator. Somebody coming from the outside of the team might have taken longer to get his offense in place. We might have not beaten the Steelers in the first game of the season. I also want Cam gone after this season, but I believe that keeping Cam for this season was the right decision because of the lockout.

I know there are a ton of threads saying "fire him", he's terrible, whatever, I just have this sinking feeling that we're stuck with him as long as this team keeps winning, and I hope someone can tell me I'm wrong. John will say "But look, we're winning," and he'll point to the fact that we're tops in the league in scoring, without bothering to mention that when it comes to play selection when it counts i.e. when we're down and need to score, we've failed a few times this season. It doesn't take into account that Cam really wants this to be a passing team, and the only reason he dialed it back was because he was pressured from the players. And it doesn't take into account that Cam refuses to utilize the players we have on our roster effectively. I worry that "the bottom line" is all that will be pointed to, and yes, while the stats say we've been scoring a lot of points, they disguise the fact that our offense, in my opinion, isn't really effective when every part of it isn't working properly.

I believe if we don't make it to the Superbowl he is gone. I don't believe the talk that Harbaugh keeps him around, because they're friends. This is a business and John knows that.

He is not going anywhere. Every chance he gets Harbs tries to give him the "credit" for every win. Sometimes deserved but sometimes we've won in spite of Cam. And I notice there is never any mention of him when his play calling has clearly cost us a game.

Harbaugh will never ever ever hold Cam responsible nor get rid of him.

He's not going to throw any coaches or players under the bus, nor should he.
