Will Ray Lewis Retire At The End Of This Season?

31 posts in this topic

We have all read the writing on the wall. Ray Lewis may be hanging up his cleats at the end of the year. Hopefully, we can bring home the Lombardi Trophy one more time by beating the Packers or 49ers in the Super Bowl. Now, along comes this nagging turf toe injury. Say it ain't so, Ray. He has been the greatest linebacker in the history of the game. His training regiment and study of game film is rivaled by very few in the NFL. No one in Baltimore wants him to retire. Let's say we win the big dance and he lives up to his promise to retire. Would you like to see Ray stay around in a coaching capacity? I sure would.

Yeah, i'd say that it is a foregone conclusion. That being said, I hope that the 52 banner is hung immediatly at M&T. I'll sure be shedding some tears during the HOF induction in Canton. Let's enjoy watching this great man play while we still can. Ray will join Johnny U, Cal, Jim Palmer, Brooks, and Eddie Murray as a legend of baltimore sports.

I think Ray understands that every year since Harbaugh's been here, the Ravens have gotten better, and in my opinion, closer to being superbowl champions. I think, especially if a change were made and a better offensive system was put into place, he'd come back for one more year. Our offense has been totally inconsistent this year; imagine what we'd look like if we had a consistent offense? We'd be Superbowl champions. Honestly I believe that the only way Ray retires this year is if A) we win it all, or B) he's just physically unable to do it - which seems impossible, even at his age.

I think he will, we have the personnel to win the super bowl this year. I'm not to scared however because of McClain taking his spot and the amount of hype that Ray will get from the nation when he retires.

I can see him retiring if we win it all but I also can see him coming back for one more year similar to John Elway and maybe we can have Ray leave the way Elway did, back to back Super Bowl wins.

We win this year he will end it on top no doubt. If not, he more then likely gives it a go next year. Also, I dont see Ray coaching when he hangs them up, or possibly ever. Hes said he wants to watch his kid in college and then go from there. Ed Reed is the one I have no doubt will be a coach on this team, and an excellent one at that.

the toe injury changes things a lot.

In my opinion if we win the Super Bowl he is done.

If we loose or do not make it and his toe gets better, he will be back. (obviously if his toe does not get better he is done )

That said no way in H.E. double hokey sticks does he NOT play in the Super Bowl. I would even say no way he does not play in the play offs.

When he retires I dont think he will ever be a stranger at M&T or Owings Mills. He will be back, often but it will be some time if ever he is on staff.

It would be great to see Ed as a coach. With the love he has for the game, he will undoubtedly be a good one at that position.

I sure do hope Ed gets a ring and Ray his second. That way, when these two legends do retire, they have something more to show for it.

...Besides NFL records and massive respect from fans and the NFL community.

Turf toe is hard to come back from, but at least Ray is taking the right approach by resting. The LFW a few days ago had a good little piece on Ogden recognizing that same thing about his toe.

i hope that the Ravens can get that SB ring this season. IF they do...Ray will hang'em up! now...with that being said...i feel four (4) things need to happen:

1. Ray will enter the Ring of Honor

2. Ray's #52 Jersey will be retired

3. Remove the J. Unitas statue from out front of M&T Bank Stadium...place it somewhere inside the stadium under a protective glass case with a very nice bronze plague inscription to remember the long standing tradition and accomplishments of the Baltimore Colts from waaaaay back in the day which was the old guard.

4. Erect a "new" statue out front of M&T of....RAY ANTHONY LEWIS the greatest MLB to ever play the game and for his accomplishments as a Baltimore Raven. He represents...the new guard!

Hes not stopping until we win it all. I mean hes been playing forever and thats the only thing keeping him going. We win and he retires on top which would be the story book ending of one of the best player in nfl history, ( best defender no doubt)

If we win the SB, absolutely.
If we don't, he might come back for 1 or 2 more years if we get say a Vontaze/Dont'a/Te'o to mentor them into a LB than can take over the defense (or at least I hope he will).

This is what I'm hoping. If we don't win, at the end of the season he goes up to Harbaugh, Ozzie and Steve, and flat out says, "If you don't Can Cam Cameron I'm going to retire." I guarantee you if he says that, our offense will have a much smarter coordinator next year.

My personal opinion is is depends on what your team does this season. If you somehow win it all then I believe he will go out on top.. if not I can see him giving it another two years.

Turf Toe is serious. It already shortened the career of our first overall pick so i can see it doing the same for our 2nd overall pick.

I would love to see Ray Lewis in the Hall of Fame. Still, I would prefer to have him back next year to continue to pass on his knowledge to the younger players. I guess that the idea of him coaching would be a stretch. Let him enjoy his time in Florida with his family. I'm sure that even if he did retire this year he'd be back on any given Sunday to sit in the owner's box and enjoy himself. I bought his rookie card when the Ravens drafted him. What an incredible career!

When Ray hangs them up, that will be a sad day in Bmore. He has been the heart and soul of this team for many years. Don't know when he will say he's done with football. I just know whenever that day comes, 5 years later I will be in Canton to watch a first ballot hall of fame player get inducted.

Ray Lewis is not just a symbol of the Ravens. He is also a symbol of the NFL. With such a status I could only see Ray retiring at the end of a season due to an injury. If an injury is not a factor I cannot see Ray just saying I am done at the end of a season. I think the Ravens and even the NFL would like to see him go on a last victory dance type of retirment. I think we will be given "This is my last year" notice first.
like Cal did with the Orioles. The Fairwell Season. Players like Ray Lewis can bring in extra money for the league to sell out crowds even in other teams stadiums of people wanting to get one more chance to see an icon play.
Ray would even get a standing ovation in Pitsburgh if know it was his last game ever played there.

This, hell they'd probably broadcast some of it in other stadiums and all 30 other teams will be having a standing ovation
