I don't want a new Defensive Coordinator but what if the Ravens find themselves in that position again?

Most notably, the Ravens have lost Defensive Coordinators Marvin Lewis to the Bengals and Rex Ryan to the Jets in the past. Chuck Pagano might be the next hot name out there to take over a team given his success in getting the Ravens defense back on track in a season where there was very little prep time due to the lockout.

So far the Jaguars will be in the hunt for a new head coach for next season and possibly a few other teams. The Vikings, Colts, Buccaneers, Dolphins, Eagles, Giants, Chiefs, Chargers, and Rams to me are not out of the realm of needing new head coaches.

I hope Chuck Pagano wants to stick around with the Ravens for a while but all coaches have that dream of being the head coach and you can't really blame them for wanting to pursue it. I'm too lazy to go down the list of all the coaches the Ravens have lost to other teams but it's been more than just Defensive Coordinators. I think we all know the names.

I don't think he will get offered a HC job yet, it's his first season as D-Coordinator. I think after 3 years then he could become a real hot name. But right now I think the Bengals D-Co.. Becomes a hot name again like 2 years ago.

I also hope that owners of other teams think the same way so we can hold onto him as our DC for a few more seasons.

If he does go I hope he takes Cam with him as o coordinator. Regardless stop trying to scare us, hopefully he doesn't go anywhere and I doubt he gets a job off 1 year as d coor. He was a pretty good secondary coach as well but I hope he waits having seen what happens to most of the coordinators who jump ship early. Actually most of the people who left had long careers just mediocre teams.

I think hes safe for at least 1 more year.

But man could you guys imagine Pagano gone, and Cam still being here next year? I get deeply depressed thinking about it.

Sorry, my intention is not to scare anyone. Just thought it was an interesting question...and a real one to think about.

Clarence Brooks hands down, and it's not even close. Look at the job he has done with the D-line this year, and the players would run through a wall for the guy.

But my bet is that Pagano sticks for a couple or a few more years and cements his status as one of the very best D-coordinators in the league.

No way, you have to keep Pagano, give him a nice pay raise. I'm highly impressed by his schemes because he's created a stellar pass rush with pretty much the same personnel as Greg Mattison.

Cam Cameron seems to go in the opposite directIon with the more talent he gets the worse the offense becomes.

I completely agree that we have to hold onto Pagano as long as we can. I'm not suggesting we get rid of him at all. But if a team wants to interview him for a head coaching position...that is something out of the Ravens control.

At this point, I think Pagano would get offered big $$ to coach another teams defense before a HC offer from 1 yr. there are a lot of ex-HC out there for teams to get. Cowher Billick, Gruden, Del Rio... Mora
Hopefully teams look at them before Pagano.

The Ravens are allowed to 'block' a lateral transfer. The only way a team can steal him is to either offer a promotion or for the Ravens to agree to let him go.

There is only one owner who I think is crazy enough to hire a guy after one season as a coordinator, and that's Dan Snyder. But Snyder loves big names, and there is no bigger name than Mike Shannahan, so I don't think a change will be made. Besides, Pagano is a smart guy. He knows that as much as his name could be tossed around for a HC position now, if he stays for 3-4 more seasons, the defense continues to look the way it does now, AND the Ravens win a Superbowl, his stock will only rise.

There is definitely some interest around the league in Pagano with the way he has revitalized the Baltimore defense. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets asked to come in and interview with a couple teams in the offseason. Ultimately, I think we'll have him one more season before he gets snatched up as some other team's HC, and I can't really say I would blame him for taking an HC offer as early as this offseason if one came up. Being the head coach of an NFL team is pretty much the top of the food chain in coaching terms; it's what everyone aspires to be. Pags will get there sooner or later, but we all know it's gonna be sooner.

i love him to be the next leBau and just be loyal and stay for years and years and years, if he keeps this up...

Exactly what I was going to say until I scrolled down and saw this. I hope Pagano stays and keep the tradition of nasty, dominating, violent defense in Baltimore. I can't imagine another year of a Mattison type defense.

This was brought up in another RAVENS forum, and like i said in that one. I would be utterly p.o.ed, beyond disbelief. I honestly think thats whats keeping us from getting multiple SB rings, i really do. Name another Team that looses Coordinators to coaching jobs as much as we do. Its unreal, their should be some kind of Contract restriction honestly, i know that would be hurting the Coordinator but honestly i dont care. Its happening way too much imo. No other team has had this problem like we have had. They fire their coaches as much as we lose them to coaching jobs.

Did Del rio coach for 1 yr then get the job in Jax. And if anything, thats where Pag. would go.

If/When Pagano is hired as a head coach, Make Ray the next Defensive Coordinator

I think he would start as a LBers coach first, but he said he would take off for a while to spend time with his kids before he would even consider being a coach.

As long as Reed and Lewis still playing, Pagano isn't going anywhere, even if offered HC job elsewhere. Reed and Pagano is like father and son; no father would abandon his son period.......

Dean Pees likely would be the candidate. The only guy I can think of with 34 defense experience and coordinator experience.

I thought about Ray as Coach as well but He did say he want to spent time with the kids and Ray Lewis Jr is a heck of highschool RB from what I've read on scouting sites...

Greg Mattison was OK as a defensive guy. He kept the Ravens in the top 3 in most defensive categories so it's not like he was horrible, just not as dominate as we are used to seeing. He's completely turned around what was an absolutely atrocious Michigan Defense with only 1 new recruiting class in his first season.

Makes me think to believe he was more suited for the college game instead of the pros, probably deals better with younger guys instead of professionals.
