Our "Free Agents" Aren't Faring So Well

33 posts in this topic

I just noticed after seeing Gaither get cut really none of our FA losses has prospered with the exception of Willis who is having a good season and should break 1,000 yds rushing. The other players have either had no impact, been hurt or just disappeared all together. Examples:

Gaither - Cut
Stallworth - One noteworthy catch against the Cowboys
Chester - Nothing
Wilson - Nothing, Zero picks
Mason - We all know his deal two teams since
Gregg - Not heard from
Heap - Injury bug has a grip on him
McClain - Same situation in KC (arguably worse)....

In hindsight what do you think about the decision to let these guys walk???? Once again Ozzie and Co. showed us why they control personnel and not us lol.

Yes, alot of us were upset about Carr over Wilson. I didn't care after I found out he wanted to be there all along though. I still don't want Carr though.

I liked Carr over Wilson but after this season? I think we can probably do without Carr. He has been mostly injured and he got kind of abused that Titans game (along with everyone else in the secondary). Carr is still mostly solid. He never lets up a huge play but he also never seems to prevent anything.

Josh Wilson and Willis McGahee are the only two contributing much to their new teams. Both are doing a pretty good job I think. But neither was that big of a loss. McGahee had to go. Wilson we might have kept if it wasn`t for Washington.

I always doubted the keeping of Wilson. I knew we wanted to get bigger in the secondary, then when Pagano later expressed his desire for big, physical corners it made all the more sense.

More proof, as if we needed any, that Ozzie knows exactly what he's doing. Plus, he had no real control over the fact that Wilson (the only one of the list I still feel would upgrade our team) wanted to go home to Washington.

That was what drove me crazy...he'd play 5 yards off a WR on 3rd and 4. I think he's served his purpose and its time to part ways.

Bit harsh on Gregg, what little I've seen of him he's playing well

He blew up a goalline rush earlier this season, forget which game.
Has supporters on the Chiefs message boards

Yes his name is not resounding around the league but he's met expectations imo

Yea just another example of how well the Ravens can get the most out of players and letting go of guys who do not play up to their expectations. As for the guys who seem to be doing ok I would say Wilson, nothing spectacular but he is a solid corner. Landry seems to be doing ok on the Jags D, and Willis. However these guys were not coming back to the Ravens no matter what, Landry and Willis were getting too much money, and Wilson wanted to play for the Skins.

I think i read somewhere that Stallworth was cut from the skins a few weeks ago too lol. But anyway yeah, i'm glad we are doing perfectly fine without them. The people we brought in easily replaced the ones we lost.

I wanted Wilson because of his speed, which looked to complement Jimmy Smith very well. However, we all knew how that turned out... and even though I was upset about Wilson leaving at the time.. I'm ok with it now that I look back on it, and the team is doing an excellent job in our secondary this year. I thought Wilson would be our game changing type corner, while Smith was the lockdown type corner. However, Webb has stepped it up (I expected that to happen with a year's recovery from his injury and Pagano/Austin, the DB coach). He looks like a potential Charles Woodson, whereas Jimmy has Aso like potential once he learns the coverages more and more, and gets those Rookie jitters out of the way. Imagine that.... Webb (Woodson) on the outside, Smith (Aso) on the other, and Williams (Cromartie) in the nickel/outside when we decide to put Webb in the slot.... wow, just wow.

He was cut by the skins but he was called back. He scored his 1st TD a few weeks ago since being reinstated.

This has always been the pattern guys leave the ravens and disappear. For most part even Bart Scott has performed he just has talked up production as David Harris claims that defense.

I think LeRon McClain situation is the most ironic because all he did last yr was run around lobbying for more carries as if he is a productive running back... ( the season where he had 900 yds he ran behind L.Neal true blocking FB ) that was because of injuries.. Lol.
So after 2 yrs of whining he leaves thinking he gonna get big free agent contract signs one yr deal has seen less touches than ever before!!! Even with KC top RB out for season. Lol

I agree but I think for the most part he just wanted that big Free Agent contract and that the more carries would come with it since he expected to be paid like "Top RB." Now he is sitting in KC, like you said getting even less carries while the Ravens are on their way to the playoffs and the Chiefs are going nowhere. It still amazes me that seeing he signed a 1 year deal, that we could have tried keeping him a little more money on a 1 year deal or offered him a 2 year deal to stay in Baltimore. I bet he wishes he had stayed.

Looking at our others, I don't think Josh Wilson would have had a chance to start here considering at the time, Foxworth was coming back from injury, we had drafted Webb a couple years back, and drafted Jimmy Smith this year. Wilson went to a place where he had a shot at starting so I don't blame him but I do wish we did keep Wilson. It was time for Mason, Heap and Gregg to go. We had drafted young guys as their replacements and it was time to just let the young guys play and not be on the bench anymore. You could say it worked out quite well for us, Dickson and Pitta are excellent Tight Ends, Terrence Cody is coming along great at NT and Torrey Smith has exceeded expectations for us.

Ravens are 8-3 and looking to be in the playoffs, while I believe all of the guys who left us this past off-season will be watching the Ravens on their couches in January.

All great points, and I was all for the younger guys getting playing time now.
I also wanted Josh Wilson over Carr but I had been hoping Cary Williams would get PT after his preseason last yr never happen after 2 game suspension...
McClain if the team felt we needed him for short yardage I wouldn't have had a problem with it but I never understood why people were ranting like McClain was consistent runner. I think McClain envisioned himself like Jerome Bettis, IronHead Heyward, or Michael Turner. When he just isn't. He is closer to Greg Jones. Or a better Ron Dayne. Lol

Gregg has improved from his last season here, but ultimately we didn't lose too much with Cody. Wilson was the only real loss.

I am SOOOOOO happy we didnt offer him anything to stay. He did very little and was a headache with his lobbying to get carries and spitting on players and whatnot.

I said that when there was still a chance of us keeping him and had people raging at me (Not you, obviously). Now he's gone people are free to call him out. I'm a fan of the Ravens (and most/all of our players) but people couldn't seem to fathom that I'm allowed to not like a player on the roster (with valid reason(s))

The guy comes accross as a punk and, let's be totally honest here, he isn't that good.

Yeah, I've not been a fan of his at all since about 2009. Not my kind of guy...Too involved with his Twitter, lobbying for carries, spitting on players and just his overall demeanor don't sit well with me. Then there is his completely jaded view of his worth as a player that makes me laugh!!

Yes, I'm actually happy for Willis. I still liked him and didn't want to see him go although I understood it was a mutual business decision.

Mcgahee (probably spelled wrong) is doing a nice job for Denver, but hes just doing what he did for us and Williams was way cheaper so I dont mind that loss, and all the others have done absolutely nothing for their teams, great job Ozzie!! Another job well done
