Gaither Healthy Enough To Play, But Cut...

26 posts in this topic

Jared Gaither has been cut by the Chiefs. He's been healthy enough to play, which was more than we could say for his last season in Baltimore.

As a potential franchise offensive tackle, the Ravens had to let him go because he wasn't worth the contract he was expected to get. But now, he can be had for cheap.

Sure, there's potential his back acts up again. And sure, there's the chance he can't return to his high-level of play his rookie season. But man, that's guy is quality depth with starting talent if healthy.

I know people have complained the running game hasn't been up to their standards. Well, this might be a shot worth taking to improve that.

I know Michael Oher hasn't exactly been the same since Gaither left, which might have nothing to do with Gaither at all... but it's still the case.

Anyone think there is just no reason to add Gaither for depth? Would it "ruin the chemistry" of the team?

All I know is, I'd hate to see him blocking for someone like Tom Brady, who has had some injuries to his offensive line this year, if the Ravens meet them in the playoffs.

Not only is there "no reason" to add him, there are several good reasons not to.

1) That ship has sailed. Believe me, the Ravens don't want him back.
2) He played like dog poop for the Chiefs.

why would we bring back a guy that was cut by the chiefs. even when he was healthy he played pretty poorly over there. also Oher has steadily improved his game this season and our line is finally getting some consistency.

Yep. His tenure with this team is done. I know a lot of people envision him being the dominant force of the past. But he's not. We were the original hipsters that gave up on him and we surely won't be the last. Who knows perhaps he will have a revival, it just won't be here.

Nope. He's a bum, I don't even think he likes football..... It was soo funny how people around here wanted him back soo badly...thinking that he was a Pro Bowl LT.... After his spinal cord concussion, he wasnt the same.

I miss Gaither. Dude was beastly for that period of time.

I wouldn't be against seeing what he has in training camp during the offseason or something like that.

No way, we already cut our losses with him. Imagine this scenario. We sign him to a cheap deal, Mckinnie misses a couple games with an injury. Gaither steps in and dominates for those games. We put off drafting a LT for the future thinking we can rely on Gaither. When McKinney leaves, Gaither is given the starting role, then Same Old Sht.

Didn't he kinda cost the Chefs the game when the false start was called on him? Palko threw that last pick on a 1st and 15.

That's what the Yahoo article is implying: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-chiefs-moves

If that's one of the big reasons why they cut him, then when will the Lions be cutting Suh? :-P

St Louis might give him a shot. They've taken a few ex-Raven linemen, most recently Mattison and they're trying hard to get things working.

I'm thinking of the off-season though and bringing him to camp, not signing him right now

I believe in second chances, that said it would take a lot of things for him to come back. He'd have to drop his scumbag agent and apologize publicly to Oz and the coaching staff.

Just like with TO, I highly doubt that Ozzie is going to want to take another chance. Bridge is burned. Get over it people. He's not coming back.

Well, we could be facing him when we go to San Diego later this season:

Chargers placed offensive tackle Marcus McNeill on IR today due to a neck injury and claimed OT Jared Gaither.[/quote]

The Chargers don't have anything to lose by picking him up I suppose. He gets another chance in the NFL.

I wonder if Gaither will be able to play, man it would be funny watching Suggs blow him up and sack Rivers lol.

Chiefs might as well cut McClain also because he cried all that time about getting carries and even with KC playing random rbs McClain is still useless lol
