The Steelers and Mike Tomlin are once again hiding under the veil of "concussion-like symptoms" instead of just being upfront with the league and saying one of their players suffered a concussion. Troy Polamalu in this case.

I wonder how Roger Goodell feels about this with all of the the attention on player safety this season?

Hey at least they've upgraded to admitting it is "concussion like symptoms". They tried to say Ike Taylor had a "stinger" a few weeks back when everyone could clearly see he was not all there.

What I like is all this "when he took a blow to the head". Um...no. He didn't "take" a blow to the head. He tried to take out the guys knees with his head and paid for it.

Concussion-like symptoms, stingers, head injuries... anything to avoid calling it a flat-out concussion and, possibly, skirting the new league rules surrounding concussions. It doesn't change what actually happened, though; if Polamalu's out there when he hasn't fully recovered, he and the Steelers are only putting him at more risk.

Holding him out the rest of the KC game was telling. Although having him in uniform was telling, too.

It would be nice if Pittsburgh was as cautious with him as the Penguins were with Crosby.

lol, Polamalu out until October 2012.

If he cant go against the Bengals, that would be a pretty big loss for the Steelers secondary. Andy Dalton certainly wouldnt mind not having to worry about Troy lurking around.

Troy refuses to say whether he has a concussion or not. Here is an interesting quote from Troy about whether he is concerned about the long term effects.
“That’s the fear, I think, that any player faces, and that’s the fear that anybody, any individual faces — overcoming any certain fears of being a coward, you know, or letting your teammates down or turning down a hit,” Polamalu said regarding whether he’s concerned about a hit to the head that could cause long-term damage. “That’s the beautiful thing about sports, is these fears are right in your face and it’s pretty obvious if you turn them down or not. I have the fear. No question about it. But I’m willing to fight it, for sure.”
I think Troy should sit out this week just so he doesn't do any further damage. I find it funny how in this day of age where Goodell's soft league runs wild, the Steelers are going around the rules and not even taking care of their players...... interesting to think about.

Football is a dangerous sport. Huge, fast dudes colliding with each other for 3 hours every weekend. It's not easy. But, when you do get banged up, there's no shame in sitting down - especially with something as serious as a head/brain injury.

Can the league force a player to go to a designated doctor if they do not believe the team?

Just a general question, not just aimed at this case
