If You Were Coach Of The Ravens What Would Be The Biggest Change You Would Make?

74 posts in this topic

If I was coach I wouldn't call sweep plays on the 1 yard line. Run it up the gut.

Off season wise, I would probably move to the 4-3.

I would of also started Pollard from day 1

Assuming JJ and Redding are gone where would you put Kruger, Kindle and McPhee in the 4-3?

Suggs-Ngata-Cody/McPhee-Kruger
McClain-Ray-Ellerbe

Kindle needs to worry about the playbook. He wouldn't start and would only get in there on all out blitzes.

I think he was a great kick returner, up until the Seattle game.

Did you forget the kick off fumble that David Reed had the week before the Seattle game against the steelers?? if the ravens didn't recover it would have cost us that game as well.

2 games 3 fumbles (one recovered) and a 15 yard penalty. I think David Reed has had more than enough second chances this year.

I would...

Let Torrey Smith return kickoffs now that Lee Evans is back.

Reunite Antwaan Randle El with Cam so we can have another backup WR/QB/Punt Returner/Assistant Coach.

Tell Billy Cundiff to not worry about height on kickoffs and just try to boom it out of bounds.

Make Joe Flacco throw blindfolded downfield to Torrey Smith in practice until they can complete 10 passes in a row
In all seriousness I would install an offensive system that emphasizes shorter, fast-developing routes and lots of timing (and the ability of every one of our receivers to gain YAC), and most importantly, focuses on keeping TOP. If we'd tried that all year, I'd be we'd undefeated right now. I like efficient offenses that move the chains. In the San Francisco game Joe's longest completion was 22 yards, and it was one of the best games I've seen from him this year. I would, if necessary (now I'll probably get killed for this, but whatever) take Ray Rice out of the game until Joe stops throwing to him so much. Of course, it could just be that the receivers are totally covered and he has no choice, but I still don't like the QB throwing to a running back as much as Joe does, and I don't know what it is but Joe has become overly reliant on Rice, in my opinion. And I'd be making sure that all of my WRs, including David Reed and Tandon Doss, get playing time. I'm telling you the most impressive thing to me about guys like Brady, Brees, Manning, and Rodgers is that they have lots of guys who can catch passes and they use them. Since Cam runs this offense, I am blaming him for not using the guys we have properly (Plus it makes sense to me that it's Cam's fault, because he wants deep passes and neither Doss or Reed are speedy guys. I think if it were up to Cam he'd bench Boldin in favor of Lee Evans and spend all of his time dialing up 30+ yard bombs to Evans and Smith).

He isn't a bad player though. He never fumbled until those games.

Fair enough , but as a KR he is done for this year. I question his decision making of taking the ball out from that deep in the end zone . On three of the returns he pretty much only got to the 20 yard line.

If he just takes a knee on all 3 of those kick offs the Ravens likely would have won the game.

So I guess if was making any changes based on the avg kick off returns we are now seeing (18 - 22 yard line) plus the amount of fumbles and penalties I would insist that any KR that receives the ball in the end zone to take a knee.

From the games this year, the unlikley long kick off return is not worth the risk.

I would mix in the 4-3 cover2/man under in intermediate down and distance situations. Cody and Nagta at DT, Suggs and Kruger at DE.

Hire a dedicated RED ZONE Coach! I don't think any team in the NFL has one but i think it would be worth researching. We have a horrible RED ZONE capability as far as TD's are concerned. Hire this new coach and when we hit the RED ZONE the Offensive coordinator backs completely out!! It is so frustrating to watch our Offense bust their behinds to get the team down there and puff that's it - Ravens go 82 yards and get 3, Ravens go 68 yards and get 3. Won't get us through to the BIG Trophy.

Well I understand him trying to get extra yards. IT could help the team. But if he is REALLY far back in the end zone, then he should've just knee'd it.

I feel like he's still a good KR. There was no reason to take him off special teams. Everybody fumbles.

I would use 1 TE to block for the other TE and have that play run on every possession....
Also to use the offensive line to block for the running back on every running play to down-field blocking....
