MERGED: Tiebreaker With New England - #1 Seed

176 posts in this topic

Three wins and they get homefield throughout. Then they get whoever beat the Texans, and then the Steelers come to town for the AFC Championship Game.

See, I've got it all planned out. :P

Even if they lose out, it would be extremely difficult for the Ravens to miss the playoffs.

The Ravens would clinch a playoff spot if the Raiders won all three of their games. That's right, if the Raiders win out, that clinches the Ravens a playoff spot. That's how difficult it is for the Ravens to miss the playoffs at this point.

You really messed up. Everyone now expects you to reassure them about the Ravens' playoff outlook. Until they clinch and print up the tickets , you're going to be posting over and over to explain why people shouldn't be worried. A 99.8% probability is not good enough for some people , because they're sure that what can go wrong will go wrong. These are often the same people who will spend their hard-earned dollars on lottery tickets every week , and always with the certainty that they're going to hit it big.

It's generous of you to provide this service , but I'll be happy for you when everything is all locked down because I know this must be driving you nuts.

I don't think they're worried about making the playoffs...I'm sure not. What I want is that #1 seed and home-field advantage and until that's set in stone I think some of us will be a little on edge.

I think that's true for most of us. I know it is for me. Still , every week you'll keep hearing that some team besides the Ravens is currently the #1 seed in the AFC even though the Ravens keep winning , and the questions will reappear. The mass media just doesn't do a good job of explaining how week-to-week seeding positions that are based on conference records - when unequal numbers of conference games have been played by the tied teams - are meaningless.

Okay. Three more wins we get home field.
Got it.

What about first round bye?

Hmm, because of the way everyone is so smashed up at the top, it'd be really hard for the Ravens to clinch a first round bye at any point without also clinching home-field advantage. I'm not sure if there are any scenarios at all that would be possible where we could clinch a first-round bye going into week 17 without having already clinched home-field advantage.

Still three, unless the Patriots or Texans start losing games. And with their easy schedules, they might not do that.

Yeah, that was my entire point....it was a joke!

If we win out, we get #1 seed and a bye. Assumed the question was sarcasm, since you can't have one without the other - #1 seed and a bye :)

Well, the #2 seed still gets a bye. I believe that the Packers clinched a first-round bye this week, they haven't locked up the #1 seed yet, but they're guaranteed to be no worse than the #2 seed at this point.

Of course...But, like you stated as well, the possibilities are too complicated with 3 weeks left to figure out how we'd end in the #2 spot.

The Ravens and Steelers would need to lose a game and either the Texans or the Patriots would need to lose a conference game.

That is correct....not that you were asking a question, but just sayin'. Theres only an 18% chance we get the #2 seed, though.

Texans are 8-2 in the conference.

We are 7-2. They play a NFC team this week, we play the chargers. If we take care of the Chargers, we go to 8-2, same as Texans. We beat them with the head to head record having beaten them in Bmore.

We take the number 1 seed for the time being

How about this? If we win the next three games, we are the number 1 seed. Let's just focus on each team at a time, win each game, and then all of these "well if this guy or that guy loses this week" scenarios will be moot.

I love going to the Pats board and seeing their discussion on the #1 seed. Last week they were all hating on us. This week they are giving us more respect. But they really seem hinged on us losing to SD.

We really can't lose this game. This game scares me more than the Bengals game. I really wish this game was flexed to an earlier time.

I predicted we would dominate defensively against SF and win. We will defeat San Diego and our offense will kick it up a gear not letting our defense carry the load in this game.

EDIT: I just now see Webb will be out; we won't have it as easy. Where is a healthy Carr (for what we paid for him) when you need him?

The head-to-head is irrelevant as long as there's a 3-way tie.

If all 3 3-loss teams win out, the deciding tiebreaker is going to be Strength of Victory.

If either of them lose, we should end up first seed. Head-to-head vs Houston and common opponents vs NE.

The Ravens have already clinched the Strength of Victory tiebreaker if there is a three way tie at 13-3.

Pretty much. I guess if they were going to lose, it's not such a bad thing to only lose to scrub teams.

At any rate, it would be very hard for the Ravens to get any seeding other than 1, 3 or 5. The Patriots and Texans are almost sure to win out, and the Steelers might lose in San Fran, but they'll be at least 12-4. If Webb misses the next three games, it's not going to be an easy run. The Chargers have a tendency to Norv themselves, but they're always dangerous, and the Bengals match up tough against the Ravens.

I don't want to bring this back up but since it's still possible for the Ravens to get the 1 Seed, I figure people would want to bring this up. With the Ravens-Bengals, Steelers-Browns flexed to 4:15, and the Patriots-Bills at 1PM, we'll know by game time if we have a shot at the 1 Seed with a win. The Bills have already beat the Patriots once, their defense forced 4 interceptions in that game from Brady and they just got 4 interceptions from Tebow in the win over the Broncos. 2 of those were returned for Touchdowns I might add. The Bills defense got 3 sacks and 1 FF in the Denver game as well. Bills Defense is playing well and will look to spoil the Patriots run at the # 1 Seed.

I'd worry more about getting past Cinn which is a big question mark based on the past few games and the injuries starting to pile up.

None of this matters, we are One and Done in this years playoffs if the offence cant put up more then 2 TDs and FGs. Cause the QBs we are about to face can and will carve up our secondary.......doesnt look good people.
