Lardarius Webb And T-Sizzle = Defensive Mvp's?

41 posts in this topic

Webb and Suggs were defensive BEASTS last night against the 49ers. Webb has impressed me this year HUGELY. What are your opinions on these two players? I feel like they are possibly two of the best in the league.

Webb is starting to get the recognition he deserves for his CB play. I think it's only a matter of time before he breaks out on a punt return for a TD , too. For all-around value to the team , he's among a handful near the top , IMO.

This rating system has him at #4 among league CBs , with numbers that look a lot like those of GB's Woodson. The same site has Suggs at #1 at LB :

Webb is improving really quickly, just like he was his rookie season. It's obvious to me that last year he was struggling to return to form from the ACL tear. I'm impressed at how well he's played on the outside, because he started out as a beast in the slot. Apparently he plays both well now and can both rush the passer and stop the run.

Suggs is Suggs. It's not a coincidence to me that yesterday when Ngata looked like Ngata again, Suggs blew up. Hopefully Haloti's injured thigh is a thing of the past.

By the way, if Haloti looks this good til the end of the year, he's our DMVP. It's funny how one week the D looks stale, then the next week we have 5 different guys looking like the defensive players of the year.

That makes Vegas scratching their heads....

Last night, whoever picked Ravens to win with 3 1/2 pts given should looked shaky when Alex tried to score in the last min. Normally, the other team should score the TD and then the game end; Ravens won and Vegas won.....His reciever screwed up...

Good, I'm glad all those people who bet on the 49ers lost. I saw a link that said 65-70% of people who bet on the game picked the 9ers. The San Francisco area just got a little poorer thanks to Chuck Pagano and crew.

Interesting website, although I am curious as to how they weigh the various metrics. CB in particular is a difficult position to rate just by measuring the stats they listed.

That site uses two main metrics called WPA ( Win Probability Added ) and EPA ( Expected Points Added ) , which are explained here :

http://www.advancednflstats.com/2010/01/win-probability-added-wpa-explained.html

http://www.advancednflstats.com/2010/01/expected-points-ep-and-expected-points.html

They admit that their analysis is not the final word , just that it's an attempt to go beyond simple measures like # of tackles for defensive players , for example , which have their own , obvious flaws. If a team has a lousy offense that can't stay on the field , their defensive players will , by necessity , spend an inordinate amount of time making tackles.

Ladarius is having a great yr. Just wow. He makes tackles against the run plays good coverage and has a few picks to show for it. I liked his speed last yr but his coverage and ball skills really improved this yr.

I really like the talent and youth at cb...

Webb is playing amazing ball right now, 14 passes defensed, 4 INTs, solid tackler, even has 1 sack....soon teams are going to start avoiding him

Who would have thought Webb would be the shutdown corner....and now if Jimmy develops watch out

Cary Williams has been doing goo too but he's not on Webb's level at least not at this point....he doesn't play the ball like Webb does...same thing with Jimmy sometimes...

Webb is playing lights out at the moment, I always thought he would just be one of those guys that just flashes potential but he's showing some Revis like ability.

I have been a big Webb fan since his rookie year. We met him at a signing and he went above and beyond the call. He is a total class act.

His playing just keeps getting better and better. Hopefully he is a RAVEN for life.

This also brings up an interesting topic. If we look at both sides of the ball the Ravens all of a sudden have exceptional depth in areas the fan base has been concerned about in the past.

Our corners are one of the best group in the NFL and we can keep Webb, Williams, and Smith together for at least the next 3 years relatively inexpensively. I also like Gorrer. This will allow the Ravens to cut Carr and Foxworth and those awful contracts. Same goes for the DE/OLB position. Suddenly we have more starters than available slots with the likes of Kruger and McPhee along with Redding and JJ.

There are very few areas to address in the draft, the only areas are C, ILB, and SS (all of which won't start right away) but we need to find the heirs to Ray and Ed, along with a good young C to replace the again Birk in a year or two. Really, I only see 3-4 available positions for players drafted next season and wonder if the Ravens will package picks, ending up with maybe 5 picks, to move up to really solidify those very few needs.

I love Webby he has really improved. He used to not be able to tackle, but now I see that he never misses one. He is clearly becoming an incredibly good corner.

Webb has been a force all season. And Suggs is a great run stopper, best in the league, but i can't put him as the best pass rusher. Yes he has had two 3 sack games this year but he disappears some games too but thats not his fault, he just gets double teamed and focused on because he is our only pass rush option that demands that respect.

The impressive thing about Webb as a corner, which has been mentioned with good reason in our past couple games, is his catching. A lot of DBs play there because they can't catch well enough to be a WR, but that's not true of Webb. Webb's last couple of picks have been beautiful catches, and all of them have been because he's showed great defensive instincts to jump on the ball. He is quickly becoming a shutdown corner and deserves to make the Pro Bowl with the kind of season he's having right now. Hopefully players and coaches can make enough of a difference to make up for the fact that he's not well known amongst fans around the league.

Suggs is one of the best OLBs in the league. He's a beast in the pass rush as well as being a great run stopper and in coverage. He is never a liability for the defense. If he keeps up his motor in the second half of the season he could contend for DPoY, though the competition will be tight with guys like Demarcus Ware and Jared Allen tearing it up against opposing QBs.

I love what both of the guys are doing. Webb is living up to my high expectations of him and I'm happy people are finally coming around about him. Let's erase that play haunting you Lardarius! What can I say about Suggs? He's playing lights out and has become the heir apparent leader of our defense. He's definitely atop my DPOY list. Keep it up Sizz...one sack away from back to back double digit sack seasons.

Love Webb and Suggs.

We have a lot of playmakers on defense so to have your name stand out says a lot about the season you are having.

Thought so after his first season. Many people saw Webbs potential but the injury did slow him down a bit last year. This year he seems to be picking right up where he left off in 09. I expected big years from both and I'm not going to lie, after the preseason started wondering about Webb but he's proved me wrong.

In my opinion, Sizzle would be the DPOY of the entire NFL if the season ended today. Revis would be a close second. Speaking of Revis, he's probably the only CB who's playing better than Webb right now in the AFC.

Someone else I would suggest instead of Webb for our MVP besides Suggs is Jameel McClain. He doesn't have the pure stats of some of the other guys, but if you watch the games, you'll see he's making the plays we need to win games. Especially since Ray has been out.

Webb is a beast, still hasn't give up a TD yet. He's also playing a lot better inside than I've seen him before. He's having a great year and one of the best in the AFC along Darelle Revis, Champ Bailey, Joe Haden, and Brandon Flowers. I don't know if he has enough experience (it's only his 3rd year) and name recognition just yet to be named a Pro Bowler, but he definitely deserves it.

Suggs is always on fire in prime time games and it seems like whenever Haloti Ngata is on fire he is as well and vice versa. I don't know about DPOY because the Ravens have a great TEAM defense and while he is a standout he plays only a part role to a well rounded defense.

Indeed he does - Webb has 4, Ed has 3.

Webb's quickly becoming one of the most complete corners in the NFL.

Look, Suggs will ALWAYS show up in the big games. This shouldn't surprise anyone.

It was a Thursday Night, Thanksgiving night, black jersey game. Suggs was obligated to have a big game. He did.

Webb, he's always had the talent. He's getting more consistent now, obviously with experience and more time spent around guys like Ed Reed. He's definitely got more "big play" potential than any of the other Ravens corners.

Let's just hope this new-found pass-rush isn't the result of a highly overrated 49ers offense playing in Baltimore on a short week. Let's hope we see that kind of pressure on the opposing QB much more consistently!
