I agree Williams has been getting burnt lately. I would love to see Webb and Smith out there together.

Jimmy Smith is built just like Carey Williams as a big physical corner except he is far more athletic and talented. No offense to Carey, he's done a good job considering this is his first year starting but Jimmy was the 1st round pick and a top 10 talent so he's going to take over the #2 spot next to Webb as he gains more NFL experience.

Jimmy is a beast! I seen him have some good jams out there with their wideouts. Very impressive. Strong and just a natural talent

I don't think Jimmy is ready just yet to start over Cary outright. Cary has held his own so far. Yeah he's gotten burnt a few times but he's also had some GREAT pass break ups in pivotal moments.

It could just be me seeing him through rose colored glasses but I haven't seen anything to validate him losing his job...
I love Jimmy and am excited to see him take over that starting role, but I just don't see it happening as soon as next week.

I think I should also point out that Webb is developing into an extremely versatile and complete cornerback with shutdown potential. He impresses me every single week.

Some food for thought, post game Harbs held Cary in close and gave him a very long talk. I wonder what that could possibly be about.

I'd be okay with giving Jimmy a chance at Cary's spot. Cary is still a beast though, he makes a lot of great plays.

Webb, Smith and Williams have me really excited about our DBs. I mean.. just compare that group to any of our more recent DBs and it's just night and day.

Also, keep in mind that a lot of those sacks today were coverage sacks.. and Cary was covering like a boss.

Cary is doing a fine job. We'll need Cary,Webb,Jimmy in full starter mode whether they start #2, or #3. It only takes one big play for us to lose. All 3 got to be 100% ready. Carr and Crapworth can go.

Agreed, but I do think we hold on to Cary for at least another year, and use him in on the outside in the nickle seeing as he has more than held his own for the majority of the season and played exceptionally well. I love this problem of not knowing who will start at CB because of how much quality depth we have, it's the best problem with our secondary recently that I can think of. If Cary can continue to improve with game experience I think he will land a big contract in the next few years, seeing as most coaches love having big corners who have above average coverage skills. I do think Cary could put on another 5-10 lbs of muscle, go after the ball a little more aggressively and get more physical in press coverage at the L.O.S.

Only a year? How about cut loose Foxworth and Carr and pay guys like Cary who contribute ;)
We have a very strong and young group of DBs. Cary, Jimmy, Webb is a stacked top 3. And with Gorrer and Brown developing we have solid depth in the making.

I love the thought of our starting corners being + 6 foot. Not to mention Lardarius is looking more shutdown every single game.

I agree, I love Cary and his story and determination but he's been struggling recently.

I was curious though because I watched the Rave TV videos this past week and saw a clip of Lardarius Webb saying that, if Jimmy started, Webb himself would move to the nickel? If that's the idea, I totally disagree; Webb has been a revelation this year. He should start alongside Jimmy and bring Cary to the corner. That right there is a special group

I am completely for cutting Foxworth (has anyone else used that one before?) and trading, cutting or restructuring Carr's contract, and no ,I hope we keep Cary for quite a few years if he continues to improve and play at a high level (notice I said AT LEAST a year lol I'm not angry, that was just the best emote I could find).

I love Cary as a nickel; we could use some real sneaky packages with a guy like him as NB. I just dont trust him to be a starter

Cary has been playing solid and you don't trust him as a starter and we are like 8-3 and like the #3 pass D in the league? Ok, he gave up a potential bomb to Ginn who is a blazer and he was right there, just played it wrong. I want Jimmy as the starter as bad as y'all do but Cary has to lose the starting job and he hasn't done that so far.

Jimmy isn't ready to start yet. He's done some good things and I like the potential, but there were a few plays he looked questionable. If I'm not mistaken, wasn't he the one that Smith beat on 4th down on the pass that was dropped (Mark Clayton style)?

I think we'll keep giving the Jimmy more and more time. This will be a good week to give him a lot of reps because Cleveland and their passing attack doesn't exactly strike fear.

This was the comment I was going to make. Jimmy had very little to do w/ the 4th down incompletion. While I'm happy he closed, it was a bit too late.

Cary has played very well this season considering he basically was a special teams, practice squad player a year ago.... In most games when Cary gives up a first down the ball is right over his outstretched hands....

I didn't see the Big Play that almost happen because I had not made it home until 8 min left in 2nd qtr.....

As much as I like Jimmy Smith, i don't think he should start just yet, I like the fact that he seeing more time and at different times we place all 3 CBs inside or outside, making blitzes and coverages even more difficult to predict..... Over time Jimmy will earn and take a spot....

Cary Williams is probably the best athlete in the ravens secondary in terms of 40 yard dash and vertical leap. but one thing I don't like about his game is his balance, He is always stumbling around somewhere. I saw him run with mike wallace multiple times and stay with him. He needs to go workout with a gymnast and get that balance right.

The few times Cary got burnt on the deep pass - was because Ed Reed was out of position.

If you notice Ed was behind the receiver and Cary and he was trying to catch up. (Cin game. down the sideline)
Then Ed went for a blitz and left Cary one on one. They didn't get to the QB and Cin QB threw a strike down the sideline. No way to defend.

In the 49ers Game, Ed was almost a no show on the field.
He appears to be avoiding hits. Instead he always seems to be going after the ball instead of the receiver, Like it is his last horra.

If you talk about the CB's and safties, you have to include the bad play of Ed Reed.

I've never said a bad thing about Ed Reed his whole career and i sure as heck wont start today. Ed gambles, that's what he does and it's why he's so great. Sometimes it pays off, some times it doesn't. But Cary Williams has been solid, can't look at one play in the game that didn't even count as a reason to take away his starting spot. Cary was lights out all game long. Most of our sacks last night came after 4-5 seconds of coverage. That's a pretty long time in DB time, and Smith had nowhere to throw it.

And besides, Chuck is keeping our second stringers happy because he gives them as much time on the field as the starters, so it really doesn't matter.

Exactly. That is why I started a thread with a poll between Smith and Williams. IMO, members here over hype Williams who is losing some of his luster as evidence of getting beat deep again only to be bailed out by a penalty. Gang, who did we draft in the 1st round last year? That says it all! We have to get Jimmy game reps; it is vital to see what he has got as a pro. Give Jimmy the lead in coverage assignments and bring Williams in as the 3rd man or in special coverage packages.

Ed is hurting, but there was no way he was sitting out with Ray out. Hopefully his shoulder heals a little during this extended break.

Smith isn't ready to start yet but with more playtime I believe he will be a beast. That last play he would of given up the first down if it wasn't for that bad pass even though it wouldn't have change the outcome of the game.

The key to all of our corners playing well is Teryl Austin, he is a beast. Cary is a beast, not sure why you wanna replace him, and mess up our chemistry on defense. I would like to see Jimmy get more snaps, just so he is ready for the playoffs. Cary is definitely feeling the pressure of Jimmy breathing down his back, which might be the reason he has been getting burnt,
