Skip Bayless Hatin' Again.. Mangini Backin' Us

ESPN's typical analysis is a mile wide and an inch deep. They include a little bit of factually correct information and use that as a permit to wing it on the rest. A good example : They did the research to find that Green Bay is in Wisconsin , and then went downhill from there ....

Thank you, Jim doesn't even have a complete season under his belt. But he is doing a great job, but let a season play through. The Niners have played a few good teams, and they were all very close games, so they aren't unbeatable. But in all fairness the Niners could lose out for the rest of the season, what would these "experts" be saying then? Jim is awesome but I really don't care what these people have to say.

And John came in and took control of a very very hard locker room to control. Imagine the resistance he had to face, the Defense was the voice of our team, and our defense wanted Rex Ryan as the HC. And our locker room used to be BIG TIME talkers, trash talkin and all that. John took hold of our vocal players and dropped our "thug" reputation.

honestly i dont think we will ever get rid of that reputtation, just like cutler will never get rid of his "soft" reputation because of the playoff game last year, wich i dont agree with people at all, i think the guy is a tough SoB. We will always be labled as a "bad-boy" team, not as bad as the raiders, but not far behind

I hear what your saying, but compared to how we were viewed a few years ago, especially earlier in the decade, Ray Lewis was synonymous with murderer. Now his name is rightfully connected with leader, hall of famer, inspiration. Thinks of that nature. And we've got some very vocal players on both sides of the ball in Baltimore, we'd be as vocal as the Jets if not more if it wasn't for John.

Mangini was so on point about John's success in his first year with a ROOKIE QB playing ROAD playoff games against the likes of MIAMI (they were the 49ers of that year) and TENNESSEE (very very good team that year).

Meanwhile Jim comes in and gets a team with a great front 7 and young dynamic secondary, as well as a 1st rounder at WR, 1st rounder at TE and #1 overall pick at QB. Not to mention a pretty solid offensive line. Oh yeah and that Gore guy.

I'm going to stop going on about this before I throw my laptop at the wall. All I can say is, like I said up there, 9ers are this year's Dolphins of 08. Conservative QB, good RB, decent WR, good OL, a solid defense albeit not as good as SF, but the teams are very similar. And we all know what we did to those Dolphins...

Very similiar to what the Chiefs had going on last year until we exposed them. Same thing with the Bronco's when they started 6-0 and then we put an end to them and their season. If they are legit, it will be a heck of a game, if they aren't it will come to the light.

Funny thing about those Broncos was I'm pretty sure they were also ranked #1 in defense coming in. They gave up less than 10 points in 4 of those wins. Then we smacked them around, and they were never really the same defense after that.

We rarely get respect on the media level and it usually does not bother me too much. It is what it is.

What is getting under my skin though is this Gresham TD hooey.

They act like it was the last play of the game and it would have won the game for the Bengals.

Whatever.

We will never get skip to agree that the Ravens are for real because EVEN if we won the superbowl he would found an excuse as to why the OTHER team lost not why we won so its a endless debate with Skip.

Giants, Cowboys, Lions.

3 best teams the 49ers have played. They are 2-1 after those games.

They have benefitted from a soft schedule (even though they are getting screwed on west coast trips) and with pretty awful QB's. The defensive ranking is inflated IMO. When you play Red Dalton and Tavaris Jackson early in the season, John Skelton, and two others I am forgetting right now your defense will likely have a feast.

Everyone likes to point out the 49er defense is ranked very highly, well yeah ok, but talk to us next week after the game. You know the Ravens were ranked #1 a few weeks ago....Stuff changes week to week and I expect the Ravens to blow up the 49ers and expose them for what they are. A decent team that has taken advantage of a soft schedule.

I would put the 49ers right above the Jets but below Houston, Pittsburgh and the Ravens (naturally). I think we can handle them in our own stadium.
One common trait I have noticed on this board - the week the Ravens play against an opponent, there is a lot of "analysis" on how "overrated" the opponent is. In this case - the 49ers are benefitting from a "soft" schedule.

The W/L results of 49er opponents is 47-53
The W/L results of Ravens opponents is 49-51
Given the fact that the 49ers are 9-1, take away one win and the W/L records of both teams are the same. The 49ers haven't exactly played a "soft" schedule - the Cowboys, Bengals, Lions and Giants are have legit playoff aspirations and the Eagles - although disappointing - are still a difficult team to beat.

Instead of looking at it through Purple Colored Glasses - recognize the 49ers for what they are. They are the best against the run, which makes a difficult match up for Baltimore who really needs Ray Rice. How good is Alex Smith really? The jury is definitely out on him - but Alex Smith in 2011 is having a more efficient season than Joe Flacco -
Better Completion %: 62.4% to 55.4%
Better QB Rating: 93.9 to 77.6
More Touchdown Passes: 13 to 12
Less Interceptions: 4 to 8

Although you scoff at Frank Gore vs. Ray Rice comparison - you're really under estimating Gore (who would have been a RB at a whole different level if not for knee injuries in High School).
Gore has 870 yards rushing to Rice 663 yards rushing. I get that Rice has more receptions - but not every team wants to use their RB on 3rd downs and in passing situations. It's a matter of conserving the RB for the entire season because you are rushing him more.

Defensively - the 49ers haven't given up a rushing TD nor a 100 yard game rushing all year.

The fact that Baltimore gets this game at home compounding it being a West Coast team on a short week is a benefit. But if you haven't learned that every NFL game is a potential loss and you're dismissing the 49ers, you're delusional. The Ravens can and probably will win this game - but it won't come easy.

lol there's always going to be an excuse to why we do what we do. As a Ravens fan we just develop thick skin lol. But it is nice to occasionally hear someone give our boys some love.

Who cares what the media says?

You know what? Scratch that. We should care. And we should hope it's negative so we can prove them wrong. Nothing better than coming out and getting a big W as the underdog.

i am now of the persuasion that it is cool to hear what the media has to say about our Ravens whether it's good bad or indifferent.
