Skip Bayless Hatin' Again.. Mangini Backin' Us

Mangini showing some love for the Ravens/Coach John. Sort of a silly debate since the question is so vague but ya.. for those who are interested.

Not surprising that Skip goes with Jim.. the guy can't seem to bring himself to say anything positive about our team outside of the defense. Jemele Hill comes right out saying shes a 9ers fan so no surprise there either.

I'd go with Jim too. I think his success is more guaranteed because he has an expertise in a key area. (offense, QB)

John is a good "rah rah" guy, but his success relies on the coordinators.

Like I said before, John is a good coach, but if I could chose between the 2, I'm taking Jim with little hesitation. I could only imagine what he could do with Flacco.

Just never seen someone show such disdain for a team (other than the defense) like this guy. Sure, not really important.. just pointing it out.

I can understand that. I kinda figured that since the question was who would you trust more that most people would go with the guy who has consistently kept a team playing a high level over someone who has just started. Not trying to take anything away from Jim, in fact I'm convinced he's a HUGE reason for the 49ers turn around (did they even make any huge off season acquisitions that would make someone believe otherwise?). I'd like to see them do it again next year first though.

This is all you need to know. When we beat the Jets, Skip KILLED Flacco for only completing 30 percent of his passes, even though a) the receivers were covered the whole night, B: guys dropped a ton of passes, c) the offensive line gave one of its worst performances of an already underwhelming season, and d) in spite of all of that, Joe made huge completions that set up game winning field-goals, despite Rice gaining only 66 yards on the ground on 25 carries. Then, he goes on and says that Tim Tebow's 44 percent completion rate is inconsequential and that Tim Tebow was the reason for ALL of his teams wins. I believe when it was brought up that he went 2 of 8 against the Chiefs, Skip said, "but those were the 2 throws that won the whole game."

Man... I love John and all but what he'd done with Alex Smith is big time. Makes you wonder if Andrew Luck is even as good as advertised lol. Mabye most was Jim.

Giants, Cowboys, Lions.

3 best teams the 49ers have played. They are 2-1 after those games.

They have benefitted from a soft schedule (even though they are getting screwed on west coast trips) and with pretty awful QB's. The defensive ranking is inflated IMO. When you play Red Dalton and Tavaris Jackson early in the season, John Skelton, and two others I am forgetting right now your defense will likely have a feast.

Everyone likes to point out the 49er defense is ranked very highly, well yeah ok, but talk to us next week after the game. You know the Ravens were ranked #1 a few weeks ago....Stuff changes week to week and I expect the Ravens to blow up the 49ers and expose them for what they are. A decent team that has taken advantage of a soft schedule.

I would put the 49ers right above the Jets but below Houston, Pittsburgh and the Ravens (naturally). I think we can handle them in our own stadium.

Skip Bayless is a professional troll. Alex Smith has been in the league since 2005, Flacco since 2008. Who has better numbers? Who has more playoff wins? I rest my case, lol!

I love their points.

"Jim took a team who was terrible, and completely changed their mindset"-Skip and Jemele

"John did the same thing with a 5 and 11 team, and a rookie qb. And took them to the AFC championship game."- Mangini

"But that's different, the Ravens had ball players like Lewis and Reed on that team. Who did the 49ers have?."-Skip and Jemele

"Obviously, they had some players otherwise they wouldn't be this good this year."-Mangini

It's so funny because Skip talks about other people being a "prisoner of the moment". Some people are better at inspiring than others. I don't think anyone can argue that Jim is a great motivational speaker, and I think that is why people get so caught up in him. But the love for Jim has to be a "prisoner of the moment". It's like when you first start dating a girl. It's all mushy and lovey, but once this start getting tough or things start going wrong, then the problems are exposed. That is what is happening with the 49ers and Jim Harbaugh. We will see how he does when he has to overcome some problems.

It's funny how people just forget what John did when he came into the league. Jemele made it sound like John has done an ok job since taking over the Ravens. I'm thinking, "are you kidding me??", he controls the headcases of the Ravens pretty well, he consistently goes to the playoffs, and he manages our team extremely well. What more do people want from him?

Ok, I know I commented already but I just went and watched the clip.

1st off - who the hell is Jamele Hill? How is she an "expert"?
2nd - Skip Bayless may indeed get paid to say controversial things but when he says things, he means them. He defends himself and attacks others with a lot of gusto. Stupid gusto, but he is still sincere.
3rd - I could tell Mangini thought he was on a panel of fools. Kinda funny watching the brief awkward silences after Mangini made his point. Seems to me both brothers have turned around teams in similar situations but as of now John has more of a track record. Not sure how you can take Jim at this point even with all his passion and his p[alyers "trust" him. It isn't like we have Tony Sparano or Dick Jauron coaching our team, jeeze..

Maybe discuss this in a few more seasons. Really a ridiculous panel IMO.

I think a better panel would be Billek, Gruden, Mangini, and Herm Edwards if you were to have a panel at all.

I'm kinda wondering about this myself.

I was never a big college ball fan but I've paid some attention to Luck and Stanford this year and reviewed some stats and such. And I've also said the "Suck for Luck" campaign could be a futile one, if Luck comes into the draft and pulls an Eli Manning/John Elway and says "I will only play for my coach and no one else." and insists on coming to S.F. But Luck's success and the Stanford offense looks a lot like the Niners offense and Alex Smith this year.

The Niners would have to work some kind of HUGE deal to get him despite the demand and I really have to wonder if it would be worth it??? Maybe yes, maybe no. I have no clue.

i watch first take every day, skip is an interesting guy. He has made some genius predictions and makes very great points on most things, but theres a couple times that he makes absolute no sense. i cant stand how when someone says something bad about romo he goes crazy and just says "who threw for 342 yards on the jets defense, ROMO"...yea they also lost that game bc of a romo int but yet flacco gets no respect for a game winning 92 yard drive against pittsburg, IN pittsburg. But i actually agree with him on the Tebow thing, he himself said Tebow isnt a great QB, he just finds ways to win...obviously he has proved that right. its a good show to watch and listen to opinions, im hoping that one day flacco will go on there,,,would be nice if hes wearing a SB ring when he does.

As far as the Jim/John debate....i said about a week ago that id take john, im sticking to it but i looked into jim a little more, i like the guy and what he can/has done. BUT, it needs to be done more consistent and i want to see some qaulity wins against better teams, but lets give him some more time before we give so much praise, everyone is such a prisoner of the moment

Thank you, Jim doesn't even have a complete season under his belt. But he is doing a great job, but let a season play through. The Niners have played a few good teams, and they were all very close games, so they aren't unbeatable. But in all fairness the Niners could lose out for the rest of the season, what would these "experts" be saying then? Jim is awesome but I really don't care what these people have to say.

And John came in and took control of a very very hard locker room to control. Imagine the resistance he had to face, the Defense was the voice of our team, and our defense wanted Rex Ryan as the HC. And our locker room used to be BIG TIME talkers, trash talkin and all that. John took hold of our vocal players and dropped our "thug" reputation.

Yeah, Jim still has a lot to prove. I'd forgotten that Mariucci went 11-1 in his first season as coach. He also won a Superbowl. Then he got fired not long after the "walk off".

PS - I tried to embed a video earlier. It didn't work. Is there a trick to it or is it just not allowed?

You're giving Jim way too much credit. Not saying he isn't a good coach but I don't think he's the genius you think he is.

Typical Skip, and Jemele is a 49ers fan herself, so of course they are gonna say Jim.

I love how they make it seem like the 49ers didn't have anybody before Jim got there. Both Skip and Jemele were quick to point out that John inherited a team with Ray, Ed, Terrell, Haloti, etc, but they didnt say anything about Jim inheriting a team with Patrick Willis, Haralson, Justin Smith, Donte Witner, and Carlos Rogers. The 49ers defense is a lot like our defense, while obviously they may not have 2-3 future hall of famers like we do, they are still pretty good. And Willis reminds me a lot of Ray.

Not saying i care what Skip or Jemele really have to say, cause I've learned to take most of the so called "analysts" opinion with a grain of salt.

I can not stand Skip, he goes out of his way to dog the RAVENS every second he can. He is a joke, he can have his Cowboys, they still suck and you see how he always takes up for them.

Mangini was so on point about John's success in his first year with a ROOKIE QB playing ROAD playoff games against the likes of MIAMI (they were the 49ers of that year) and TENNESSEE (very very good team that year).

Meanwhile Jim comes in and gets a team with a great front 7 and young dynamic secondary, as well as a 1st rounder at WR, 1st rounder at TE and #1 overall pick at QB. Not to mention a pretty solid offensive line. Oh yeah and that Gore guy.

I'm going to stop going on about this before I throw my laptop at the wall. All I can say is, like I said up there, 9ers are this year's Dolphins of 08. Conservative QB, good RB, decent WR, good OL, a solid defense albeit not as good as SF, but the teams are very similar. And we all know what we did to those Dolphins...
