Kyle Orton was just waived by the broncos. Do u think the bears will go after him? He is by far the best QB available

He got cut in favor of a kid running the option-------and Brady Quinn.
And yeah, I can see the Bears going after him.

Hmmmm, I seem to remember the Broncos once carried both Orton and Cutler. I don't think Chicago wants to be known as the team that's picking up Denver's scraps all the time.

It's the same regime that traded him away and the offense is completely different from the one they had with him there - they also have Hanie. I think he goes to KC. Tyler Palko isn't capable of winning in the NFL.

They were actually traded for each other. Cutler was traded to the Bears for Kyle Orton and picks. Orton use to be on the Bears and was traded.

With that being said. I'm sure the Bears have already put their claim in for him. But he is going to KC.

I find this move by the Broncos interesting. Because the number 1 possible destination is KC. Which is in Denver's division and is only 2 games out of first.

I have to believe that Orton went to Elway and Fox and pleaded for them to let him go. That way he can have another shot with a team right now. So many opportunities out there. The Broncos are really doing Orton a favor.

Well this is totally random lol. I wonder why they waived him and just let him go now. Man is Denver dumb, they could have got a Draft Pick for him but held on to him just to release him and get nothing for him.

I'm going to say Kansas City but I wouldn't be surprised to see Houston take a look after this week if he is still available and Leinart does a horrible job.

I doubt he wants to go back to Chicago so I agree with your sentiment that he will go to KC.

Nope. Orton is a FA after this year. So any team could sign him. Orton can't be traded. He is dead weight in Denver because they aren't going to resign him.

Whatever team does pick him off the waivers will have to pay him 2.5M for essentially 5 games. I don't know if KC really wants to do this (depends on what their season's goal is). I could see the Bears paying it since they are in playoff contention.

Orton really doesn't have a choice if a team picks him off waivers. He would have a choice with who he signs with in the offseason. Orton is really a 5 game (+ playoffs) lease.

It really depends if KC and CHI want to spend the 2.5M. If they don't. I'm sure Houston will.

I'm pretty sure Chicago doesn't care that they traded Orton. At this point, they just want to win enough games to make the post season, and they need someone reliable to get them there, and then Cutler could take over.

But Chicago will be one of the last teams to put in a claim for him since they're 7-3.

My guess is he goes to KC as well.

I still think the only team that makes a move for him is KC. Orton's a similar QB to Cassel and would be a huge upgrade over Palko even without a real grasp of the play-book. The Bears have Hanie, who looked good in the NFC Championship game and knows the system. The Texans have Leinart who, with his experience in the system, is probably a better option than Orton.

IDK. Are the Chiefs willing to spend 2.5M on a 5 game loaner? They already have 6 losses on the season.

I think the Bears would definitely give Orton another chance. But then again. 2.5M for a guy to hold down fort until Cutler comes back. Its a lot.

Houston would definitely grab him IMO. Leinhart might know the offense but he has been absolutely horrendous in starting situations and PS. He might get the start but be on a short leash.

I think JO was saying that Denver would probably get a compensatory pick for him leaving in Free Agency.

The Bears, Chiefs, and Texans would all make sense to me for Kyle Orton. The Bears and Texans make the most sense since they both lost their starting QB's and have playoff shots.

The Broncos are pathetic! I can't believe they're that sold on Tebow! Orton was the only guy on that team with an arm and they dump him for nothing. They might as well have McGahee run the option and have Tebow at RB.

The Bears are high on Caleb Hanie, I realy can't see Chicago claiming him off waivers.

Nor Houston either, Leinart can fill in and get it done.

No mention of Washington on this thread? That was my first reaction

You mean the same guy who threw 2 INT's against only 1 Td?? Seeing as it was against the Pack, who had a great D last year, he did average, but great?? Heck nah. And I don't think Martz likes him too much either. Drafting Enderle tells me that, and it also tells Espn Insider that as well, as I just looked Hanie's profile up on there, and first thing that sticks out to me on the page says that the Bears would probably be interested in signing a Vet option in an effort to avoid Hanie as much as possible. It also said that thats why Enderle was drafted, in order to make him backup over Cutler over time, because Martz doesn't think Hanie fits his system. And that may not be too far off, since he has much less throwing power/accuracy than Cutler does.

But as to who he goes to?? I'd say frontrunners are Chiefs and then the Bears. Darkhorse would be the Texans.

Yea that's why its a tough call. That division can still be had by anyone in it. If they were in our division I couldn't see them going after him.

Its just what sort of expectations do the chiefs have right now. General Management might want to go after a QB in the draft. Cassel is a FA this year.

They can't make the playoffs so they'd be paying 2.5M for nothing. They'd still be able to get Orton in the offseason when he becomes a FA. Then they can throw butt loads of money at him if they really want him.

Umm... no, just no. Hanie is not held in high esteem by the Bears. Where do you get this info? I just read an article on his player profile on espn.com that said he wasn't a fit for Martz's system. And as to the Texans Leinart, I've seen plenty enough from him that shows me that he lacks any confidence in himself and his ability to get the ball past 10 yards. All of his throws that he makes is like 5 yards or less, which is really actually kinda bad. Link to Hanies profile is here. Read the fantasy spin info in the middle for more on what I just stated.

Your telling me 2 pages and no mention of the team who holds the # 1 Pick right now. I think Kyle Orton gives the Colts a better chance at winning games from now through the end of the season. Sure Colts aren't in the playoff hunt but Orton is a Free Agent after this season anyhow, Colts can see if he can win them games for 2.5 Million, and let him go in Free Agency. I mean at this point with everyone else having 2 or 3 wins, the Colts are a deadlock for the 1st Pick unless Orton takes them to 6-10 or 5-11, but at least Orton is a better Quarterback than Curtis Painter. So the Colts should give it a shot.

Colts won't claim him. They have already wasted enough money on qbs. Its a waste.

Rumor is that the Bears will be putting in a claim.

The Texans will pass on Kyle Orton and just like everyone is saying, the Bears are suppose to put a claim on Orton. Though according to Rotoworld, he won't be the starter, but Orton will move from Denver's bench behind Tebow to Chicago's bench backing up Caleb Hanie.

This is to be expected everywhere besides KC. If Chicago or Houston gets him he would be on the bench. Hanie and Leinhart would get the first chance to succeed because they have been with the teams and know the offenses. But both of those guys would have very, very short leashes.

Think that the Bears are done with him. And that it would be good, for the Chiefs to get him. Should the Tyler Palko experience fail. Which in his first outing, the Chiefs got slammed by the Pats on MNF!

As much as I want the Colts to sign him because I DONT want them to win the Luck sweepstakes, I see Orton going to the Chiefs. The Bears will try to claim him too, but he will be rewarded to the Chiefs because of their worse record.
