How does common opponents tiebreaker work?

Example...

(assume both teams have identical records at season's end, and it comes down to common opponents tiebreaking step)

If the Ravens had lost ONE game against the Steelers, and the Patriots had beaten the Steelers... how do you choose which game between the Ravens and Steelers you use for the tiebreaking purposes? Do you use the Ravens win or the Ravens loss?

Assuming the Patriots and Ravens both won all their other common games...(this year it would be Jets, Chargers, and Indianapolis).

You count both. The Ravens would be 1-1 against the Steelers and the Pats 1-0. Their record is better, so they'd win the tiebreaker.

Ah, sounds simple enough! haha, thanks for the help. i was trying to think of a scenario where the number of common games was an uneven amount for one team due to a division opponent but i guess it's always going to be an even number.

If we win out, we get the #1 seed. Its as simple as that. 6 games, 6 wins. We truly do control our own destiny. Now this team doesn't like that so they'll probably find a way to lose a game or two down the stretch.

I tend to agree with you, PuRock, and I am hoping for the Ravens to win out over the rest of the season. I know that there are some who may not think too highly of that ideal, but I do believe that it could happen.

Well we know we have the talent and ability to. We are also pretty healthy as of current. We just need to find that consistency.

Hopefully the end of season push really drives our team to tap their full potential.

My predictions-based on schedules...

1. Patriots
2. Ravens or Steelers
3. Raiders - or could be Texans, depends on how Leinert does.
4. Texans
5. Steelers or Ravens
6. Jets

I would see the Jets beating the 3 seed and the Steelers or Ravens winning....therefore, the Ravens and Steelers would meet in the divisional round with the key being who gets the home field advantage.
