For most who know Ravens football, Webb is having a standout season, but now that Jimmy Smith is healthy would you start him in place of Cary Williams? I thought about this late Sunday and was prompted to ask this once I saw the artictle with a similar subject on the site today. My vote is for Jimmy because it would really benefit him more to get the live game reps given that he got a late start. (It is important to see what he has got.)

Smith......Cary Williams is an average corner. I think people on this site have hyped him up a bit much, simply because he is a tall corner. Cary plays with the same kind of cushion Chris Carr does sometimes. I would like to see Cary become more physical. With that being said along with Cary being beat like a drum all day Sunday, I want Smith and Webb starting.

Interesting, I felt the same way. Others on the site hyped and loved Eron Riley, too, who is no longer with the team.

I'd vote Jimmy. The more experience he gets, the better he'll be later in the season when we need him. I always compare him to C-Mac because that's who he reminds me of, and C-Mac started pretty early his first year, too. Not that they are the same guy, but I think, just like C-Mac was ready, so is Jimmy.

I'd put Jimmy on Crabtree in an effort to match physicality on physicality, then put Webb on Ginn to match speed with speed. I think Jimmy is ready to perform. Just needs to get those Rookie jitters out of the way.

While Jimmy made a great play on that pick, he did the one thing was inexcusable on that all out blitz, he let his man behind him for a TD. Not only did this allow a TD, but it allowed a TD with very little clock used and it provided the way for the Bengals to come back. He also made a careless mistake not protecting the ball on the run back, something we were fortunate to recover from. But I agree, put him in there as the 3rd, keep getting him experience, not quite sure why its taken us all the way till the Bengals game to get him involved.

Agree totally, I've been saying this for a few weeks now.

JSmith isnt like C-Mac at all in my mind. The only thing they have in common is their press ability. CMac was a tad shorter, heavier, and a better tackler. C-Mac played with an absolutely nasty disposition, something I havent seen in JSmith. C-Mac also generally didnt struggle as much as JSmith does in off coverage and was a better zone corner.

wait...you're judging Jimmy on his first reall playing time in a game situation? You're just being silly and attempting to act like you have enough film of Jimmy to even claim this stuff.

Right now I like our CB tandem with Cary, Ladarius, and Smith when we need him. Smith is a monster on those slant routes, but (as others have mentioned) needs work in press coverage.
Are people forgetting how clutch Cary has been this year (excluding bengals)?

It was NOT jimmys fault on the TD pass for the last time!!! It was even said by the D he thought he had safety help behind him so he sat on the route to cover the sticks smh man that gets to me!

In the end, it doesnt even matter. We need every corner to play to near perfection. If one steps in and get blown out in one critical play, that might be the only play for us to lose our season.

I think we need to work him in more and more as the season progresses. Aside of the TD, I thought he was very solid on Sunday and I expect him to have taken Cary's spot by the end of the season.

Jimmy still has some things to learn about the position, but he's well on his way to supplanting Cary if Cary continues to get torched by mediocre-at-best WRs.

Again either way it's still a beautiful problem to have!! Webby could possibly make the pro bowl wich I hope not cuz that means he's playin in the superbowl :) but if Cary presses a little more I think he will get better it's still basically his rookie season he's still learning to be a starter n Jimmy has every tool to be elite so just give him more playing time to get up to speed n work out the rookie kinks

Agreed. It was reported that the Defense only got half the call and that Reed was supposed to drop into coverage instead of blitzing, but he didn't get that part and just blitzed. If ever there was a need for a timeout, it was in that situation.

If I'm not mistaken I think I seen Jimmy have one ball caught on him n that was the short slant in which he was all over it but just a great throw n catch

Jimmy excels in press coverage.

The very idea of "clutch" is the most useless thing in football. He gives gigantic cushions and has been torched far too often this year. Cary's an average/maybe slightly above average CB. There's nothing wrong with him but he needs to improve if he wants to hang on to that starting spot over Jimmy.

When I was at the game and Jimmy came in I made it a point to just watch him, and boy did he disrupt the Bengals' WRs at the line. He should always be in press-man coverage. He's a monster.

Cary has been playing great this year. I think we should keep easing Jimmy in and take it slow with him. Give him a couple more games

do people forget this is basically cary williams rookie year to? i dont think he had a live snap before this year on defense, i could be wrong. So all things considered hes done really well too. they seem to leave him on an island alot aswell. he jumped to early on the first long ball, but had almost perfect coverage, and on the second they clashed legs and again he was right on top of the receiver and may have broke it up.. hes had a few blown coverages but hes learnign the ropes aswell.

He is twice the player when he is being physical at the line compared to off coverage, does bump and run or standing 7/8 yards off (chris carr) come from the coach and the play design or does the CB do it as he sees fit depending on who is lined up against him?

because i think cary and jimmy should be bumping every play, gives the pass rush more time aswell

So who would you compare Jimmy to? Nnamdi, maybe? Both of them are excellent at press coverage. I guess my point is though I think Jimmy is on a talent level similar to both Nnamdi and C-Mac (meaning top-3 CB in the league potential), and he his younger and needs experience. I think given time he could turn into one of the top corners in the league, so I'd like to see him in over Cary Williams. And getting young players the chance to start as early as possible has really paid dividends the last few years (Joe Flacco, Ray Rice, Michael Oher, Ladarius Webb, Pernell McPhee, Torrey Smith, Dickson and Pitta, ect.), so if our future is in theory supposed to be Webb and Smith starting, why wait?

As was said before, this is Cary's first year as a real starter. He hasn't been spectacular but he's been solid, and if it weren't for him we'd have gotten blown out against Seattle.
