When the Ravens have a really big game coming up , I like to get a little head start on my drinking too , but this is ridiculous.

That's just what the Generator says. However, I'd see it more like a 21-19 game, with a late 4th-quarter field-goal by Cundiff to put the pressure on A. Smith to HAVE to score the TD. The defense makes a stand and gets the ball back within the 2:00 warning and 49ers with no time-outs.

Baltimore Makes A statement ...

28 - 9

Ravens will should stop the run .. The 49ers Cant pass for anything unless the run gets going .. plus i dont see there corners or safteys containing Torrey Smith or the linebackers covering the TEs .. I think the 49ers D will shut out the run tho ..

So there really IS a 'Generator'. Ha , I thought you were making it up.

Me and the Generator think a lot alike. I had the Ravens with one less FG , but otherwise we matched up :

27-23 Ravens
Both of these teams will be playing for their coaches. Ravens have the better talent on offense and defense.

the Ravens will play very well on both sides of the ball and get the win at home for themselves and John to go 8-3 on the season so far.

Ravens 21
49ers 10

Yes, there really is a generator. I put about two-hours worth of work into it each week (not counting all the printing out of stats on Tuesday mornings). It's designed JUST for Ravens games. It takes historical stats plus modern stats, they all go into a complex (and constantly changing) algorithm within Excel.

Earlier in the season, it had predicted a Win against the Titans & a loss to the Jags... however, since the Ravens loss to the Seahawks, I went back through the list and it has "self-corrected" and turned the Titans game into a loss as well. As for the Seahawks game, it still shows a Ravens win, but only by a 50.2%-to-49.8% margin. So, take it for what you want.

It's not perfect, but it's getting closer to predicting wins-and-losses; the ultimate goal is to get it to predict with some hint of accuracy the final scores and stats (passing, rushing, etc.).

A snapshot of the remaining schedule can be seen below. As you can see, it has them winning out the rest of the season. But as said before, it's not perfect.

That's a nice piece of work. I hope the predictions for the rest of the season pan out.

I'm curious , do you feed in things like P.Manning being out for the Colts ? Also , is there some reason the scores seem to cluster around 20 pts. ? Is that just what works out to be around average for most NFL teams over time ?

Here's a stat for you.

Teams that travel across the country (more than 1500 miles) to play in an NFL Thursday Night Game are 0-11 and 0-11 against the spread.

Raven players seemed to be really fired up about this game based on comments they made today. I think John told them what an [profanity deleted] Jim was when they were growing up.

27-10 Ravens....

In a sense, yes. It doesn't know which player is at which position, nor does it care. It just looks at the more recent data (Painter's stats) and compares/contrasts those to historical numbers and it makes an "educated" guess.

As for the 20-pts part of your question, over the past 16-years (up to this past week with the Bengals), the Ravens on average force 21-points per game while allowing 18-points. However, in the Harbaugh-era, it has forced an average of 24-points per games while allowing just 17-points per game. So, it takes that data, mixes it in with historical data between the Ravens and their given opponent. Mixes that with the current data from their opponent. And thus you get those numbers.

You'd really just have to see how extensive the workbook is to see how it all kind of comes together. So in short, yes. Historically, that is just where most NFL games seem to lie is in the 21-point range.

I thought the same thing after we beat Pitt and had the Seahawks next up on our schedule. There is no way we will............damn we lost!
Oh I know, I thought the same thing too! But the 49ers are supposedly a great team and therefore, complacency shouldn't be a problem.
A 9-1 record is impressive and all, especially for an up and coming team with a new HC, but until they beat us and/or Pittsburgh they aren't a real threat to me.

From what I am reading, No one here has even seen a 49ers Game, and just looking at stats.

49ers have been misunderstood due to "just looking at Stats".....

I am sure you guys will have your excuses ready for the end of this game...

Woah now. Don't lump us all together. I've watched a lot of the 49ers games this year and have given respect to them.

And I agree about the excuses part. Its something that drives me crazy. We always want to examine other teams excuses after a loss and poke fun at them. But then when we lose, we lay a ton of excuses out ourselves.

Here are some of the things I've learned from watching the 9ers this year:
1) Drafting all those guys on the O-Line is paying off.
2) Alex Smith is making all the RIGHT throws and he is protecting the football
3) Carlos Rogers has found his hands that were missing in WASH
4) 9ers front 7 is quick and strong and can get to the ball quick.
5) Justin Smith is all around real-deal.
6) Gore is Gore. He is a hard rusher with speed.

Niners are 3-0 on the east coast this year, including Cincy. 4-0 if you count the Lions (not really, but it's over 1500 miles). Maybe there's something there with it being a TNF game, but you can't really count this as a lock for us to win though I'm not betting against us.

They remind me of us in Flacco's rookie season. Lots of running, lots of defense, lots of efficiency. If we're gonna beat them, yes, defense has to stop the run, but the offense MUST execute. Something tells me we're not gonna get a lot of opportunities to score, unless it's on D.

I am an estimator as well. I once tried to come up with something for gambling purposes. I failed. There are just too many instances in a football game where anything goes. I was correct maybe 85% of the time but upsets kill you...even if you are up one week you can have 1 game a week totally annhilate you i.e. Jags and Seahawks or those Saints and Pats upset games this season. Good god the Stupid Bills always screw me. I swear. They ruined our homefield playoff game over the steelers last season and this season they wiped me clean. Pats over Bills was a solid money maker for almost 10 years!

Stupid gambling.

You seem to be onto something though. Nice work
