I Know This Is Way To Early, But I'm Bored And Wonder...

21 posts in this topic

I know this is early, but I believe Santa knows I've been a "good boy" this year and will grant my wish - the end of the Cam experiment in Baltimore. I know some people have been in favor of a guy like Norv Turner if he became available as an offensive coordinator, but I'd rather find someone who prefers the West Coast System. As many of you know, we currently run the Air Coryell system of offense which emphasizes power running and a strong vertical offense. The problem with this style of offense is that it requires very specific types of players i.e. a strong-armed quarterback, two vertical wide receivers, fast tight ends, a pounding running game, and a great offensive line.

While we have many pieces in place, it still needs all of these things to be working all of the time to be successful. And more importantly, looking back through the history of guys who ran it, Philip Rivers might be the only quarterback ever to post a qb rating of 100 or better while running the system. Troy Aikman ran it, and for all that he's a HOFer his highest qb rating was 93.6 and he has a career qb rating of 83.6, all while playing in the 1990s. By comparison, guys who played in earlier, more defensive-friendly times but in the WCO, such as Joe Montana and Steve Young flourished in it, and guys like Tom Brady and Matt Hasselbeck employ variations on it and do well. Jim Zorn is a huge advocate of it, and I'm of the opinion that, more than anything, it was Zorn's influence and ideas that led Joe to such a great season last year.

I think the WCO is a much more personnel-friendly system, and all of our current players could flourish in it since they can all run after the catch. It seems to also be able to mask offensive line deficiencies better than what we do now. More importantly, it also maximizes completion percentage, meaning in theory there would be fewer three-and-outs, more sustained drives, and the defense wouldn't be gassed from being on the field so long. It definitely seems to be a quarterback-friendly system in terms of making it easier on a quarterback to find open receivers. I know it requires a quarterback with great anticipation and timing, but I think Joe is certainly capable of that. People say he holds the ball too long, but how much of that is related to the fact that our receivers run longer routes? If they all ran short routes and got open quicker, I think his strong arm, while it may lead to some drops, would lead to a lot of quick completions and good room for receivers to gain YAC, which is another key to the WCO. Obviously in any case I think Cam needs to see the door, but any thoughts on the type of system to replace it and who might be able to run it?

My dream OC would Mike Martz. With Rice,Pitta,Boldin,Evans,Smith Dickson,Leach and Flacco Martz would make us a force to be reckoned with.I think the most logical would be Childress in my opinion. If we were to fire Cam today which i would do even if we bet the 49ers, i would want childress in a minute.Either him or Billick if we were to fire Cam today. The thing is even though Cam called a decent game against Cincinatti, he took his foot of the gas and got conservative on some 3rd and shorts and even the 3rd and goal when we wanted to throw instead of pounding it in with rice leach or williams. He is a decent oc but not good.Even if we win the Superbowl, I would still let Cam go because he doesn't give us the best chance to repeat. If we do win it all I would go after Childress, Billick or Martz. If the Bears have slide, which they might now that cutlers gone, I would go after Martz in a minute

Martz offense is way too elaborate for teams to learn. His blocking schemes are even tougher. Why do you think Cutler is on his back so much? Why do you think he didn't work put in Detroit? His scheme is highly effective of executed properly, but is highly elaborate as I said before. If you think executing Cams offense is tough, bring Martz in and watch us crumble our first season under him.

Childress or Norv for me

Well if this is asking Santa for a wish........

Make the Texans fall flat without Schaub costing Kubiak his job and thus the Gary Kubiak Era as OC in Baltimore can begin in 2012!

Martz would have Flacco killed.

I haven't really seen much power running this year.

Norv Turner please.

I get what u mean but if you look at it the bears dont have the personnel that mike needs plus that o line is arguably the worst in the league. I always say the we have the personnel but not the best coordinator and the bears have the best coordinator but not the personnel.

Cam hasn't done too badly recently. Our offense for the past few weeks has been pretty much on. Besides the run game improving we can't ask for much more. It's been turnovers that killing us, and Flacco missing on a few passes that would have kept drives alive. But we put 31 points up on Cinci, and we put it in nuetral in the 4th. Flacco has never had a game that good against a Mike Zimmer dfense. And what Flacco has done to Pittsburgh this year... speaks for itself. I think Jim Zorn would have made Flacco elite this year, but even without him our offense is hitting stride, and i think those wrinkles are starting to smooth themselves out.

5 carries for Rice against Seattle does not constitute "pretty much on"...sorry!

No, its just his offense.

That o-line is bad. But Martz made it look a lot worse than it is.

Even Kurt Warner has said that Martz's offense will get QB's hit a lot more.

If we dont have 3 turnovers in the first half i see Ray getting more carries. But i get your point.

Even supposing they lose all of their games and finish 7-9, do you think Houston management would fire Kubiak? Because if he was available I'd personally walk to Ozzie Newsome's house and beg him to hire Gary.

no way kubiak gets fired... His 3 most important players are either out for the season or missing consoderable time..
And with how that defense is playing, there isnt anyone in the division that will pass em

You mean like make paragraphs? Sorry, I tend to get carried away when I write a lot of my posts. But I'm pretty sure I have proper sentences and spaces between them. Tried to make it at least somewhat more approachable.

The way the Chargers' schedule finishes up, it looks like Norv could be available. The last 4 teams they play all have winning records, and they have to deal with "The Tebow effect (I don't know how, but somehow the Broncos are winning)" and the Jaguars' defense.
