Ha, and I continue my disdain for DeSean Jackson - http://sports.yahoo....urn=nfl-wp13013

On topic - Torrey Smith is the man and has a monster game on Sunday!

Honestly, I think he's just afraid of getting hurt before getting paid.
But he's not going to get his money now, he's basically killed any chances he had at getting overpaid. He'll be lucky to get a decent offer from the Eagles at this point.

When I saw Torrey dropping into the second round I was more excited than when we had nabbed Jimmy in the first. Then BAM he falls right into Ozzie's lap and ended up going where he always meant to go.

You compare him to another fast guy, and rightfully so. But I say that's where the similarities end. Torrey to me has way more upside and that goes for on and off the field. In a few years Torrey will be one of our emotional and spiritual leaders as well as being an explosive and dynamic weapon for the offense.

Some earlier in this thread say it's too early to start comparing Smith to someone like Wallace. Well, I say we take it a step further and say that more than a few people have compared him to the likes of....Jerry Rice!

O_o I can smell the skepticism now but hear me out.

Like Jerry, Torrey fell in the draft due to perceptions of his ability to run all the routes and catch all the balls. He didn't have freakish size, with small hands and maybe just better than average speed. But Walsh saw a guy that played a little faster than his 40 time suggested, and took a chance on a high character fellow.

Well now doesn't that sound familiar? Torrey ran a helluva fast 40, but he was hurt when he ran it which they say hurt his score. Torrey is tall but not freakishly so, and he has smaller than average hands (like Jerry.) Plus he is a nice guy, so people questioned his toughness and ability to take a hit at the NFL level. All in all things that have been nonsense judgements based too much on measuring everything except intangible things. Yet it is intangible things that make all the good players great players. Besides who cares what someones 40 yard dash time is when they aren't wearing pads or having to run around for 2+ hours?

Jerry fell because his 40 was abysmally slow for a receiver - I believe he ran a 4.6 or 4.7. Q also ran a 4.6 or 4.7 40, and so he fell.

And Rice had pretty big hands.

Agreed. DeSean cost his team 51 yards on one play because he is so full of himself (he just can't help it). That is why the Eagles are full of individuals instead of being a team.

Most receivers are, but Torrey doesn't strike me as that type of guy and I like that. I think Torrey will benefit the most from a full offseason with Flacco.

I still think Mike Wallace is better all around, and the Steelers have morphed into a full-fledged passing attack team. Hopefully the Ravens will do the same but I don't think that'll happen with Cam around.
