Dear Chuck Please Stop Using Prevent Defense!

15 posts in this topic

I will start this by saying congradulations on the HUGE win yesterday! Im not trying to be negative here but I do have one issue I'd like some feed back from my fellow Raven Nation:

Is it just me or is Chuck going back to prevent mode alot lately? I thought he saw in the first Steelers game that prevent defense is not how to play like a Raven! We are at our strength when we put our ears back and get after the L.O.S. with reckless abandon!!

This passive style of play reminded me of Mattison... it really made the game closer than it should have been... Dalton had enough time to go through his progressions two to three times and just pick us apart like a half dozen of crabs! We are the best in the business when our D is allowed to stay aggressive the entire game! Im not saying bring the house on every play, but mix up the blitzers, use stunts and shifting at the line more Chuck...

So again, I must emphatically beg you to never put us into a prevent stupor again! If I never see another prevent for the rest of my life it will be too soon! Im surprised Ray Lewis didn't smack ol Chuck upside the head on the sidelines! Lol

Thank you in advance for your consideration of this request.

The city of Baltimore

PS: Great win

We blitzed alot (in our defense a 4 man rush is a blitz) and a lot of times through out the whole game Dalton's O-line gave him JUST enough time to get the ball off. Watch for it if you can watch the game again. Its was much like the Titan's game, the QB got rid of the ball at the end of his drop, he rarely held it at all.

The prevent seems to work better for the Ravens on shorter fields , and when they don't use it all the time. I don't think the way Pagano has used it has been bad at all , especially compared to last year with Mattison.

Ok, I can be wrong here but it seemed like we weren't penetrating with our zone approach, and Dalton wasn't even pressured but a couple of snaps. i don't know what was/is missing but our pressure leaves alot to be desired... Someone suggested to bring Krugger and McPhee in on 1st and 2nd more and rotate JJ and Redding in on 3rd downs...

Not sure this fixes the problem as JJ is good in run support... I wouldn't mind seeing if this could be effective though. Another scenario could be to actually us Sergio Kindle... remember him? Give Kindle some snaps, I'd like to think he could handle 3rd down situations by now...

Since when is sending 4 guys a blitz?

It's not...its our base pass-rush when we are in sub packages.

I hate the prevent too, it only prevents the team using it from winning

Maybe Pagano can explain to me where the chaos went? that reckless abandon....our pass rush has not been getting home, now the Bengals had a good OL but against Seattle? They were one of the worst and we got nothing....How injured is Suggs? How about Ngata? Pernell McPhee looks good and he will improve, like next year he might be a BEAST for sure...and Kruger, really like seeing him on the field.

I will give props to our secondary, Cary WIlliams got 4 passes defensed yesterday...thats a lot for one game...Webb is playing at the highest level I've ever seen him at....Jimmy Smith did some good with that INT..but some bad fumbling it away and then getting beat for a TD on a series later...

The youth movement for the most part seems to be working, we got younger on offense and defense...its the perfect mix

Off topic: But how about Kruger and McPhee! It helps me knowing that when Ray and Ed leave we will still have great young talent and veteran leadership with Suggs,Ngata,Kruger,McPhee,Jimmy Smith,Webb,Cody.
And on offense Torrey Smith and Joe Flacco are only going to get better, Dickson and Pitta also. I just had to get out my joy when I thought about it lol
