Boldin Is A Beast In The Slot

15 posts in this topic

i absolutely love watching Q play from the slot. he doesn't have the speed like Torrey or Lee to be on the outside but over the middle...wow! i've been rolling on his catch and then TD smash on that bengal defender in the endzone and then he just jumped up!

Boldin can have the same effect on the defense as Rice does - the D focuses so much on stopping them that it creates gaps in coverage elsewhere. People often look at the stats for Rice in a game and say that we shouldn't have given him the ball so much because he only averaged 3 yds/ carry , while the passing game was picking up good yardage. Well , at least part of the reason the passing game was working is because Rice was getting those carries.

Yesterday's game is a case where Boldin may have served a similar role. Only one catch on two targets , but how much did he occupy the Bengals' D , leaving more space for other receivers to work ?

Boldin did well to find the open space out there and Flacco did well to go through his progressions when he saw Torrey Smith was double covered.

I hope to see Lee and Torrey on the outside, Thursday night so Q can work the middle of the field!

The beauty of Boldin is not his consistency in the slot but yards after the carry... Oh the confusion with the unbalanced Offensive line on that one play was great...

The other thing the Boldin play showed was the value of effective play-action , and PA only fools people if they think you might really run the ball. We had no PA credibility during most of the Seattle game , so even if we had run more snaps under center , we wouldn't have fooled them with a play like Boldin's TD yesterday.

With Torrey and Lee pulling the safeties back with their speed, it opens up a world of possibilities for Boldin in the slot. This is going to be a key to beating the 49ers.

That combination would wreak HAVOC on any opposing team.. Imagine our speedsters popping the top off defenses and, Dickson and Bolding working the middle of the field with Ray Rice sneaking around the corner... I mean we cant do it all game but

When Boldin get's a full set of plays with him in the slot, and the chemistry goes up, that attack is going to be freaking dangerous.

Someone tell Cam that.

I couldn't catch most of the game yesterday, but I'll assume he wasn't slot very much since he only had 1 catch. (great one nonetheless)

A lot of us here knew he'd be more of a threat in the slot before Cam decided he'd try it. Hopefully he sticks to it now because the offense has the potential to be lethal.
