Joe Flacco Vs Alex Smith

I just thought of something... If Alex Smith is a game manager, and the 49ers are 9-1, he must be a pretty dang good game manager.

Exactly.

Besides , what are we supposed to want in our QB as an alternative , that he's a good game mis-manager ?

No thanks. With Cam , we're overloaded with that talent already.

Well I come back from a week of work and of COURSE this is a thread at the top of the forum. Do I even go glean from stats from both QBs? I'm tired folks, so I'm sorry. How many playoff games has Smith won? How many games in general? Oh. Okay. Joe will win this game because he's been here loads before and he knows what needs to be done.

Flacco is unpredictable & makes to many mistakes. Only upside lately is he is finally showing some emotion & hope he keeps improving on that.
Another issue with Flacco, leadership. He is not a leader and it shows.

Uh...yeah. It has nothing to do with the unpredictable play of our O line this season. Or the fact that this is only his 2nd year with his #1 receiver, or that his #2 is a rookie, or that his TEs are also 2nd year (might as well be rookies if you go by playing time) nor that he lost his 2 favorite targets. Nothing at all to do with the odd play calling this season or the huge increase in deep low percentage passes. He was the 2nd most consistently successful QB from Week 2 forward last season but no, none of those things have anything to do with his inconsistency this year.

I mean, the man can't even beat our nemesis...oh wait. Yeah we swept them in fine style.

Still, yeah, he's no leader.

Both Smith and Flacco are good QB's. They both opperate their respective O's well. If the questain is who is more gifted? I think it's Flacco. He has superior athletic ability and a stronger arm. However, this year i would hate to live on the diffrence.

I never expected the 49ers to have a good season this far. Coming from a terrible one last year, they have benefited from a soft schdule. They played the Seahawks and beat them as we should have. They lost to the Cowboys. After that, they have been on a roll. The law of averages is not in their favor. The Bengals held them to 13 points. They squeaked past the Eagles. There most impressive wins were the Lions and the Giants. They have been lucky. It's time the luck runs out. Reality check. The Ravens will rock Smith and knock Gore out of the game. We will win after going ahead by 2 TDs and holding on to the lead with strong defensive play in the 4th quarter. Flacco is getting better and more confident in throwing to Smith. Bombs away boys.

Tebow is 4-1 without throwing the ball this year. Sometimes the rest of the team carries the QB.

END OF DISCUSSION

Seriously...Just NFL network trying to stir up controversial debate. Look at the career stats for crying out loud. Like everyone said, this game told the whole story. Its a shame Reed dropped that pick, he could have taken that to the house.

This is why you can't put money in the short term. "Alex Smith is playing great football", yeah, for a few weeks. Now he has his first real challenge and the bandwagon loses a wheel. You gotta think long run. What has your QB shown you overall? Who do you want as your quarterback for years to come? Joe's short term failures have people all over him, but in the long term, the real QBs are exposed as real ones and the pretenders are eliminated.

The only reason the 49'ers are where they are is because of that run game (Gore) and their Defense...

...but the Ravens defense showed up tonight and showed the nation just who is the boss

and Flacco took us on that game winning drive once again..I didn't see Alex Smith make ANY drives like that...

Smith is good for 5-15 yard throws and that's it. RARELY will he challenge anyone downfield. But people get caught up with the team winning and automatically dub him as the next great quarterback. This game was exactly what those people needed to see

I really don't understand how that run game got them to 9-2. Frank Gore is one of the most overrated backs in the league, when you take off The U blinders, and Smith's passing shouldn't scare anyone into taking 8 men out of the box. Tack on that extremely overrated offensive line and the 49ers just may be the worst 9-2 team in NFL history. Must be nice playing in a cupcake division. And I'm not just talking smack because the Ravens won, I really don't think the 49ers are as anywhere near as good as everyone has been preaching. I think the only reason the game was this close was because the team was being too conservative, only wanting to beat Jim and not embarrass him.

Got to say I disagree completely. They have only played two games in there division(granted they won both, but the saying "cupcake division" is way to overused). That "cupcake division" has played us very tough this year and this is the NFL no teams are pushovers.

I do not watch college ball so I know for sure I don't have "The U blinders" on I know that for sure. I actually think Gore is a very tough and good running back(pretty good blocker also). The 9ers just ran into a very good team and one that was playing at top level(at least on defense).

I'm sorry but that division is dreadful. Sure, Seattle played us tough.. but if you give any team the ball back not once, but twice on special teams fumbles that close to your endzone.. you're not going to win ( Anyone else see David Reed blow yet another special teams play tonight? What happened to this guy :P ).

Oh I didnt mean to make it seem like I thought they were good(haha), just meant its the NFL anyone can beat anyone on any given week. Overlooking teams is what hurts some teams sometimes.

Maybe I am wrong but I really do not think that the 9ers are overrated( I just think we are better!) Guess I just have a little respect for them because they are one of, if not the only team, in the NFC that plays like we do. Either way it was a great game tonight!

They're better than I expected on Defense, that's for sure. I'm not going to say they're defense is Ravens/Steelers status after watching that game, but I'll give them credit.. they played well. They wanted to stop the run and the deep-ball and did just that.

I'm not going to say they're overrated anymore, I reserve that for the Lions.. I just can't place much stock in a team after one successful season (so far), where their biggest off-season acquisition.. after being a mediocre at best football team for a number of years, is a head coach. If they can do something like this again for the next season or two, then I'll believe.

I'll certainly root for them to beat Pitt, though :)

This. I see this as a very possible loss for the Steelers as they play in SanFran.

Niners will learn from this, make adjustments and improve
A lot of their message board seem positive.
Well a few comments about cutting their right guard and making him walk home lol

I definitely see them beating the Steelers

Can we please put the Flacco Vs. Smith comparisons to bed now?? Flacco is in his 4th year and looks every bit capable of winning us a Super Bowl and has proven to me that he is more than just a game changer, whereas Smith is in his 6th (If I'm correct) season, and was the epitome of a game manager last night. Once we started shutting down the run, he had absolutely nothing. A game manager cannot come back from defecits more than 3 or 4 points, and thats exactly what happened last night.

Smith's actually in his 7th season. Came out in the 2005 draft #1 overall.

Well I gave him too much credit then lol. That means Smith is in his prime, which also means that he will never be anything better than a game manager, who, when under duress, stinks it up.

On the Dennis Pitta TD the pocket was collapsing around Joe Flacco yet he stayed in there and drilled a bullet for the score right before going down. The pressure didn't make him panic and he stood tall in the pocket and delivered a strike. Pressure didn't phase him unlike the other QB.
