Do We Really Have A Superbowl Team? Or Just Posing As One?

130 posts in this topic

As for AFC post season I would not be susprised if Pittsburg, Cincy and Ravens make it in hopefully we win the division are fate is is out hands. Unfortunatly that means Flacco will need to step up and be the man in charge as he should consistanly. I will go rite back to it Flacco needs to develop into the one calling the shots and the leader on the team. Thats my two cents

while i agree a team can win a Super Bowl once in a while without elite QB play, my post(s) have more to do with the Ravens lack of consistency, Joe is not the problem, his numbers are hurt by the poor play of others, yes he misses on some throws..but its like the same thing last year all over again, he has to carry the offense again because we have no run game but last year guys weren't dropping balls left and right, this year they are and its hurting his numbers

we lost to Seattle because we turned the ball over, missed FGs and the defense couldnt get to the QB, couldnt shut down the run, couldnt get off the field

the offense stalled with no run game, and dropped passes..honestly if they made that stop at the end, i believe Joe would have drove us down the field to win for the 3rd week in a row

the loss in seattle cam from more than droped balls and missed FG ok look at the math I get that two dropped balls = 6 seahawks points and two missed FG means we did not get 6 points. How many did we lose by 5!! I know the math makes since. But also how many three an outs did we have? How many reads did Flacco miss (alot) Again we are stuck with Flacco I hope he gets better but gotta say 4 years later and we are in the same spot. Our Wr I think are just as good as any other WR core around the league. Look at GB those guys look great but how much of that is because of rogers? Indy WR used to be the best no manning is gone and they are awfull. Boldin what happen to all the numbers he posted when he had warner? Sorry I just do not want to see more years invested in a guy who just will not develope or at least step up and take the rains. Maybe its Cam maybe he needs to go he sucks two who knows but I go back to the QB. Also the Deffense let up at the end of the game how long was that D on the feild they do get worse as the game goes on due to fatigue. Maybe if we did not go 3 and out routinly they would have had a little more in the tank for that finale stand?

Lets break this down point by point because I am bored:
(A) Flacco is not the same QB he was as a rookie. Frist, our team is not the same as when he was a rookie. We were a run first offense that put as little responsibility as possible on Flacco. He played well as a rookie, but in absolutely no way could he take over on offense. We saw at Pittsburgh what he is capable of doing when called upon. He is cool and poised under pressure, and makes good decisions for the most part. Sure he misses some throws or reads at times, but you could say the same about every QB.

( B ) Our WRs are not one of the best in the league. Are you kidding me? Boldin may be a top 15 receiver still, but he is not a true #1 at this point in his career. He is strong and physical and a great pass-catcher, but he lacks speed and any type of explosive ability. When he was in Arizona he also had the best WR in the game playing across from him. If we had Fitz on our team Boldin would be better, but we dont have someone nearly that caliber. Still Boldin is on pace for 1100+ yards which is pretty much on par with what he did in Arizona. Torrey Smith has speed, but he is not a polished route runner and he drops a lot of balls. Our number 3 WR is an undrafted FA. Dont tell me we have one of the best WR corps in the NFL...thats just a ridiculous statement. Maybe when Lee Evans comes back you could make some argument, but not yet. Give Flacco Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, James Jones, Jermichael Finley, and Randall Cobb and you would see a completely different QB.

( C ) Once again if you dont think Flacco has developed I have to question what game you are watching. He is our QB of the future despite his inconsistencies this year. There are a multitude of reason why Flacco has struggled. He needs to have better ball security and he has had some accuracy issues, but we have seen a ridiculous number of drops as well. There are lots of young receivers out there who are not doing what they are supposed to do at times, and it does take time to gain chemistry with players that prior to this season he had 0 experience playing with. We have also had a very inconsistent Oline again and our running game has been non-existent at times. A lot of blame goes to Cam and a lot goes to the players, Joe included. We simply need to stop making the mistakes if we are going to be a SB Contender.

( D ) This part I will agree with you. Our defense did come unglued at the end of the game last week. I have to think that fatigue was an issue considering that Seattle had a 10min advantage in TOP. Why such a discrepancy? well 2 fumbles on Kick Returns have a lot to do with that, as well as the Interception that halted a drive. There were also a couple 3 and outs that definitely did not help the cause, but I wouldnt say we go 3 and out routinely, except for the Jacksonville game that I have burned from my memory.

Nobody saw the Giants beating New England in superbowl either.

Honestly, that one caught me off-guard. After the Raiders playoff game, I expected the Ravens to defeat the Giants on 2/28/01. How about we pull off a super victory 11 years after the first one at the end of the season that featured the date 11/11/11?

To tell you the truth, I think we are a Superbowl contender. We play GREAT against good teams, but bad against bad teams. The playoffs (if we make it), will be full of good teams. Hopefully Rice, Flacco,Boldin, Smith, Lewis, Reed, Suggs, and the rest, will play amazingly in the rest of our games.

Hard to hit the right keys in the dark last night. Funny thing is that I have a Super Bowl pennant hanging on the bathroom wall and look at it every time I go in there. Sorry 1, I don't usually read names only posts. LOL.
