Ravens Draft 2009

108 posts in this topic

I know its far away, and it has nothing to do with what is going on right now. But Wouldn't you be so happy if the ravens got Vontae Davis and Heyward bey. Ravens are going to have a lot of free agents at key spots like corner, linebacker, and DE. I think think this upcoming draft the ravens need to make a move and get two first round picks, and maybe even offer next years first round pick and a later draft pick to make a trade. Sign all the linebackers, sadly release Rolle and Trevor pyrce. The next draft will be a really important draft for the Ravens, and they will need to do a outstanding job.

Ahh i would kill for us to draft James Laurinaitis the LB from Ohio State.. Once this guy makes it to the NFL, he'll be one of my favorite linebackers easy.. The guy is a ball hawk..

I wouldnt even begin to look at potential draft picks until after the season. I want to see how Fabian Washington works out and whether clayton or demetrius are going to improve. We still should probably draft one of each, but the order is going to be determined by the play on the field this season.

We need a WR like nobody's business. Who are the top prospects coming out of college this year?

I think we need a proven free agent WR over a unproven rookie WR.

Laurinitis is more balanced than Maualuga but both are beasts.

We HAVE to use a 1st rounder this year on a cornerback or wide receiver. Period. The offensive line for the most part has been doing well, so it's not as high as a priority any more in my eyes.

Laurinaitis is THE MOST OVERRATED player in college football no questions asked. Some team will fall for it but he is far from a dominant player. I've seen him in person twice here in Happy Valley. The dude is hype and no substance.

Round 1 WR Heyward-Bey
TRADE 2nd, 7th, and 2009 5th for WR Roy Williams
Round 3 CB Macho Harris (Vontae Davis was torched by PSU at the white out - not impressed at all by him)

You actually think Macho Harris is going to be there in the 3rd Round? I would love that to happen, but chances are slim. I almost forgot about Macho and I would love to have him as well, but I think anyway they can need to get Heyward-bey in the first round.

Macho is too slow for our defense he is strictly a cover 2 corner. PSU actually has a very good WR Derrick Williams IMO he could be a very good pro and I dont know why he is not on my list... ok fixed

You still have some quality players headed to free agency who will fit in our system and not break the cap limit, like WR Devery Henderson, who gets open and stretches defenses, massive LT/RT Vernon Carey, redeemed DE/DT/NT Tank Johnson, and 6'2" CB Chris Gamble who is another good man cover guy with big potential.

With the way free agency has gone the last few years Chris Gamble and Devery Henderson will cost to much. They money we will have to pay to pull one of them in, we might as well go after Roy Williams. Bernard Berrian got 42 million from the Vikings. Henderson can pull atleast that much for a team thats desperate enough. Chris Gamble is going to break the bank as well.

First things first. we need to re-sign ray, suggs, jason brown and hopefully hopefully bart scott. I dont know if it is rolles contract year but i think its time to let him go because he is taking too much cap space. this depends on fabian washington a lot. If he steps up that would be amazing haha. So assuming we re-sign those players i would say we need to go CB first round and not WR. While Cmac is still a great corner I'm worried about injury with him and if he can keep up the speed to keep up with the top wrs in the league. I think as the year goes on our offense will get better and demetrius will begin to emerge as that deep threat we have wanted. I also think it may be time to announce mark clayton as the second first round #89 bust on this team. He has just completely disapperaed the past 2 years. I hope I am wrong on that one. And a question..Does anyone know our cap situation in terms of making those re-signings of Ray Suggs Brown and Scott?

Kevin Barnes went to my High School hes a beast. We ran track together too. If we picked up Heyward-Bey in the 1st and Barnes in the 3rd that would be awesome.

hes probably gonna forfeit his senior season... a lot of agents are pushing their clients to leave early because of the possibility of a new collective bargaining agreement. they have the chance of making more money now than next year

Defense: I agree with us needing to get young a cornerback. I was thinking the same thing during this year's draft but they picked up Fabian Washington to fill that need. I think Washington can be a good #2 corner, but we should look for a #1 top corner very soon. It may be just me but I would absolutely love to see our defense in the 4-3 with JJ and Suggs at the d.ends. Price isn't gonna play forever.
Offense: A big, physical receiver or more depth on the offensive line. Now I'd be the first to admit I'm not sold on Joe Flacco but in my mind drafting a quarterback in round 1 or 2 is always too risky. Back to back drafts where you draft a qb in round 1 or 2 would be a circus, And you don't have to have the best quarterback to win the superbowl!!!
