Jimmy Smith

I agree with most here. Chris Carr has looke quite bad this season. He is a smart player but his size doesn't cut it anymore and I think he lost a step with his hamstring injury.

Time for Jimmy.

Jimmy Smith wouldnt have allowed Golden Tate to burn him

Totally agree. Jimmy Smith needs to play... how else will he learn and get better?

Weird, since Webbs our best CB by far!!

Webb was having a very good game yesterday (especially early on). I don't remember him getting beat, but I'm sure it probably happened later in the game.

I'm impressed with Webb's high level of play this year. Looks like that knee injury was really to blame for his slow output last year.

JSmith needs to be playing, it makes no sense. Clearly he has the best physical tools of any CB on our team and its not even close. He moves Webb inside in the nickel and Webb instantly improves our nickel blitz packages and JSmith improves our outside coverages. I dont know why its so hard to figure out, unless JSmith's ankle still isnt 100%

I am beginning to have serious doubts about this entire coaching staff, with the exception of Pagano probably. We all understand why Jimmy hasn't been on the field, we know the ankle really set him back. But poor decision making there is part of the reason why he was hurt to begin with. I didn't watch a bit of the game yesterday, but judging from what I've read, he still wasn't even in the nickel and dime rotation? If the kid is active as he has been, then he is obviously healthy enough to get into the defensive rotation, not just running down the field as a special teams gunner. Its ridiculous we are even asking why a 1st round pick who is rounding out to get back to 100% isn't seeing the field...

I think over the next few weeks were gonna be seeing alot more of Jimmy. I think by the end of the season it will be Jimmy and Webb starting, and on 3 WR sets we will see Cary move in to the #2 spot and Webb into the nickel. With these three guys healthy, we would have an awesome secondary. Move Carr to Kick Returner or something cause he just aint cutting it.

If Jimmy Smith is health and ready to go then he should be in at least in Nickel. Move Webb to Nickel and let Smith play corner.
If no one knew Carr's number he was easy to spot 25 was chasing the guy he was covering all day- he looks slow to me!!!!
Need to make change could have been difference in the game

Hate to say this, but I'm really questioning the coaching staff's decisions.

The Jimmy should at minimum be our NB, and fighting it out with Cary for the starting spot.

Kindle and Kruger should be getting most of the reps that JJ is getting.

We are throwing the ball LITERALLY 5x more than than we ran it today.

Doss is nowhere to be seen, even though Laquan has shown very little.

Vonta Leach is out there catching passes instead of paving the way for Rice (oh yeah, that's right, we need to RUN the ball once in a while for Leach to do his job).

We need to seriously re-evaluate this coaching staff, from the top down, starting with Harbaugh, and make the appropriate adjustments
We paid they guy, and now we barely use him? The problem I see with having Leach out there is it basically tells the other team "Hey we are going to run it". I would assume that is why Cam always has him flexing out to wide or back and forth to try to confuse the defense. Another issue is we have these two incredibly talented TEs that just keep making plays. I think what we need to do is get back to running the ball more consistently and then we can see some real play-action, but I am not sure how Leach fits into the equation. Right now we are in an offensive identity crisis, and I am not one who usually says we need to have an identity. Cam is out-thinking himself way too much. That much at least is apparent.

I've heard others bring up this theory before, but I dont think it is really the case ... I say that because during his time in Houston, especially the last couple years, seeing Vonta out there normally meant a run was coming. But with a guy like him, it doesn't matter if you know, it's what can you really do about it, other than strap up and try to stop that run game. Besides, pretty much any time a team has a FB out there, you know what time it is...
The problem I have other than not giving RR more than 5 attempts is Cam tries to get cute and use Vonta as RR junior too often.

But I definitely agree -- Cam is outsmarting this entire offense. It's so simple, and he tries to make things so complicated. I remember starting a thread last year, giving my own personal opinions on what the offense should do. Not that I think I know better than Cam, but because these things are so painfully simple and obvious that I just could not comprehend why we weren't doing it (I suggested things like running two TE sets, putting Rice and McGahee on the field at the same time, among others).
Now, we finally run a good bit of two TE sets, and not surprisingly, it has proven very effective. I just don't get it -- there's nothing brilliant about two TE; the effectiveness of it is just a result of completely disguising our intentions, since we can easily run or pass out of that formation. It makes me wonder that if some random internet dude (me) can see that, why in the world can't Cam see it? He is either totally incompetent (which he is not), or he - as you said - outsmarts himself.

i dont get all the facination with Carr going back to last year. Talk about his being our most solid corner was crazy. If by solid you mean you give 10 to 15 yard cushions and then make a tackle after first down, then he was more than solid, he was spectacular! He shouldnt even be on the team, much less the actual field. He is a smart corner that can read, but cant seem to cover at all. Makes you sick and watch him whenever he is on the field. I dont know if they just pick on him because of tape, or if its just that it is his guy that is open every time. Yesterday he couldnt even keep up with a TE or 3rd WR. Sick

After this week, I can only hope the coaching staff is seeing exactly what we are. I understand if Jimmy had shown signs of being shaky in what little action he's gotten, but that certainly wasn't the case. I just wonder if he's still limited at all. Hopefully not, because as good as Webb and Cary have been, Carr is a huge liability out there these days. We need Jimmy and we need him now.

He is still working on that ankle, guarenteed. Give him time to be worked consistantly back into the line up. To run and cut on a recently healed ankle takes time - MORE TIME then you think.
The problem I have with this is the coaching staff obviously feels like he has the ability to run and do some sort of cut moves if they are confident enough to put him on special teams where the chances of aggravating that type of injury and higher. I don't think most teams around the league put their first round draft picks on special teams, that's usually reserved for later round picks and ST specialists. Let me know if I'm wrong though.

This also brings to mind Sergio Kindle, another supposed steal of our draft two years back. He was supposed to be a premier DE/OLB...and if he is healthy, why is he not being involved. You look at teams like New England who have success up front because of depth and rotation, so why don't we implement the same tactics? There's no doubt we have the talent. The coaching staff is probably making the right decisions because they see these players week to week, but I stand by the fact that these young guns we have will not morph into Pro Bowl players next season if they don't get playing time. You need not look any further than T-Sizzle and how well he did in his rookie year and how that translated to a dominant career so far, to show how much that rookie playing time pays off

Carr flat out stinks .Never liked him,not physical ,plays off the receiver too much and on and on .

He is at best a back up .Jimmy smith is so much more talented .it's not even close so why isn't he getting the time?

Carr got abused by Seattle's less than stellar receivers... Bengals have more talent. Jimmy needs to play this week. Period.

Is he the only 2011 1st rd pick not starting???
I don't believe Jake Locker, Nick Fairley, Danny Watkins, Prince Amukamara, Jon Baldwin, or Cam Heyward are starters either.

i hope harbs handles it with jimmy like he did with webb. bring him into the rotation consistently in the second half of the year. well webb was a third rounder and got his playing time. i cannot imagine why we don´t play our high praised first round corner. especially against big guys like rice....smh

he obviously is not showing his worth in practice or he would be in the game maybe next season for this one
well he shut down everybody in the preseason. he always played against the first stringers. other than williams who played against guys who aren´t even on any team right now but still was enough to get a lot of playing time on offense. so this argument pretty much goes nowhere!!!

Locker sitting behind a vet, Fairley was injured(no necessary need start either), Danny who?, Prince was injured as well, Baldwin might work into the rotation before the end of the year and Heyward has a capable starter in front of him. We have a need at this position yet hes getting no playing time and he will need PT because for the team to achieve its goal he will need to be contributing. Teams will spread out our defense and we don't need him learning on the fly during the post season.

Not necessarily true, Kruger early in his career when he got PT contributed and made a key play which won us a Steelers game yet still was kept on the sidelines. Cary Williams performed well last preseason and was still barely activated or rarely played any defensive snaps. I'm not going to say Harbs is playing favorites but if you see someone has potential let them play. Side note, I wouldn't be surprised to see Kruger get the starting nod down the line this season.

You know I'm not even sure why Carr is ahead of Gorrer. In what limited time Gorrer played, he looked way better than Carr ever has; including last year. I hope that the Ravens give spots to players based on merit and not based on who got paid in the off-season.

Even Cary Williams got burned a few times by the Hawks, though he was lucky enough that TJ was the quarterback and couldn't help but underthrow his open receivers. In what limited time we saw Smith play he has been there step for step with every receiver, I'm reminded of his coverage on Dwayne Bowe during the preseason. And if he wasn't healthy I don't think he would've been out there 3 consecutive weeks on special teams.

Anyways my lineup would look like this:

1.Smith

2.Webb

3.Williams

4.Gorrer

5.Carr or Brown(haven't seen enough of him)
