MERGED: At This Rate & We Won't Make The Playoffs

59 posts in this topic

We beat good teams and lose to bad teams, at this rate if we make the playoffs and if the Broncos somehow make the playoffs by winning the AFC West we would actually lose to the Broncos in the Wild card.

Sad truth.

I'll admit to losing my cool over this loss, but after all is said and done there are 3 3-loss teams in the AFC North tied for the division crown, and we own the tie-breaker over both of them right now. We just can' t let another game get away from us.

Browns are pretty sorry too. I wouldn't put it past this team to lay a couple of eggs in those games... yikes.

In the end, we're not as good as we've looked against the Steelers but not as bad as we've looked in our 3 losses...

No Doubt. We still control our own destiny. We hold the tie breaker on the Steelers and we have two games against the Bengals. We know this team has potential. They just need to tap it consistently. Do I think they can do it? Ofcourse. Things change week to week in the NFL so quick.

We're definitely not out of the running by any means, but we have to change our mindset going into games. When it comes to the playoffs and every game is big, we can't expect a letdown the following week. That same principle has to apply to these remaining regular season games

"The saddest thing in the world is wasted talent" .....Thats what hurts me the most

Same here. I really think that this team has the potential to be great, but we will never be great if we continue to play like this.

We're still in the hunt for the division, yes, but it might have cost us home field advantage in the playoffs. Even the best teams can afford to drop a game or two, but the fact remains that we've lost three games to teams we "should" have beaten, and I think most people here feel that, had we tried to approach things differently in each game, we would have won. Case in point, Flacco has no business throwing 50 times a game while Rice has less than 10 carries. The same thing happened in Jacksonville. The surprising thing was that Rice averaged 5.4 yards per attempt in this game. Last week he only averaged 2.8, but still ran for more yards. He was having success today, but wasn't given the opportunity to run. Why?

I understand, but this was our chance to pull away. That is what kills me the most, we had a prime opportunity and we let it slip. Realistically, we have to win out or only lose one more to win the division.

We'll give the Colts their one win this year, just like Cam's dolphins a few years ago.
[/quote]

Then we'll hire Jim Caldwell as our next offensive coordinator. SMH.

It hurts me. McNair's performance in that 2006 playoff game comes to mind when we talk about wasted talent. I think if Boller comes in that game, we possibly win the game, but by the 3rd quarter it was clear McNair was in a daze of which he stayed in for the rest of his career in Baltimore.

Trust me, I know the concerns and I share them. I just thought we could use some much needed optimism. This team truly controls it's own destiny. Sweep the bengals and win it's games and we still get that first round bye.

This team just does not like prosperity. Historically when ever they get a chance to take the spotlight, they fail. Its almost like they like to be slightly behind the lead pack but never be the leader. Its in our DNA or something.

This really doesn't look like a team that's capable of taking care of business, in my opinion. They were finally in first place when the Bengals lost, but they laid an egg for the third time this season against a lousy team. I don't really have confidence in their ability to beat the other losing teams on their schedule.

We played in some tough environments, it was those teams' superbowl, and our offensive coordinator panicked. We need to focus on getting the run game going.

It was a frustrating loss but dang, big ups to T-Jack. Playing injured and he played one of the best games of his career. Lynch was in Beast Mode. They wanted it more and they knew to bring their A game to beat us. We didn't get that memo (Cough Terrance Cody Cough).

For those who don't listen to the Fan, Cody was a little too cocky about beating Seattle on Cover Two with Lardarius Webb. Webb was a class act though

I really have lost confidence as well. It is true, I cannot overlook another team on out schedule, we have lost against teams just as bad. Still I won't write us out yet. We have as good of a chance as any team in our division, record wise, to win it. Just gotta take care of business.

That was the excuse the first two times, and I bought them wholeheartedly. I still do not believe we overlook teams. We just either are better or worse than we really are when it comes to playing. We won against contenders, and lost against pretenders. It would just be easier if we knew where we really stood.

We will find out in January what kind of team we are. But the Bengals and 49ers are Contenders and we play them both within 4 days of each other so we need to have a short memory about the loss itself but take away the good and the bad.

Seriously? We'll miss the playoffs? Talk about fairweather...

Were still in control of the division. If we win out we will win the AFC north, and likely end up with a top 2 seed.

Houston, I believe, is first in the AFC now since they won today.

We have the head to head on both Houston and the Jets.
We have the head to head on the Steelers.
The Bills also lost today.

The Jets or Texans have to be a full game ahead of us to be seeded above us. Won't know off the top of my head how it would have to work for the Patriots to get the seed above us. I don't see the winners of both those divisions finishing a full game ahead of us, and even if they do it'll be 3rd seed. Sucks we'd miss the bye but we'd still have at least one home game.

Oh woe's me! Gloom and doom!

It's not all that bad as it stands right now. Texans are the #1 seed in the AFC. Steelers are #2 team in the AFC. Both with 7-3 records. If the Patriots win, they'd be 6-3 (not sure where we'd stand with tie breakers there.) Houston and Steelers both have a bye week. We play the Bengals @home. If we beat the Bengals, we are right back on top of the AFC and the Division.

Are there issues that need addressed? Yep. We cannot keep losing after big wins to sub par teams and that does come down to coaching to some extent. It is not the "end of the playoffs" or "the end of the season" or "the end of a home playoff game" at this point though.

Well said! Today sucked (again), no doubt. But this wasn't a playoff game where the season is over with a loss. Packers went 10-6 last season, just sayin'...
