Isn't Harbaugh Supposed To Be Special Teams Genuis?

18 posts in this topic

Special Teams have been horrible all season. I'm not JUST talking about David Reed here.

The kickoffs and coverage have been horrible. I complained about it from the very beginning... why is Cundiff not kicking touchbacks every single time? Why even risk a return? Well, you're now seeing teams peel off bigger and bigger returns, routinely getting past the 20 yard line. And HORRIBLE tackling against Arizona that led to a return touchdown.

Then you have kickoff returns... WHY hasn't Harbaugh set a rule that whoever is returning kicks MUST take a knee if he catches it in the end zone? They have taken the ball out of the endzone time and time again... and not gotten back to the 20 yard line. It's STUPID football. What happened to "play like a Raven" they say all the time? Isn't a Ravens supposed to be one of the smartest animals in the world?

Then we have field goals. I know the offense should be doing their job better, and getting shorter field goals. But almost every other NFL team can kick field goals over 50 yards regularly. Sure, the Redskins can't... but that's probably because they are using a kicker that couldn't even win the job here in Baltimore.

The bottom line is.... these might seem like small things right now. Sure, it's only a 5 yard difference if your drive starts on the 15 or the 20. But all these little things add up to another early playoff loss.

This team also has looked FLAT and not ready to play for the 4th time this year. This goes on HARBAUGH, not Cam Cameron.

Flacco isn't even getting a realistic chance at leading this team to the Super Bowl if these coaches can't fix STUPID mistakes that are not new at all... and mistakes happen every week.

Maybe the trip that some of the players took took Club Ibiza in Washington Dc on Friday night had something to do with it. I agree special teams looks like a joke, they have zero running room on returns. We just don't have a legitimate threat in the return game. These games are heart breaking in the middle of a good run so far by the Ravens, but special teams has been the worst i have seen it in years.

Blame David Reed for fumbling or getting a penalty every chance he got. Blame Cundiff for epic failure outside of 50. I don't know how either of those things are anyone's fault but their own.

What are we doing on special teams. Even Sam Coch had a terrible punt (28yds) when we needed a boomer. Never a long return not to mention a TD...pitiful....This is on Harbaugh and I am tired of him saying "well this is the NFL and these are all tough games"....b.s. talk .. take responibility and Fire CAM... Bisciotti must be roasting

The worst part of our game today was, yes, 'Special Teams'. What a joke. I mean, really, a joke! I thought the same thing. Really Harbs is a Spcl Teams Coach. You could've fooled me. Unacceptable! David Reed cannot do that, twice, and expect to play in the NFL.
Harbs is to blame to think Cundiff could make FG's he couldn't in Windy Seattle. Disgusting show of Coaching.

Next.

Hopefully this loss opens the eyes of Harbs to how bad this problem has gotten. A coach hates to be bad in his area of specialty, and Harbs being a special teams minded coach certainly wont like this. I expect to see drastic measures taken this week to address these special teams problems.

yeah, and billick was supposed to be an offensive genius. Just bc you're head coach is an ex-______ coordinator or assistant doesnt automatically mean that part of the team will shine.

Wow David reed gave up 6 points and bundled missed 6. Score should have been 23-16 Baltimore. This one is totally on special teams

Lots of problems here. Why can't the defensive line stop a runner?? Why can't the offensive line open any holes?? Whenever we play a bad team, those things are whats happening. Why? Joe was terrible, Reed was terrible , can't win this way at all.

The best special teams coach in the world can't make David Reed hold onto the ball. The coaches teach, but the players must execute. Harbaugh can't stop Sam Koch - a pro-Bowl quality punter - from shanking a punt, once in a while. Even the best players make mistakes, and you can't blame the coach for him mis-kicking on one play.

After I get in an argument with my wife, I go for a walk and calm down, before discussing the issues that make me unhappy. It helps me to make reasoned, logical responses, and not angry statements with no basis... That may be apropos in this case.
