[Blogs] Who’s Playing, Who’s Not vs. Seahawks

42 posts in this topic

Lee Evans has an “outside chance” of playing Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, according to Head Coach John Harbaugh.

The wide receiver has practiced all week, but only in a limited capacity. He is listed as doubtful on the Ravens’ injury report.

“We’re still working through it,” Harbaugh said. “If we had a situation where we needed him, he could go.”

Thus, it sounds as if the Ravens may wait one more week to re-unveil Evans against the Cincinnati Bengals at home.

Baltimore’s offense has done well despite not having Evans, who they traded for this past offseason. Rookie Torrey Smith has provided the deep threat from the No. 2 spot, averaging 19.9 yards per catch and leading the team with four touchdowns.

Evans has been sidelined since Week 2 with his ankle injury. He was playing through it before, but was shut down to let it fully heal.

Close to two months later, Evans said he has been doing progressively more movement in practice throughout the week, and didn’t suffer any setbacks.

“It’s the best I’ve felt in a while,” Evans said Thursday.

“It makes you feel like a football player again, to get out there with the pads on and run around a little bit. We’ve still got a hill to climb, but it was good to get that step out of the way and press forward.”

Suggs and And Reed Just Rested

Outside linebacker Terrell Suggs (knee) and safety Ed Reed (shoulder) were surprise additions to Thursday’s injury report, but there’s not much reason to fret.

Both returned to practice in full capacity Friday. They are each listed as probable.

“That was more of a rest issue than anything,” Harbaugh said.

Suggs, who suffered a knee injury in 2009, said, “Sometimes things just flare up. It’s the NFL.”

But he laughed at the notion that he wouldn’t be able to play on Sunday.

“It’s not a big deal,” Suggs said. “You all know the story. If I can breathe, I’m good.”

Reed was not in the Ravens’ locker room on Friday to comment, but it’s not out of the ordinary for him to be given a practice off from time to time.

Ayanbadejo Expected To Pass Brain Test

Inside linebacker and special teams ace Brendon Ayanbadejo will take a final brain test Saturday to determine whether he’ll be cleared to play Sunday.

He and Harbaugh said they anticipate he will pass.

“I feel fine,” Ayanbadejo said. “I think I’m going to read online so I can study and see exactly what he’s going to do so I can get a little cheating and get this passed so I can help my team.”
Ayanbadejo said his baseline test was “off” [add quotes] a little bit, which drew some a little bit of concern. His reaction time was a little bit slow, showing the brain hadn’t fully healed. But the expectation is that will happen by Saturday.

Ayanbadejo has been limited in practice all week and hasn’t had any contact. He is listed as questionable on the final injury report.

Ellerbe Is Doubtful, Allen Is Out

Linebacker Dannell Ellerbe had limited practice throughout the week, but is now doubtful to play against the Seahawks.

Ellerbe has been out since the Ravens’ Week 6 game against Houston with a thigh injury that he re-aggravated after originally hurting in Week 3 in St. Louis.

Running back Anthony Allen (thigh) has also been out since the Texans game and will sit versus Seattle.

Seahawks Are Healthy

The Seahawks only have four players on their injury report.

Of note, starting quarterback Tarvaris Jackson (pectoral) and wide receiver Sidney Rice (foot) are both probable to play. Linebacker David Vorora (concussion) has been ruled out.

To sit Evans is a good call.....if we win!

LOL, Under normal circumstances resting him against a less winning team until an important Bengal-Raven show down next week would be a "no brainer". However, the dark side of my brain screams play everyone, just in case!

GO RAVENS!

Okay, there is nothing good about losing a veteran receiver for half of the season. We gave up a draft pick for him and it seemed like a great deal at the time. Still, it worked out well for Torrey. I wish that we had them both out there to add the dimension of speed to offset Q and to free him up more often. It would be great if we could get Lee back for the Bengals game.

I'm glad Ben Grubbs is doing good for now and is back, but I think A. Gurode filled in very well, considering he was playing an entirely new position on an entirely new team. It was a good thing the Raven's acquired him. On another note, how scary is the thought Terrell and Ed would be out at the same time?!! Gotta say, Scared the **** out of me when I saw the injury report!!

It looks like we are saving Evans for the Bengals game. Harbaugh said if we needed him to play he could play. I think its a good call he needed to shake some rust off this week and with next week practice he would have 2 weeks of practice under his belt.

Only thing we need this week, is another 60 minutes of football like last week......We have so much depth, we have won a lot of games with our depth, so when the injured start making their way back onto the field, it will only make us better for the playoff push.....

I truly hope that the fact that Harbaugh mentioned this game early in his postgame locker room speech after the Pitts game, indicates we're serious about coming out and dominating this game. Players say its really hard to be on top of your game 16 games plus the postseason. But we're in the 2nd half and we've had our off games. It is time to approach every game like a must win and get the job done. GO RAVENS!

To be honest I think Ayanbadejo should sit. I don't like him playing off special teams regardless. The guy is a great special teams player, but everytime he gets a snap it seems like other teams target him and he is making a lot of mistakes. Let McClain do the work.

Lets sign T.O.......he can polish shoes on the sideline and fill water bottles.

Did they serve his arrest warrant yet?

I gotta say I'm really looking forward to seeing Anthony Allen get some playing time when he is healthy. I doubt he'll get a whole lot when he does but I happen to think the kid is a hell of a runner. He was consistently laying people on their backs in the preseason.

Glad to hear Evans is close to coming back - our team will keep taking steps forward into the postseason.
I agree with RiceisNice187, Allen was impressive in the preseason, and I was convinced he might have taken up Ricky Williams' job: Ricky is doing fine, but I am glad we are well covered in that position - as for the pass rush [we have Kindle, McAdoo, Bynes to cultivate - on top of the blooming Kruger and McPhee], we can spend our next draft picks elsewhere.

One serious request: could the Ravens apply to the NFL to have all their opponents wear black-and-gold against us?
(if an alternate uniform is needed we could ask for the Jets' white-and-green!)

I like that Dumbo. It seems as though we do play better against the big guys but then again we played well against the Rams. I just get a little more nervous around the "lower" placed teams. Ravens 27, Seahawks 6. Go Ravens.

It would still be nice to see Evans run maybe 10 plays or so just to see how he will work out with Torrey on the other end and Anquan in the slot. Even if Lee is just running clear out routes.
