Lee Evans Update

When Evans come back do yall think he should take the number 2 spot back or should we work him back slowly and put him at the 3 spot? Joe and Torrey is starting to get some good chemistry now and I don't want that to mess up.

It might depend on how he practices. If he "plays" lights out then he'll probably leapfrog a rookie and if he looks like a guy who just came back from an injury he might not.

Evans would be huge for us.

But only if Cam will finally start using the 3 WR set more often. (which I can't see him doing)

If he's healthy, I think we should start Smith and Boldin and give Evans a few snaps in the Hawks game just so he can get back to playing full speed in a game. A fully healthy Evans will really help us in beating Cincy's defense.

It don't matter Evans coming back at this point, and if he comes back on the Seahawks game, he will fight for 3rd/4th slot reciever. Every1 has to earn the spot on the Ravens team.

I think you're forgetting Lee is acutally really good. Smith will be fighting for the #2 spot.

Evans takes over smiths spot, yet with 3 wide receivers sets boldin moves inside and smith and evans on the outside...thats a very scary combination

His record speaks for itself so I wasn't forgetting he's a good WR; his mysterious ankle injury is the one making him less effective as a deep threat. Torrey is hit/miss sometimes, but he and Joe are improving tremendously on chemistry aspect. Evans needs to be on the same page with Joe first before he can put himself in the competition for 2nd spot.

Remember against Pitts game? Joe missed him several times cuz of chemistry thing. It takes Boldin 1yr to build today chemistry with Joe, so Evans is no exception. Torrey is on the better track for 2nd slot because he and Joe work together since the Rams game.

If he was ready against the Steelers, he would have played against the Steelers. Point blank.

You don't hold guys out for that game.
[/quote]

Not so sure about that. I think they would want to get a light(read lower pressure)game with him prior to using him in a big Division rivalry game. They can get a read on his fitness in practice, but they can't get a true read on his ankle outside of a game. After all, he hasn't seen a full game since December.
I just hope we see him soon and also hope he can still turn and burn. Given the length of time he has been out with this type of injury, he may be limited. Hopefully he gets back to 100% and gives us what we have been waiting for. We've been waiting a long time.........

They're not going to play him if he's not ready, I think all of this "give him another week" talk is nonsensical.

He's a professional athlete with some of the best care you can get, if he plays its because they thought he was ready. If its not, its because he's not.

It doesn't matter if he plays in the Seattle game because it would be extremely limited regardless anyway... Because the coaches wouldn't want to reaggravate the injury. He and Joe seemed to have instant chemistry in the preseason.

With all the time off he has had he should definitely know the playbook. Lol

Lee and Torrey on the outside, Q in the slot= MONEY imo.

Completely deadly, just disgusting lol. Joe would be instantly elite if he isn't considered that already.

so i want to ask you guys what you think about that. would you play lee instead of torrey? in my eyes he has earned that number two spot. and first evans has to prove that he is a good number two at this point of his carear coming back from this injury.

what do you think??

I don't think it will matter who plays over the other. Both guys will get on the field and have opportunites to make plays. I am sure Flacco and the offense is licking their chops to get both guys on the field at the same time.

don't you think that it is a matter of confidence if you start lee after his injury over smith who made such many plays in that time?

I don't think Lee will be active and go straight to WR2. But if Lee can get a couple games under his belt and show that his speed is still there I'd have to believe you'd have Lee as your #2. This isn't taking anything away from Torrey. Who will still see the field a ton.

But Lee at this point in his career can do a bit more and be more reliable (on the field). We all saw his affect in Preseason.

Its not like Torrey would go away. They'd probably see near even snaps on the field. Keeping speedsters fresh is a luxury many teams don't have. You just have to lay it out to Torrey that he is the future of the franchise, we'd like to keep him fresh and he's still going to play a huge part in what we do now and in the playoffs.

you may be right about that. but i think joe and torrey are building a chemistry right now and that is much more important for the future. also as i mentioned above i think it could effect the self confidence of torrey if they would start lee...

If you ask me who I would prefer to run deep. It's probably Torrey. Young legs w/ a burst. But you ask me who I want to run that quick slant route or curl. It would probably be Evans. That's why to me Evans would be the more effective WR2. He can run deep and is more reliable on the shorter routes.

But like I said. Torrey will still be running deep a ton every game even when Evans is back at 100%.

No. Torrey is a rookie and I think he understands that. Like PuRock said, Torrey will still play. It isn't like he is going to practice squad. He will get his chances to make plays.

Lee is an established vet and let's be honest, has better hands.

I think replacing Torrey with Lee as the starter is not a given. We need to see how Evans will perform before that decision is made. He hasn't played, in earnest, since December. Even if he is fully healthy, I doubt that he will be in game shape right out of the gate.

Agreed about having Torrey and Lee on the outside while moving Q in the slot... pretty much unstoppable, especially once you throw Dickson and Pitta in the mix too with Rice coming out of the backfield. I dare you to stop that!

Everything I've ever heard about Evans is that he's a tough cuss and it's killed him to not be out there. If you watch how animated he is on the sidelines and the advice he gives to the young guys, it's clear that he has a hunger to play. They're not going to be able to hold him back if he's ready to go.

Someone else said this before, and it's so true. He was going HARD for a pathetic Buffalo franchise for years--it's clear that his attitude is pretty darn good. And don't forget, with a horrendous offensive line and QB issues up there, he was doing some sick things. We saw some flashes of it in the preseason. I think he's exactly what this offense needs right now to take that next step towards being great.

Remember the separation issues we had vs. the Jaguars? I think those are the things he can help to fix. I've NEVER seen Lee not be able to get separation in his career. Very excited at the possibility of having him back down the stretch with something to prove. Wouldn't at all be surprised to see him against the Seahawks.
