Flacco's Dropped Game Winning Pass

38 posts in this topic

The one that Torrey didn't catch was an incredible play by Flacco. He climbed the pocket with such poise and then ripped an absolute bomb (must have been awesome to see live). I'm so glad that we won, but if we hadn't that play would have been my defense against the Flacco haters. Flacco seems to make a lot of plays that don't add to his stats this season (dropped balls, pass interference calls that are just as good as receptions).

Flacco was dirty on that entire drive. Think we had 3 dropped passes on that drive too didnt we? 2 for sure.

I'm glad it happened the way it did, otherwise there would have been more time on the clock for Pgh. That was an awesome pass though!

Also on replays although Smith still left Ike Taylor in his dust. Taylor was pull on his jersey 10yds down field before he was left behind. Without that extra pulling Torrey would have walked under that ball.

I actually feel like that dropped pass by Boldin was a blessing in disguise. If he would have caught that, we would have had the ball on the 10 yard line. I don't know if anybody else has noticed this, but for some reason we have not been able to complete those passes in the red zone. The field shrinks down and it seems like it's always almost intercepted.

Most of the time, but there was no stopping Flacco that drive.

On positive note, it's good that Torrey dropped the first ball and made the 2nd one cuz if he'd made the first one, Big Ben will have 20s with 2 timeouts which he will drive for FG or TD. We left him with 8s left which pretty much sealed the game.

it was most of the times when those haters talked about flacco that they didn´t see all those dropped passes. flacco puts it right on the money very often and is let down by his receivers a lot of times. glad that someone brought this up!!!

Too be honest, this could have happened last year in the playoffs too. Joe was let down by the WR core, Boldin included ( of course Housh). Joe could have 3 more 4th quarter comebacks on the resume.

This again and again. Who knows what happens if Boldin doesn't drop the ball (last year), Housh doesn't drop the ball (last year), Mason doesn't drop the ball (2008), Hauschka kicks that damn FG or the defense stops ATL?!?!? The guy can ball, sure he has his ups and downs, but what QB not named Rodgers right now doesnt? So damn happy for this team and Flacco/Smith!!!

Yup, I waverd slighlty this season on Joe. I feel sort of bad about that, you guys know I've been a valiant soldier. Though, I have to keep reminding myself, he really is in unchartered waters. The guy has done things that haven't been done by such a young QB. The strong desire as a Ravens fan ( or any fan) that we have ,sometimes clouds our views a bit. It's important to keep things in perspective, Joe is on an upward trend and so is our offense as a whole. Joe is by NO MEANS topped out, he will improve. The way you improve is by learning from your mistakes AND your successes, Joe has had a LOT more triumphs then he has short comings.

I agree. Plus the clock stopped.

I think the Ravens should just try to score from the 20-30 yard line. When they get up by the goal line they sputter out quite a little too frequently.

Yeah. Also, Torrey said he turned, saw Joe getting pressured and slowed down, thinking of doubling back. The next thing he saw was the ball in the air coming to him. He said that if he had stayed in stride the ball would have dropped right in his hands.

Yeah I was really impressed with that throw. He was under duress and didn't even have the room for proper form and he just ripped that ball. It had a higher arc then the second TD throw but it was pretty impressive.

Heard that too. The most encouraging thing is Torrey's attitude. He RECOGNIZES he's learning and you get the feeling that eventually, he's going to make plays that like again and again. Extraordinarily glad we drafted him and couldn't be prouder that a Terp is stepping up in such a big way for the Ravens!

I am going to be honest on this , you can not make this up the story of that last 2 minutes was as if it was written in the heavens to be that way the Drop was like a hollywod script man , the rivals the rookie , who could make this happen in reality I think the Drop was a big almost Key to the Seal of the game. with out those seconds off the clock pitt would have had more time to score I am not mad about the drop infact it Worked out

You got it. Harbs was wrong , the first thing Ravens fans did was not jumping off the couch. A split-second before that , in unison , they all thought to themselves : " This CAN'T be real."

That was the amazing thing about Joe on that drive: He not only won the game for us, but really, he won it TWICE.
[/quote]

On the same token, Ray Rice scored 2 touchdowns on the first drive!

After Torrey Smith dropped that pass I called up my brother and told him we needed to cut Smith from the team. When he made the game-winning catch I told him I had reconsidered.

Not entirely sure about that second one, but the first WAS a bogus holding call. When you think about it, this game had all the makings of a Week One redux.

Yea, if that touchdown would have counted, we would have taken all the air out of that stadium. Defense could have started pinning their ears back and rushing the passer, it would have been Week 1 all over again.
