Next Up: Baltimore Ravens @ Seattle Seahawks

181 posts in this topic

Seattle, from what I've heard, has an effective secondary and an overall decent defense. They will cause some problems for our receivers. As long as we don't turn the ball over, we'll grind out a win even with that. Their special teams tend to be atrocious and their offense is a train wreck. Probably the worst starting QB in the NFL who makes tons of mistakes--maybe 31st now that the Deadskins are starting John Beck. Having Lee Evans back will create all sorts of new issues for them that Jax didn't have to deal with. Also, as good as their D is, it's not Jacksonville. If you gave Jacksonville the same offensive situation that they had last year, they'd be contending for the AFC South this year. Seattle is still a few players away from being good again--and while I have little doubt that they'll get there eventually, it doesn't seem like a stretch to say this isn't the year.

The Jags game had a very good pass rush along with the physical play of the DB's. It worked because they had both. With Grubbs back, I really doubt someone has another jags type game the rest of the season. I just don't see it.

We have something called a Diesel package with two tight ends and with the potential of Lee Evans coming back this week, I think the Seahawks should be more concerned about us than we are about them.

Ray Rice in the flat should be giving secondaries nightmares also.

I expect a big day out of the offense. We seem to be on a nice roll right now.

That is how I see us potentially dominating the Seahawks. They have big guys that can stuff the run. But their pass rush isn't very scary, they have to bring extra guys. Our O-Line should be able to hold up and we need to line up a lot of weapons. They won't be able to defend them all while bringing additional guys.

I am getting excited thinking about it. :)

Yeah, this has let-down written all over it. Our D will be up to the challenge early, but the question is if our O will be able to get over the post-big-win slump. I believe that they can.

I hope so too. Seattle has something in common with the Titans and Jags, the 2 teams that we lost to this year. They run a 4-3 defense.

I'm not trying to be mean, but I've never heard of those guys... guys that big probably can't keep up with someone like Torrey Smith though.

They aren't household names, Brandon Browner has been playing in the CFL the last 4 years, 3 time All-CFL, and at 6'4'' and 220, he will be the biggest most physical corner you've faced all year. That isn't an exaggeration. He's good for a penalty or 2 every game, but he physically beats up wide receivers the entire game. Carroll knew about him because he tried to recruit him to USC, but lost him to Oregon State. This year, they invited him to a tryout and he ran a 4.5 40, so they signed him and threw him into the pile at corner to see if he could make the team during training camp. He ended up starting.

For example his suplex of Jerome Simpson, we all enjoyed this one:

And 94 yard INT return, he can be dangerous too:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=pGNbekuclIA

Now rookie Richard Sherman from Stanford was pressed into service because of injuries, he's 6'3'' 195, and he's done really well, better than anyone expected in replacing Marcus Trufant and Walter Thurmond.

If you're noticing a trend with the team Pete Carroll is putting together? Size, physical play, toughness, it's something the Seahawks have not been known for, we've always been a finesse, speed, technique type team. Not so anymore.

I really think our O has found something between the 2nd half of the Cardinals game through the Steelers game. Cam was dialing up everything we wanted in his gameplan with slant routes to Boldin, the whole 9. Those two losses we took early on including the 1st half of the Cards games was blessing, truely, truely blessings. With Evans returning, I can see things only getting better. I feel for the Seahawks this up and coming Sunday b/c I feel its going to be a massacare. With facing all these 4-3 Tampa 2 teams in the Jags,Titans,Seahawks,etc..... , I feel we will be a lot more better prepared for the Bengals than we have been in recent years. The wildcard we have now that we didn't have before is Torrey Smith. He has gotten behind every CB he has faced ( talking bout you too Revis ) and that's a tremendous asset for our offense b/c you have to respect, you just have too. If Lee Evans get back up to par quickly, I'm excited at what our O can be capable of with how Cam has been gameplanning the last 6 quarters.

The Seahawks are middle of the league in both passing and running defense, 22nd in PPG against, 18th in YPG against, 18th in passing YPG against, 13th in rushing YPG against (of course that could be because teams are too busy passing on them to bother running). A balanced offensive attack will get the job done. And if the offense shows up, our defense should dominate this game.

Their defense looks average in PPG but you have to consider that they have no offense either, their run defense is 2nd equal in league for yards per carry allowed.

This maybe another Trap game but this time we won't fall for it. No let down, Ravens continue to roll, Bengals beat the Steelers and life is good :)

Ravens 34
Seahawks 10
