Lol call me crazy but i was always a Mark Clayton fan, when he was hot he was hot, and when he got traded to the Rams (my 2nd team) he played really good.
Yeah, I've always liked Mark Clayton too. It would have been Clayton all over again if Torrey hadn't caught that TD. But he caught it so.. GO TORREY!

I liked Clayton a lot. We should have stuck him in the slot when he couldn't do it on the outside. He was best suited for slot play in Cams offense.

Torrey has been having a great rookie season for a WR. He has 20 rec for 397 yards and 4 TDs for a 19.8 YPC avg. He's on track for having an 800 yd season and 8 TDs. His play keeps getting better, so I wouldn't even be surprised to see 1000 yds. Obviously, thats unlikely. but with a couple big games, its certainly possible, and with the cake schedule the rest of the way, who knows? Still, despite what he could do, he's already far surpassed what people expected for the entire season. Certainly not a bust.

A players impact is not best determined by looking into his own stats, but also the stats of those around him. Just look at Boldin! Boldin currently has 41 rec for 621 yards and 2 TDs for a 15.3 YPC avg. He already has 74.9% of his yardage from last year (837) and 64% of his receptions from last year (64). He's already doing a ton better than last year. Boldin is on track for nearly 1300 yards. His TDs are down, but that can be attributed to an increase of TDs to other players around him and an improved run game.

Dickson has had 30 for 277 and 1 TD for a 9.1 YPC avg. Pitta has 21 for 195 and a 9.3 YPC avg. Our TE's leave something to be desired, but overall our offense is doing better than I thought, and alot of that can be attributed to Torrey Smith overachieving. Way to go kid!

WHAT?!?!

Dude, get out of your little analytical tunnel and realize that when you combine those numbers our TEs have 51 catches for 472 yds!!! I'll take that from Todd Heap any day at the midpoint of the season! They are ballin' baby! And they're just getting started!

Aside from the occasional drop here and there from Dickson, I agree 100%. Love what these two are becoming!!!

Okay, misworded it. My mistake. I forgot to include Heap's stats from last year. Heap's stats were higher than both of their's combined. No doubt that they are "balling" but they have not quite reached Heap's level.

At this time (8 games in) Heap had 26 receptions, for 341 yards and 3 TD's.  I'll take Dickson/Pitta all day

Well dang.. I was wrong about that. My bad fellas! Coulda sworn I saw something different on the stats site but ah well.

Point is, Torrey is killin it. Once Dickson gets some hands, our TEs will be rediculous.

How ironic. By far, the biggest knock on Smith is his very inconsistent hands.

While true, his hands have made more plays than Dickson.

Torrey will only get better, usually rookie WRs dont make much noise in their rookie years....Torrey Smith has already done more than I thought he would this year

He has far surpassed what I expected. If he continues on this current pace, he will have surpassed many people's predictions.

If he continues on this pace he'll have surpassed the best season by a drafted Ravens WR ever wont he?

I'm pretty sure. He's on track for 792 yards and 8 TDs if he keeps up the pace.

When Torrey stops underestimating Flacco's arm and finishes on those deep patterns he's gonna look like our form of Desean Jackson lol. I'm really happy with this kid.

Man, I don't know what to say about Torrey. When we drafted him, I was totally against it because the big knocks on him were hands and the opposite of crisp route running. Cobbs was there, Hankerson was there, and I just didn't like it.

I fully say now, I was wrong. Consider my crow devoured with gusto. I fully admit that in a VERY short time, Mr. Smith has made a believer out of me. Even after the Rams game, I still wasn't completely sold. After his (Hell and LaQuan's) performance, I really believe we have finally overcome the 'bad WR curse' we have seem to have for quote awhile.

Torrey's work ethic, how much he cares (this rookie, this kid, was crying on the sidelines after his drop in the endzone!) and his steel willed determination..man is he gonna be something special.

Torrey Smith: he's young, he's fast....he's done what he's needed to do for the Ravens to win. They are 6-2 and in first place, and you can bet playing in Pittsburgh as a rookie was nerve-wracking. And you can bet winning in Pittsburgh and sweeping the Steelers was a thrill such that most of us will never truly feel!

Torrey Smith: he's good and has every sign of being great. Relax, Bal'mer nation!

@rlh445

I didn't pay much attention to the pre-draft chatter about Torrey , I just wanted to see him in a Ravens uniform. I honestly thought he'd go higher and we wouldn't get a shot at him. I was stoked when we did.

As a Maryland alum I watched him on TV quite a bit and started thinking about him as a Raven last year after seeing the way he and Danny O'Brien hooked up. He brought a level of excitement to the passing game that I seldom witnessed watching the Ravens. The times he dropped catchable balls had no impact on me , I guess because I thought the good far outweighed the bad.

On balance , I feel that same way now. If you told me before the season started that he was going to drop the number of balls he has , while giving us the level of production and exciting play he's provided so far , I'd have said "Good deal , I'll take it".

Your last line sums up the intangibles that define him as the type of person you want on your team. For me , the clincher is that he also loves to fish. That's my kinda guy !

My opinion?

He is a super talented rookie WR who is so self critical he sometimes over thinks what he should just let come naturally. As time goes on he will relax and be a superstar.

Also remember, Boldin and Williams dropped some as well. I think Flacco can throw with such power it sometimes surprises receivers.

Of course that is only my humble opinion.

GO RAVENS!

He's doing exactly what we wanted, getting open a lot. Now teams have to respect him, which opens up everything else. Boldin and our tight ends will reap the benefits.

I love that, going into games, teams have to think about which receiver they want to put their top corner on. For years it was a no-brainer for Derrick Mason. Then it was obvious you wanted to cover Q, because he was a younger, faster, stronger Mason. This season they have to decide between the sticky-handed (usually, though maybe not so much last week) and powerful Boldin, or the speedy Torrey Smith. If they put their second guy against him, like the Steelers did with Gay, he will get burned. If they put him their number one of Smith, Bolding will make them pay for it.

Honestly, I think that the emergence of Torrey Smith definitely deserves a lot of credit in Boldin's numbers suddenly picking back up. They can't just put their number one on Boldin and shade a safety his way for good measure. That and Joe's trust in him seems up, especially when he was talking after the Cardinals game about going to Q so much to spark the comeback.

Can't wait till Lee Evans comes back because then we will just be ridiculous on offense. Keep him out until he's 110% and is back to full speed. Evans and smith on the outside with Boldin in the slot. CRAZY.

It's a little sad how a rookie with stone hands is looking like the best WR we ever drafted.
While I do agree to an extent, he is on pace for 800 yards and 8 TDs. Now, "on pace for..." generally means squat, but this is still a very respectable projected stat line for a rookie who has dropped 5-6 balls and could easily have an additional 150 yards and another TD or two. BUT, oh how quickly do some forget Claytons sophomore year numbers....

I'm impressed with his separation on almost every route. With DB's having to respect his speed he can usually get whatever leverage he wants on a route. I just hope Anquan can bring Torrey down to Arizona this offseason so Smith and Fitzgerald can work out together.

No knock on Boldin's hands but Fitzgerald has some of the best hands in the NFL bar none, especially on the deep ball.

I knew when we drafted him, I didn't expect him to see the field this season with our receiving corp. I also thought he would be buried on the depth chart after a horrendous preseason.

However looking at how this kid is blowing the lid off of defenses like a tea kettle in a volcano. I can only think they were trying to make Torrey work on his route running more while it didn't count in our W-L columns.

I'm loving seeing him team up with Joe for a real deep threat here in Baltimore. Evans getting here was a preview of it. Torrey is the attraction right now. When Lee gets back, good night defenses.

for some reason i see smith as more than just a deep threat..as the season moves along he has gotten better at route running and he jus has to get better at concentration.he is gonna be a all around receiver at 1 point

I wanted torrey smith after watching him at umd (nc state game specifically)..i was annoyed by how our recievers last year were all possession recievers and we didn't have that deep threat to stretch the field..a lot of people here knocked on his hands and that is definitely an area he needs to work at but I knew that with his speed and joes cannon..Torrey would bring a dynamic to this offense that has been missing here for ever.

I'm glad Torrey has work ethic because he's going to keep getting better and making his timing with flacco perfect

Torrey's a beast and is on pace to get 8 TDs & 900+ yds recieving. I know the 900+ yds makes me sound like a complete Homer but i honestly could see him doing it. Especially since he shouldn't have anymore of those stinker games ( steelers Wk 1./ Titans Wk 2./Jets Wk 4.)
